Free Music Notes for SlipknotFree Music Review: Dont let hype ruin this for you... Hit: 5 Stars
...cause it almost ruined it for me. I knew about this band a long time ago and I got this the day it was released because I had never heard a band before with so many members and I was curious as to how it would turn out. I was impressed, but I didn't give it too much thought at the time, because so many other cd's were coming out at the time, and I kind of put it away. Months later, I started hearing about these guys non-stop. They were on every magazine cover, and people were just talking about these nine guys in masks who play this super violent music and are just incredible. I didn't remember this much about them when I first heard the cd, so I just quit caring about them. Then, I was like, you know what, I've got this cd, let me see if what these people are talking about is true. Sure enough, the hype didn't come from nowhere. It really is excellent, I see these guys as sort of a Slayer for the new millenium. The music is just non stop intensity from the start, and having so many different members can help because they were able to add several extra layers of sound to the music to give it a much more rounded out attack. This is one of the better cd's Ross Robinson has done, as he was able to bring much more out of these guys than he has with anyone else, excluding Korn and Amen. He did an excellent job making sure all of the instruments are heard and that the band didn't hold back at all. I haven't seen them live, but if the live performances are better than this, than I will have to check them out very soon. I have only two complaints about this cd: 1. They didnt take full advantage of having three drummers. I think the percussion could have been used WAY more. It would have sounded a lot cooler. 2. The intensity sort of dies down after the first seven tracks, and though there are some cool tracks after that (especially "Liberate"), it just doesn't have the same impact that the first half of the cd did. Hopefully they will fix that next time. Otherwise, highly recommended.
Free Music Review: Masked men bring the sickness Hit: 5 Stars
'You can't stop the pain...' begins opening song '(sic)' which pretty much sums up Slipknot the aural equilivent of your worst nightmares set to music. The surprise success of the self-titled debut album could be thanks to the so-called non-image of the band members but if it were not for the intense and frankly brilliant music to back up the hype Slipknot would even get this far. 'Surfacing' and 'Eyeless' are the best examples of post-Millennium tension from the American metal scene at the moment that not even the up-coming System Of A Down can compete. Forget the masks and hysteria because like Marilyn Manson there is substance as well as style. 'Wait and Bleed' is the first single, which was a wise choice as it is the most accessible moment on the album, all guitars and catchy hooks. However the most complete and terrify musical moment on the disc has to be the closing track 'Scissors', an eight minute plus frightening collision of fear and loathing. The closing pain of the song feels very similar to that of Korn's 'Daddy' from their debut release back in 1994.The influences are evident on Slipknot that lessens the "classic" status of the album as the artists Korn, Sepultura and White Zombie are clear reference points. Also, will the album be revered in the same way in five years to come? Only time will tell, as the best and most memorable songs on the album are the first five tracks. It will be difficult to predict how Slipknot will develop as a band as the members cannot hide behind their masks all the time and the novelty will eventually wear off. Look at what happened to Kiss in the early 1980s! From the evidence shown on the debut release, the musicians are good enough to survive the downfall other hype bands face. This record is best heard cranked up and loud, designed for furious mosh-pit action. Let the sickness begin.

The first album of the new slipknot, well back at the time at least, I find it to be Slipknot's best, I bought it a few weeks ago and here's my review
1. 742617000027- The intro to the album and (sic), I know people probably skip it, but I always listen to it before listening to (sic) 3/5

Free Music Review: Whoa, WHoa, WHoa!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Wow, Riv i have respect for you, but you have made the biggest music listener's mistake. You have labeled this band, and under what 'Death Metal'. First off, i hate all labels, im conservative, but i truly believe everyone can do without them. This music is a fusion of the past and present, you have the ranting and raving attitude as seen in the albums listed by Riv and you have the new generation of (God forgive me for labeling) 'Nu-Metal'. Seriously, if you dont like it, dont listen. Corey's vocals are pretty amazing, as you can see his transition from this album to Vol. 3. The album was extremely amazing and uplifting, made you want to fight. The drumming was amazing and by far one of the greatest. It's just so hypnotic. Riv, man, you gotta give the new generation a chance. (Sorry again) 'Death Metal' is pretty good, and i own a lot of albumsin the genre, but personally, most of the time i have no idea what the singer is saying. Take Behemoth or Cradle of Filth for example, both amazing instrumentally, but lacking in pronounciation. When i listen to death metal, i listen for music and if i could, i would abandon their vocals. With this new generation and bands like slipknot, you get both intense instruments and understandable lyrics. Forgive the labeling, because music should not be about it, it's about free expression. and i personally feel that if you dont like it put it down, because if you jump into something that you know you wont like, you are just punishing yourself. All music is great, JUST GIVE IT A CHANCE. Music needs to be solely emotive, if not then it is not music. Just listen, and make your own chose. But the cd was intense and worth every cent.
