Free Music Notes for Adore

Free Music Review: highly addictive
Hit: 5 Stars

adore-very addictive! this was the very first album that i brought, in 98, from the pumpkins. Now, in 2k, i'm a huge fan of the pumpkins.

ok, just before i get to the album and the songs id like to write something for the people who are trying to find which album to get for the pumpkins; if your looking for their hard rock and metal work go to saimese dreams or gish. if your looking for their more goth rock music go to mellion collie. if your looking for their newer work/last offical album or newer sounds go to machina. and if your looking for there deppresing, dream pop side you've come to the right place........and if your looking for smashing pumpkins "best" album go to mellion collie (it has just about all the song your looking for) or again machina if you watching mtv, in 2k. but don't buy pisces isariot unless your a real fan.

the album: smashing pumpkins most deppressing, sad, industrial like album. the album is not something you will like instently, you will need to listen to it 3-8 times to hear the magic of Adore. the album sounds very different from the rest of the pumpkins albums (except machina).

the songs: -to shelia is the first song; very sweet lyrics, billys voice is wonderful, simple music. -ava adore; an love song for the gothic and dark, great music and lyrics, there are six song that are very memorable in adore and this song is one of em. -Perfect; another memorable song, simple lyrics with such great meaning, nice music, many could relate to the song. - daphne descends; i personal hate this song, lyrics, music is irratting, to me, you might like it. - once upon a time ; dream pop disscribies it the most, not bad. tear- very nice song, deppressing, sad. -crestfallen; another memorable song, many could relate to the lyrics, another sad and depressing song. -apples + oranges; don't let the tittle confuse you, another memorale song, here the first lyircs to the song "What if the sun refused to shine?" , that discries the song well. - pug & - the tale of d + pp; both very similar lyrics and music , dream pop. -annie dog & - shame; both deppressing and sad, same type of lyrics and music, only shame is simpler than annie. the next three very similer, all memorable, piano solo, deppresing and sad ballads. 17 - most memorable cann't tell you about it or i'll blow it for everyone.

above all this album is highly addictive. there are many deppressing song but don't let that get to you. if you like this album try machina.

Free Music Review: The Pumpkins at their best
Hit: 5 Stars

The Smashing Pumpkins have always been a band that I've known of and been able to recognize on the radio (how could you not?) but I never truly "got into" them. However, after hearing "Thirty-three" (from "Mellon Collie") on the radio, I finally said, "Okay, I have to listen to these people." Over the past few days, I've listened to all of the Smashing Pumpkins' major studio releases. Based on my impression of them, I have to say "Adore" is my favorite. I don't understand why it was poorly received, both by fans and critics, when it came out. It shows a huge step both forward both musically (for the Pumpkins as a whole) and lyrically (for Billy Corgan). It shows far much more ambition than "Mellon Collie" -- ask yourself, how many alternative bands would attempt to make an album without a drummer? But they attempted and they pulled it off beautifully.

The album opens with the absolutely gorgeous "To Sheila" -- I knew from the first notes that I was going to love the album. It's followed by the electronically-driven and -- dare I say -- catchy "Ava Adore." The two opening songs do what opening songs should do -- they set the tone for the album, as the rest of the album is full of electronics and beautiful piano-driven songs. Don't worry, the guitar isn't absent -- it's still there, it's just not the overpowering force it once was. It blends easily here. Beyond the opening tracks, some standouts are "Daphne Descends," "Annie-Dog," "Blank Page," and "For Martha," Billy Corgan's tearjerking tribute to his deceased mother.

"Adore" proves the musical genius of Billy Corgan. Only a genius could blend all of these noises and come up with the product that he came up with. As I said before, his lyrics also improve with this album -- it's almost as if he stops trying so hard and just lets it come out exactly how he's feeling it ("it" being his mother's death, his divorce, the reunion with his father, etc.). Perhaps that's why I love "Adore" so much -- it's a work of pure emotion, emotion conveyed so well through both the words and the instruments. Don't let yourself be fooled by fans and critics telling you the album isn't "hard" enough -- pick up "Adore," put aside all other influences, and just revel in its beauty.

