... Slipknot is ... insane guys rocking out. This album is one of the greatest rock albums ever. It fuses together elements of metal, rock, hip hop, and more to form a perfect album. 1) 7426100027- A freaky intro that welcomes you into the broken and sick world of Slipknot. 2) (sic)- A ferocious rock song ... ....A classic.3) Eyeless- A song about Corey's father. It's very insane and hard. One of the best songs on the album. 4) Wait and Bleed- The single. Contains nice melody. Very well written. 5) Surfacing- The new nation anthem! Listen to the chorus!!!!! 6) Spit It Out- A very much hip-hop influenced song that goes 100mph. 7) Tattered and Torn- A slower yet hard ...and disturbing song. 8) Frail Limb Nursery- (not on the cd in stores, cds with this intro were pulled early in the albums life) Very twisted and freaky intro with a girl talking and crying. 9) Purity- (not on cd either) This song is about a girl named Purity Knight who was trapped in a box underground and tortured worse than you could imagine. Free Music Review: WOW! Hit: 5 Stars
Could I possibly be listening to the next wave of heavy metal? Just possibly. What you're listening to here could just be a ouija obsessed nine piece orchestra of hell or they could be the next band to redefine the genre. Sure, it may have alot to do with image. But these guys aren't just a rap-cum-metal take on what Gwar has been doing for years. And this recording may not guarantee them their episode of Behind the Music on VH-1 in twenty years, but they're bound to grow to cult status sooner or later. Two percussionists, one drummer. Two guitarists. A pig bassist that's obviously spent too much time locked up in the barn. Eyeless, definitely one of the best tracks on the record. The lyrics stand above the average dollar bill bin of heavy metal lyrics with such abstract chants as "You can't see California without Marlon Brando's eyes!". Adding a turntable to the collection of sounds doesn't hurt either. I recommend you buy this album, RIGHT NOW, no matter where you're at. Go...Obey...Also, if you enjoy this band and looking for other bands like them, good luck. You're not likely to find another band like this anytime soon. Just don't even bother comparing them to Korn. Far more disturbing subject matter than Korn. Just buy this album and get over it before you move on to others, okay? But if you simply must have an intelligent band like this one doing some very strange and deep music, just try Tool. Thank you for your time.
Free Music Review: Vinnie Hit: 5 Stars
I held off buying this album for the LONGEST time because in every single review I read, I saw Limp Bizkit, Korn, Machine Head, so on and so on.... These bands have no place in the same THOUGHT as Slipknot. I am a huge death metal fan. I'm not saying this in a way that's says, "My music's so much harder than Korn (et all)." I'm simply saying this so that people who like heavier music will realize that they might enjoy this as well. I know that that some death metal fans will say that I'm a sell-out, but I'm 26, and have been listening to this style for 15 years! What finally convinced me was an interview when Slipknot members said that they try to convince their more commercial fans to listen to Death, Malevolent Creation, and Suffocation (brutal). They also said that the next album will have "more blast beats and more grinding riffs...we're also going to incorporate more death metal and black metal elements." I can't wait! These guys took me totally off guard! I don't love the samples/scratching (which is minimal), but the ferocity of 90% of the material makes me look past all of this. To the fans who say Slipknot's popularity is "...because you're wearing you're masks that you're getting money and publicty." You need to either focus on the Latin explosion, or get hard! Also, to the soft gentleman who said that Slipknot "screams" too much. Please, I have a Backstreet Boys cd for you.
Free Music Review: Good album Hit: 5 Stars
This album has been around for a while, but it still seems to be generating a lot of fiery opinions. Mostly, strongly negative ones and the backlash from them. Anyway, here are my two cents.
This album has a very raw, aggressive feel to it. It sort of sounds like a bunch of angry people getting together and just beating the hell out of a bunch of instruments. The music is not very technical, although it is quite catchy. This is the sort of album that makes for good punching-holes-in-the-drywall (make sure to check for studs first) music. The guitars are less prominent than in Iowa, and this CD is much more aggressive and simple than Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses. Overall, this is not a good album if you insist on extreme technicality, but it is good for releasing pent-up aggression and just having a blast banging your head. I happen to enjoy this album a lot.
By the way, some of you people need to calm down. I like death metal, black metal, grindcore, thrash metal, etc. just as much as the next person. As long as somebody is screaming/growling/shrieking at me, I'm good. It isn't fair to judge a band by comparing them to another. Take the music for what it is. Whether you like it or don't, just calmly tell us why. I hope I have been of some help.
