Free Music Notes for Slumdog MillionaireFree Music Review: Do original scores get much better? Hit: 5 Stars
How do you add to the emotional traumas of living your life not knowing what tomorrow might bring? For A.R. Rahman, it was his job to create the sounds of the harsh lives of the Mumbai slums. In these original pieces, he created for us the intensity of the riots between Hindus and Muslims ("Riots"), the fragility of a girl being used like a prize ("Latika's Theme") and finally ending it with the victorious dance jam ("Jai Ho"). In addition to the script and the actors delivering it with just the right emotion, the score is what really captivates an audience and throws you right back to a specific scene. With this, you can not only visualize a sequence, you can easily thrust yourself into a monologue of your feelings on the song, the scene and then the film itself in all its glory. If you loved this phenomenal film, purchasing the soundtrack is worthwhile. A.R. is not winning all these awards for nothing, you know!
Free Music Review: Oh my! Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a closet fan of Bollywood music for a long time. While I knew little of Rahman and nothing of the movie, I bought the CD just to see what the current state of Bollywood music is. Oh my! What I got is so much more. There are elements I expected, but the layering of sounds and rhythms is incredible. Just when you think you have the tune or rhythm, Rahman layers on another instrument, beat, rhythm, etc. I have since read that Rahman is considered one of the most beloved composers in India. With this work I would say that designation no longer applies: Rahman should be recognized as one of the most beloved composers WORLDWIDE. Amazing score that leaves you wanting for more from this brilliant artist.
Free Music Review: Loved the music from the start Hit: 5 Stars
I went to see Slumdog Millionaire today. From the very beginning when the boys were being chased through the streets the music caught my attention. The drumbeats were very moving and I wanted to get up and start dancing! I turned to my partner and said "This is going to be a good movie- I love the music already!" He chuckled. In every intense scene the music gave me goosebumps. Whether it was an emotional moving scene, an action packed scene or the final train platform dance the music was fantastic. I'm not usually a critic at all but after this I really wanted to praise this movie and the composer- Absolutely Magical! Thank you Slumdog Millionaire and A.R. Rahman!!!
Free Music Review: Awesome exposure for a brilliant composer Hit: 5 Stars
I can't believe it took me this long to discover A. R. Rahman's music. When I went to see Slumdog Millionaire with my family, my brother and I turned to each other multiple times throughout the picture and said, "We MUST buy this movie's soundtrack." O Saya is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. It's even better if you've seen the movie. It transports you back through a dizzying chase though a Mumbai slum every time. It's an addictive blend of bhangra, dance, and a little industrial. It's wonderful!
Hopefully this album will inspire people new to A. R. Rahman's work to check out his other compositions. Truely, this music is every bit deserving of the awards it has garnered.
Free Music Review: Sold the movie for me. Hit: 5 Stars
You of course should be watching the movie with this music however it does very well on its own. This is an incredibly interesting fusion of traditional Indian music and more modern stuff. Seeing Slumdog I myself was very skeptical but like the movie somehow when taken all together it works.
The highlight for me is probably the last song titled. Jai Ho and I apologize for gushing but it is extremely cool. I'm not pointing out any new trends on the Indian popular music scene but it just seems new because we get so few of the Bolywood movies in the continental United States