Free Music Review: Criminally Underrated
Hit: 5 Stars

O.K.,let's see...drummer Jimmy Chamberlin isn't on the record,it doesn't rock, there's no obvious singles, none of the videos from it were played to death on MTV,it sold a fraction of the copies of past records...is that it? Yeah,so what's your point? A)Yes, Jimmy was an integral part of the band's sound, but his departure simply forced the remaining band members to focus on other aspects of thier sound, resulting in the subtlest, most nuanced and varied music they've ever produced(especially the classic 3 a.m. lullaby "To Shiela")B)-Records don't always have to slug you in the gut to have an impact, besides when it takes a while for music to sink in,the pleasure lasts longer when it finally does(example-"Daphne Descends",which seems so slight at first, but let it get under your skin and you'll realize it may be the most intense thing they've ever put out).C) "Perfect" is just that:four minutes of diamond-sharp aural seduction, keyed to an exquisitely yearning melody.D)You know what videos WERE played to death on MTV in 1998? Think Backstreet Boys,Korn,Third Eye Blind,Matchbox Twenty...nuff said...and finally,E)Sinse when do record sales mean a damn thing? All the people who sent "Siamese Dream" and "Mellon Collie" through the roof were simply hopping on the "Alternative" bandwagon because it was the "new thing" the industry was shoving down every one's throat. Now that they've moved on,all that's left are the real fans, and obviously the numbers are gonna be smaller. But a million or so real fans(hell-o!! that's not exactly bad) is better than 8 million shallow scensters anyday. The bottom line is,if you haven't given "Adore" a chance because of all the [stuff] that's been written about in the fair-weather-freind press then you're missing out on an album that more than holds it's own against any thing else the Pumpkins have ever put out.Do yourself a favor, ignore the naysayers, and buy this record. You won't be disappointed;in fact it may end up on alot of your Top 10 lists.(Also, you may want to check out the Vinyl version of the album, usually available from Amazon.com.It's got a different cover, and the version I got was mixed in mono and designed to look like an old album you might find in a flea-market somewhere.Very cool)

Free Music Review: a misunderstood masterpiece, my favorite cd
Hit: 5 Stars

I have a very large collection of cd's. Out of all of them, this is my favorite. There have been many thimes I thought I listened to a cd better then this, such as when I bought Ok Computer by Radiohead or ( ) by Sigur Ros, but after a few days this cd just kept coming into my mind and it became my favorite all over again. Billy Corgan has written his most personal lyrics ever, along with sone of the most beautiful music I have ever heard. Crestfallen remains one of my favorite songs of all time, and most of the songs on this cd would rank among some of my favorite Pumpkins songs.

When I first put in this cd, which was 2 years from the time I have written this review, I had no idea what to expect. I had heard it was more mellow then MCATIS or Simese Dream, but I didm't care because it was songs like Disarm, Crush, Galapogos, To Forgive, In the Arms of Sleep, that made me love the Pumpkins above all other bands. But when I skimmed through the first minute of each song like I always do when I get a new cd, I was amazed at what I was hearing. No, it wasn't what I had expected. It was a whole lot more. That night I listened to the whole thing front to back and it instantly became my favorite cd ever, over Machina, which I had gotton a week before Adore. The songs were so much more then I had thought they'de be. I had figured they would be manily acoustic songs, which I would of loved, but there was a new instrument which I had knew nothing about. The synthesizer. It made you feel like you were floating in space, in songs like Appels and Oranjes, and Daphne Desends. Also, I absoutely loved the electronic drums, which most people hated. I love Jimmy Chamberlin, he is the best drummer of the 90's along with Matt Cameron, but the cd would not feel the same without the sound of the electronic drums.

This cd changed the way I listened to music. I would of never had the patience to listen to Radiohead or Sigur Ros or even attempt to listen to them if I hadn't heard this cd. It made me discover that music was more then a 4 piece band with a drummer, guitarist, bassist, and vocalist. Music was more then how good you can play a solo, how high your songs got on the charts, or how fast and heavy you can be. Music was about how the song made you feel inside. Buy this cd and let it take you to places you've never been.
