Free Music Notes for Trinity: Past Present & Future

Free Music Review: Good thing someone is making real hip hop out there
Hit: 5 Stars

In a world full of fake thugs and even faker MC's, and the RIAA blaming it's slowing cd sales on the pirates of silicon valley, as opposed to the decrepid state of dullness, homogeny, and talentless that is music today, arises a star. Smooth sounds, unsurpassed production and transaction, lyrical expertise are by far the norm on this cd, and as my first encounter with the Village of Slums I would wager this must be the norm for Slum Village en masse.

Let me get my one found flaw out, before, I begin the cheerleading, these guys are lyrical experts, better, then the jokes that are the likes of commercial conundrums such as Nelly, ... however it would be scary to see what the lyrical giants of future, past, and present could contrive if they ever collaborated with the genious that is SV. Now to the pom, poms.

If your a fan of jazz/fusion/synthesized tunes or simply tired of grunting, party music, and the jokes that are MC's today, then this CD is for you. Any artist who can recognize and write tributes to Jazz greats such as Thelonious Munk are not simply noise makers but true artists and know music IMHO. "S.O.U.L", as track 16 is labeled is indicative of what these brotha's are full of- soul.

Also on the great cut list, "Let's", "Tainted", "Disco", "Slumber", "La La", "Whatis This", you know what let me just make it simple listen to tracks 1 through 27- that's right every track on this CD is that good. 27 tracks and I skipped not a one, in fact, I even listended to the 4 blank tracks 23-26 for fear I might miss a note, a bar, a measure that is by far heads over heels ahead of the garbage that is the state of the radio today. As one, review put it, this cd obliterates any of those commercial jokes that sells millions of copies through promotion and the silliness of the average consumer.

I gave this CD a 5, is it truly a 5 cd, based on the level of competition or lack there of in hip hop now a days this CD is no doubt a 5. If ur a fan of Talib, Mos, Tribe, and the like this a must have CD. Imagine how you felt when first hearing Nas Illmatic, or Jay-Z reasonable doubt, Tribe Low End Theory, OutKast albums I and II, orPublic Enemy for the first time, or anyone of the greats from the past Ice Cube and so on ... now imagine getting those feelings all over again that's what SV Trinity will offer.

I'm done raving about this group lest I miss the opportunity to go out and buy all other SV works.

Warning this CD is not for the faint of heart or those who welcome the Force Feeding Mechanism of Music that is the RIAA.

Trinity: Past Present & Future Poster

Slum Village's sophomore album has as many bright moments as it does miscues. Designed to illustrate the group's rise from the Detroit underground, the album's spotty production takes too long to get you throbbing while the villagers manifest. Emcees T3 and Baatin's stepped-up flow is noteworthy, and newcomer Elzhi adds a rougher, battle-ready element to the mix, but at times his gangsta clichés don't mesh with his cohorts' green-tea-and-a-backrub Casanova personas. Though the overall production is uneven, young-Turk beatmakers Karieem Riggins and Waajeed O'Bryant shine on tracks like "La La" and "Tainted," which build on the momentum created by the group's debut, Fantastic, Vol. 2. Unfortunately, Trinity all but excludes founding member-producer Jay Dee, and in the end, Jay Dee's three contributions eclipse all others. We're left wondering what Trinity would have sounded like if all three original members were still in cahoots. As it stands, Trinity's overall vibe comes off like an often misguided attempt to inherit the kingdom A Tribe Called Quest helped build and De La sold. --Arno Kazarian
