Free Music Notes for All Hope Is GoneFree Music Review: Reluctant To Buy It, Glad I Did! Their Best Ever! Hit: 5 Stars
This is a fine release from Slipknot. The songs/musicianship have improved. The songs are creative and show growth from the band as a whole. The songs surprise you with plenty of awesome, heavy, distortion-drenched hooks.
This CD kicks all over and totally wastes Disturbed and Mudvayne's latest disappointing releases that sound the same as all their other stuff, at least in my view.
Although they are somewhat considered mainstream metal, this album proves that they are not sell-outs and have kept their hard edge in check. The production, although a bit polished, absolutely rocks your car stereo. It's been getting me pumped up for work for the past few weeks! The lyrics are a nice mix of rough and clean. Corey shows he can growl, but also "sing" (Dead Memories). There are some cool harmonies (Psychosocial).
Overall, the louder it is, the better it sounds! I am a late 30-yr-old lover of heavy music and I have heard lots of it, from Ride The Lightning to All Hope Is Gone. I must say that I totally dig this CD! Blast it in your car stereo and head bang!
Free Music Review: Hmmm... Hit: 5 Stars
Alright so people aren't happy with a new Slipknot sound. Let's be real, who wants a band to play the same stuff they did on the last album? Nothing is going to live up to MFKR or the self titled because at the time they were just amazing for hard rock then. It's time to do something different and evolve as a band which is what they did on Subliminal Verses and the same on here. We know these band memebers from other projects now (Stone Sour, Murderdolls) and those influences are going to come into play here as well. I think overall this is a great album and is still hard and loud and fast as well as showing a softer side of Slipknot. I'm glad that they can show they can be musical and play instead of just noise and screaming. Corey singing through hooks is something new that we just saw on the last album. I love Slipknot, I have been a huge fan since MKFR and I will continue to remain a fan of this band no matter what they put out. If you can't respect a band changing their sound and doing something different, you shouldn't listen to music anymore.
Free Music Review: ..finally a METAL album..... Hit: 5 Stars
Ok, im going to get killed for saying this. Im sure the "maggots" will think this is blasphemy, but here I go. Slipknot, from day one, have been a nu-metal band. Yes I know, this comes as a surprise to those of you that havent actually heard a black, death, or thrash metal band before. Ths samples, the lack of guitar solos, the rap type vocals.....equal nu-metal. This album, however, has caught me off guard. I heard Pshychosocial and was Impressed. I heard great riffs, gasp...an acutal guitar solo, and even a Hatebreed type breakdown towards the end of the song. Yes kids, this isnt the usual screaming, random samples, and chugga chugga nu-metal riffs that you have grown to expect from this band. They really made a diverse "metal" album this time. I think these guys have really grown as musicians, and it has finally started to show. If you think im off point, go listen to Nile, Behemoth, Emperor, Kreator..Those are "metal" bands kids..talented bands. Slipknot has now joined their ranks.....
Free Music Review: Best Album By Slipknot, Only Snobs Say Otherwise Hit: 5 Stars
This is by far their best effort to date. Being a long time fan since '99, this album pleases on many levels generally because of the album's lack of filler, the one aspect that generally plagues every other album by them.
Iowa and Vol.3 have more than their share of jams but they have a ton of filler and half baked ideas/songs that werent fully fleshed out... this album is solid and comprehensive from top to bottom. There is no need to skip songs or make your own custom disc of this. Press play and forget about it.
Also this is by far the most serious, professional release theyve done. They've finally put everything together on this disc. Its heavy and riff crazy without being over the top for the sake of being over the top.
Its also the strongest album in their catalog lyrically.
Only the Hot Topic portion of their fanbase would dislike this album.
Stay (sic)
Free Music Review: Gut Wrenching Intensity Hit: 5 Stars
A lot of people really hate on Slipknot because of their supposed lack of music ability but I do believe that they really pushed themselves on this album. Over all it has a great intensive lead in with the percussionists of the band. Not to mention there are even different solos in some of the songs (not that I am saying they never did) they just seemed to be much more apparent. Only two tracks I don't really enjoy that much but over all end to it it's a great album to listen to. I personally feel that this album is a great successor off of Subliminal Versus and stands alone as a great piece of work. My only regret about this is not seeing them live when they were in town a few weeks ago. If you enjoy this genre of music definantly pick it up we have had some great albums come out this summer and I would put this on the list of great albums to have come out this entire year. Check this album out!
