Free Music Notes for Smallville, Vol. 1: The Talon Mix

Free Music Review: Exquisite
Hit: 5 Stars

The superb acting and writing make the show what it is: A powerful, moving, entertaining, emotional experience with lots of bizarre twists and turns. The emotion, is not only portrayed through the actors, but also, through the superb choice of music. Whoever choses the music clearly knows what he or she is doing, because the music perfectly fits the differing moods in the show. "Save Me" is a marvelous opening theme. I don't know why it's so underrated. "Superman" has the perfect lyrics to describe Clark Kent. "Everything" is the most powerful song on the CD. It is touching, inspirational, and portrays moments of romance, fantasy, sadness, and bitersweet yearning. "Fight Test" by the Flaming Lips is a wonderful song. For those who don't remember, it was at the end of the episode with Lex's brother, Lucas. The song perfectly fits the mood: After all the insanity and mystery and lies, it's time to accept what's happened and peacefully move on. A feel-good song. "Time After Time" by Eva Cassidy is a sad, moving song played during Whitney's dad's funeral. "Nuclear" is pretty good. This CD is great, but there are a few missing songs. "Wherever You Will Go" by The Calling, "Tomorrow" (played when Lex sees the Kents rejoicing, and he is standing all alone), and "The Invisible Man" by Theory of a Deadman. But, there can only be so much on a soundtrack. Hopefully, another soundtrack will come out soon! :)

Free Music Review: A Super Soundtrack for a Super Show
Hit: 5 Stars

I just bought the CD today and it's wonderful! The show is one of the best retellings of the Superman legend. Here is a breakdown of the songs:

1. Save Me - Remy Zero (The Opening Theme, Remy Zero's straight ahead rocker, awesome song!)

2. Inside Out - VonRay
3. Island In The Sun - Weezer
4. Superman - Five For Fighting (Of Course, No Superman Soundtrack should be without this song. It's filled with wonder of a Superman knowing that he's got powers but is human at heart.)
5. Nuclear - Ryan Adams
6. Lonely Day - Phantom Planet
7. Fight Test - The Flaming Lips
8. Don't Dream It's Over - Sixpence None The Richer (A cover of the 80's hit by Crowded House - But it's given a softer alt. touch, but works for the CD)
9. Wave Goodbye - Steadman
10. I Just Wanna Be Loved - AM Radio
11. Everything - Lifehouse (Used at the end of the Pilot ep. It expresses Clark's feelings for Lana at the beginning of the 1st season. It's a beautiful moving song)
12. Time After Time - Eva Cassidy (From the late Eva Cassidy, comes this haunting beautiful version of the Cindy Lauper hit. Eva's vocals make this song touching.)

The 12 Tracks are current hip songs, but they do make up the musical history of Smallville. If your a fan of Today's Pop Rock, Smallville, or any of WB's great shows. You'll really enjoy this soundtrack!

Free Music Review: Like Cliff Notes for the Series...
Hit: 5 Stars

If you want to relive the moments of Smallville, this CD will be an excellent companion for you "die-hard" fans. Most of the tracks emulate the mood of the show, with memorable songs like "Don't Dream It's Over" by Sixpence None The Richer, "Everything" by Lifehouse, "Time After Time" by Eva Cassidy, and of course, the "opening title" song, "Save Me" by Remy Zero, in which the band also appeared in the first season's cliffhanger finale. I was disappointed, however, that "Wherever you will go" by The Calling, didn't make the final 12 tracks. In my opinion, it set the tone for the "rollercoaster" relationship between Lana and Clark and makes you think of the times that made you say out loud, "Dammit, Clark!". Despite this, the 12 tracks and the bonus "enhanced" material (playable on a PC) are well worth the cost. If you are an avid fan, and you want to reminisce over the episodes of Smallville, this CD is a "must-buy"...

Free Music Review: "Super" Album!!
Hit: 5 Stars

You don't have to be a fan of the show to be a fan of this music. This soundtrack is a great compilation of relatively "known" and "unknown" artists. It's a great way to discover some new music that isn't bombarded at you by those Top 40 radio stations. Of course some predictable songs are on the album like Remy Zero's "Save Me" and Five for Fighting's "Superman", both of which are great songs. However, there are several refreshingly new developments. Eva Cassidy's haunting cover of "Time After Time" gives you a whole new respect for the song. Sixpence None the Richer also does a wonderful job with Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over". This is a very mellow, chill-type album for those rainy days when you just want to play some great music and relax. My only complaint is that there aren't enough songs on it! I really recommend it!

Free Music Review: Excellent!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Smallville soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks i listened to last year...in fact here is the list of outstanding tracks in the album. Save Me by Remy Zero- since its the theme for the series (Everytime I hear this song it somehow reminds me of the opening credits of Smallville). Even though im not a huge fan...
Weezer- Island In The Sun (Oh well, this band never fails to amuse me...of course who will ever forget "Buddy Holly" and "Sweater".) . The Flaming Lips- Fight Test (If youve never heard of them remember "She Don't Use Jelly"?). Sixpence None The Richer- Don't Dream It's Over (A Crowded House Original). Even if This Single already appeared on "Divine Discontent" Album its still worthy to listen to. An excellent album. Add it up to your cd shelves now... Buy it with any Sixpence Album. You wont regret it.
