Free Music Notes for All Hope Is GoneFree Music Review: This is very different, but I like it a lot. Hit: 5 Stars
I am not going to compare this album with everything else Slipknot has done. Everyone else is doing that anyway. What is the point, really, of comparing album to album? Do you want to hear the same thing over and over again? Personally I like to hear some variance and a wide range of structure on a record. If you are open to that, then you will like All Hope is Gone.
The album starts out really heavy, like you would expect from Slipknot. And it ends the same way. In the middle there is just about everything you could think of. Even the ballad "Snuff" is a refreshing change for the band. I did not expect to hear anything like this on a Slipknot record, but it is really, really good. I find myself listening to that song over and over.
Lyrically I think the album is great. The flow of the album is a little strange and takes some getting used to. Fast, slow, fast, medium, slow, etc. The recording is very clean and the production is different than past records. As someone mentioned above it is difficult to tell that there are 9 members on this recording. I can rarely distinguish any drums other than Joey's. Chris and Shawn were not really busy with their past amount of activity.
All in all this is a great album. I am still getting used to it and I am shocked and suprised by the variety of music on one disc. I can tell you this, it is not what you expect. And in some cases that can be a good thing. I think this is a refreshing album and I am enjoying listening to it. Quit trying to compare what the band did 15 years ago to now and just appreciate what you have right in front of you........the latest masterpiece.
Free Music Review: Slipknot, Good, great or not the same... Hit: 5 Stars
This band has gone through so much and always keeping in mind their fan base, as that for themselves is the key for more than 10 years with the original 9 guys that on stage put themselves in many dangers and passion for the music they make. This album is good, anyone who knows the Slipknot concept, keep this in mind, their writing style and projection towards society and the world we live in is realist and critical, so in terms of concept and lyrical work, this album is one of their strongest/mature. As for the sound I'd say in my total opinion and with total respect for the work they have done here, is not their unique sound like Iowa, but every Slipknot album sounds different... At first I didn't seem so eager to like the whole pack of songs, then I gave it a couple listens and realized, 9 guys, musicians, many years in the making of a comeback, there has to be something here, YES!! deep in each song is a meaning and powerful message of viewing things as they are... This album for me gets better with each listen. So if you have doubt on this one, remember my last thought... They got together for the love of art and music, and yes I know they'll get back on top with this one... This is one of the few bands that stay true to their essence in music and their options for fans and their urge for more...
truly one great album, I'll get back to listening the whole thing, won't leave my cd players in quite a while!!!!!!
Free Music Review: This album is totally the AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
NOT! In fact this album is horribly disappointing... I just wanted to get your attention.
For a long time I was a hater and when Subliminal Verses came out, Duality.. that was sweet. I went back got the old albums. Honestly, I can say I was wrong about them to a point... however, I still find the entirety of any of their albums too chaotic to traverse. Not because their BRUTAL!!!11...OMFG??? Yeah, they're messy, sloppy, disjointed... not the musicianship, but the progression.. in song and from song to song.
And the problem persists, just worse. Waiting for this I heard Psychosocial, meh. Then I heard All Hope Is Gone, mmm.. Iowalicious. I was getting excited. Then I borrow it from my friend.... ZZZZZZZZ.....hmmmm...sorry... it.just..feels..so..*yawn*... long..Seriously, I was just wondering when it would be over; Gehenna was sweet but it's all down hill from there till the end when the poor ugly deformed bird makes one last attempt at flight and a brave effort it was indeed, metal in fact, incredibly so, but his past failings have cost him dearly and his boggled song progression, track arrangement, false promises, empty words (Dead Memories in my heart..GO F**K YOURSELF COREY!), and direction-less effort have doomed this ugly excretal creature to a plummeting death and... huh.. it's just easier to call it stupid.. seriously Corey, go f*-*k yerrrsel-ff.
Free Music Review: Even an "old school" metal fans digs it Hit: 5 Stars
I was a child of the 80s and loved Metallica, Megadeath, and even some "hair rock." I thought there was no good metal these days. After my friend pointed me to All Hope Is Gone, I realized I was wrong.
First off all, these gentlemen have skills. They're tight. Great vocals, amazing percussion, quality guitar work. Secondly, they are immensely creative and different. Thirdly, they're perfectly heavy for me. Parts are extremely hard ("Psychosocial"), but not too hard to give you a headache. I need some kind of rhythm to my metal, and if it's flat out speed metal with no variation, I don't enjoy it much. The way the switch tempo actually works, breaking up the song quite well and making it more "catchy" (I use that as a compliment). "Sulfur" is the best tune on the album, but "Vendetta," "Psychosocial," and "Dead Memories" are all excellent tracks.
I've since went back and purchased the earlier Slipknot efforts. Although they're still good, some is a bit raw and some sounds too much like Korn. All Hope Is Gone is clearly their best album. They've matured and grown in good ways. I used to see kids with Slipknot T-shirts and I didn't think these guys would be this good. I stand corrected and I'd recommend this album to any metal fan.
Free Music Review: What is wrong... Hit: 5 Stars
with a band trying to become more popular? Slipknot began as a band on the edge. That is how most good bands start. Then every band that is actually artistic begins to change and evolve. To me, that is a good thing (Metallica anyone?). Unfortunately, anyone who likes that band's first album is destined to hate it's latest. That is what is happening here. Some people cannot grow. Those are the people that hate the new Slipknot album. Personally I think it is a great, I mean GREAT, album! I love thier progression...I like this one as much or more that I liked Verses, just like I loved Verses more than Iowa (OK, I didn't much care for Mate Feed Kill Repeat). So, back to the future. What is wrong with being able to understand the lyrics. Corey is a fantastic lyricist and singer. I WANT to be able to understand what he is singing about and trying to say through his music. Just like Iowa was great for it's balls out thrash, Verses came right back with great melody and musicianship. I think that they are just carrying that through with All Hope is Gone. Again, GREAT album!
