Free Music Notes for SlipknotFree Music Review: Slipknot (Self - Titled) Hit: 5 Stars
The 'Knot's first studio recorded album, and the follow-up to their independant release, "Feed.Mate.Kill.Repeat.", Slipknot have re-defined 'nu-metal'. Corey Taylor's deep throat roars accompanied by Joey Jordisons' furious double-kick pounding on this record leave you breathless every time. As is synonomous with every 'Knot record, the album starts with an intro, an insight into the world of Slipknot's nine members, followed by the opening track, (SIC). Corey's thrusts' himself into your head with an explicit lyrical assault in a song littered with samples, percussion, Jordisons' signature double-kick, heart-stopping bass and grinding distorted guitar...everything you would require from today's nu-metal creators. My personal favourites on this record are 'Spit It Out', 'Surfacing' and 'Liberate', as well as the industry smash single, 'Wait & Bleed'. For those familiar with Slipknot, you will know this album leaves little to the imagination, with its continious torrent of lyrical abuse - however, without the imagery portrayed by Taylor, this album would not be what it is - priceless, the landmark of a new genre. It is difficult to listen to, but is worth purchasing...the album carries itself well throughout, yet slows down a tad (which is well needed)with the track, 'Diluted'. For those familiar with this album, I recommend "Iowa", Slipknot's follow-up album, "Disasterpieces" (The 'Knot live in England)on DVD and albums' by bands' produced by Clown (Chris), 'American Head Charge - The War Of Art', 'L.D.50 - Mudvayne' and Joey Jordisons' side project, 'In The Valley Of The Murder Dolls - The MurderDolls'.
Free Music Review: Not for everybody Hit: 5 Stars
Not a single song on the face of the planet can claim that it is enjoyed by every soul on the planet. These reviewers who have nothing better to do than bad mouth a band or album because it doesn't suit their taste are waisting the time of the people fooled into reading the reviews, and the time of Amazon.com. Now, SLIPKNOT is an interesting band. I can best describe them as a cross between the speed of punk bands such as OFFSPRING, but with the force and energy of a hardcore metal band like PANTERA or even KORN's harder songs. It is not for the meek. Every song is dominated by fast guitar rifts and highly flucuated vocals. The band has three drummers and a little keyboard work to throw into the mix. At times the music seems over-bearing. However, when you take the time to actually listen to the songs and let their energy flow through your body, you learn to appreciate this intensity. In relation to other bands, it really blows a lot of music clear out of the water. From the opening track SIC to SCISSORS, the album's energy and speed never faulter. SLIPKNOT sounds the best, when they break down into singing rather than screaming. I prefer the screaming personaly, but I have to admit that when the more traditional singing starts, the band really starts to rock. I expect their next album to contain more songs such as Wait and Bleed since that seems to be their most popular song from this album. So, in conclusion, If you are a fan of pure unadultarated violence and ragful music, this is right up your ally. If not, then maybe you would prefer something more docile like STAIND.

What do you get when you have an expiramental/fusion metal group who get a hold of KoRn's simplistic style and fuse it to their own? A 9 member metal band named Slipknot. KoRn may have started Nu-Metal, but Slipknot established and legitimized the genre and gave a blue print to the future Nu-Metal bands (ala MuDvAyNe, Mushroomhead)who would evolve this sound to it's extreme limits. No Nu-Metal is known for its' simple guitar parts, groovy bass lines, and normally simple drumming, but Slipknot took a little bit more influence from metal instead of rap, and played a double bass drum. They also utilized the hardcore screams of frontman #8 Corey, and showed their Slayer influence by using mostly screaming throughout the entire album. Born of the near-desolation of Iowa, Slipknot burst forth from the heartland in 1999 with some of the most awe-inspiring, cathartic rock the world had ever heard. Vetting their collective psyche not only through their songs, but also through their masks, their uniforms, their live shows, and even their fans and the culture they inhabit, Slipknot hold nothing back. The depth of their expression is matched by that of their musical prowess- this tornado is laser-guided, and fellow musicians, critics and the fans know that Slipknot is deadly serious about it's art. Many "metal elitists" will hate this, but for more opened minded metal heads who listen to every genre of metal, you might want to check this band out. Not the best, not the heaviest, not the most brutal, and not the most talented band on earth, but you can see the emotion they put into it. An overall great listen.
Free Music Review: My all time fave cd Hit: 5 Stars
This is the cd that started it all for my descent into the world of death metal. First, this is not death metal. Slipknot fits their own genre in my mind, a hybrid of hardcore, thrash/death influences, some nu-metal, and some hip hop. However, it is VERY aggressive, and is quite possibly the most pissed-off recording I have heard in a long time. The total outflowing of anger can be felt on each and every song, as is pain and anguish and the crushing anxiety of living in misery. Thats not to say this is depressing; in fact, it is quite cathartic. With each playing I put this through, I feel a release from all forms of anger and pressure built up during my life. Back to the CD itself. The band is a nine piece set, composed of 2 guitarists, a drummer, 2 percussionists, a sampler, a DJ, a bassist, and of course, a singer. The music is driven by the immense range of Corey Taylor, quite possibly THE best new singer in the rock world today. He switches from an angry scream to a melodic voice that is very haunting. The pummeling drums from Joey are also very good; check out those bass pedals on Surfacing. The guitars are not really technical, but they are aggressive and creative throughout. What stands out most are the samples, scratches and eerie percussion throughout, creating some weird sounds that scare you the first time( listen to Tattered and Torn and Surfacing). Standout tracks: Sic, Eyeless, Surfacing, Spit it Out, Purity, and Scissors. If you like this, I reccomend Slayer, Mudvayne, Sepultura, Soulfly and some of the death/grindcore scene. I reccomend you buy this cd, it has changed my life.
Free Music Review: Let's get a few things straight... Hit: 5 Stars
First off, no, Slipknot is not metal. They are Nu-Metal (Hard Rock with metal influences). Why? Because they play music with a standard rock song structure (basic three-chord riffs and such, as opposed to actual metal, which is much more complex in song structure.)
Second, they DID NOT copy Mushroomhead -_-;;; Both of these bands get along quite well, in fact. The whole "feud" idea came from the fans and the fans only, both sides of which thought the one band was copying the other. In fact, neither of these bands are, and there was even a band before them that wore masks and jumpsuits. So please, before you criticize a band and say they suck, learn a little about them first.
As far as this album goes, its very awesome. I used to not be interested in them much and thought they were rather weird. But I went online and downloaded a song, by name "Wait and Bleed" and thought, "I gotta give this band a try." So I went out and bought the s/t album, and from the start I knew I was getting into something wild that I could really enjoy listening to. This album rocks and rocks hard, fast, and heavy. Anybody new to Slipknot should definitely give this piece a listen.
I won't go into details about the songs, cause most of the reviews I've read have already done so ;)
Oh, by the way, if you don't like this band, keep it to yourself. Nobody cares whether or not you like them, especially not the band. Listen to "Spit It Out" and pretend Corey is talking to you :/ (That is, if you even know what that song means)
Rock on, Slipknot \m/
