Free Music Notes for Adore

Free Music Review: Beautiful
Hit: 5 Stars

I am a major fan of the Pumpkins and I have all all the albums and some Singles. I bought this right after it came out in June, and I admit it, I did'nt like at first it was too quiet and not enough Guitar work. But as I listened to it over and over again I realized this is a great record. Having Fired Drummer Jimmy Chamberlain, THE GREATEST DRUMMER ALIVE,(Listen to Silverfuck on Siamese Dream or Muzzle on Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, you will be amazed.) Corgan was Forced to reinvent his music. so he Quieted things down and used His Piano instead of his Guitar. The first song, To Sheila, is a perfect Introduction to this album. Soft and gorgeous it will leave you Breathless. The next Song, Ava Adore, Does'nt sound like it should be on the album. with heavy electronic drums and lyrics like "I'll pull your crooked teeth and you'll be perfect just like me" But It's a great song. The next song is Perfect And it is. It is my second favorite song of all time.(Behind 1979 on MCIS Nothing is better) The rest of the songs on this album are great too. Crestfallen and Tear have great lyrics. The Heart-wrenching Once Upon a Time & For Martha are songs He wrote for his Mother who Died in 1996. they will leave you in tears.(Unless you have no Heart) The album ends with 17 which is'nt really a song. (I think you are Supposed to contemplate the meaning of life or something....) So thanks for Listening to my thoughts on Adore. All you so called "Pumpkins Fans" Who think this is bad, You are not fans at all you are just pretending. If you liked the Pumpkins You would like anything they came up with. My favorite songs are Perfect, Ava Adore, The Tale of Dusty and Pistol Pete, Crestfallen, To Sheila, Once Upon a Time, For Martha, And Shame. {I know thats a lot But I really love the whole album.)

Free Music Review: Classic, yet ahead of it's time
Hit: 5 Stars

A Smashing Pumpkins album is more then a collections of compositions: it is a representation of the band's current mental state. Think of it through this relationship: if Gish was the door, Siamese Dream was the key to unlocking it. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness kicked it wide open, while Adore took a peek to see what was inside.

In the tradition of what's come before, there are the obligatory, airtime-heavy offerings such as Ava Adore and Perfect, all done very well of course. Adore however treats us to a much higher concentration of what we've come to love about the Pumpkins: low key, intensely personal, under-the-radar anthems such as For Martha, Crestfallen, Once Upon a Time, Tear that challenge our sonic subconscious. Never before had the band treated us with such earnestness.

The trouble is that an ungrateful audience wasn't interested, for reasons that still evade me. The album had many detractors, most arguments cite the drastic new direction and sound: this is the Smashing Pumpkin's we're talking about, correct? Have they not literally changed their tune from album to album? Indeed, these critics fail to realize is that the transition to Adore occurred more gradually then appreciated (Twilight to Starlight gave fans an idea of what to expect).

On many levels Adore was inevitable: as the long awaited answer to Mellon Collie, the Pumpkin's had two choices: continue to push the envelope, or sell out by riding a winning formula. Figuring they were already on top, they wisely chose to play it close to the artistic vest. Let's face it: what was to gain by playing it safe if it only served to compete with contemptible Collective Soul-style imitators and to placate a fickle fan base? To their credit the band stuck to their guns, and the result was their most ambitious project to date.

Free Music Review: greatest album EVER
Hit: 5 Stars

i absolutely worship this album. i have around 300 albums, and this is without a doubt, by far, absolutely my FAVORITE ALBUM EVER. everything about this album is perfectly beautiful and amazing. every song is so awesome (and there's FIFTEEN of em), that i can't even say what the best tracks are, because they all are.

nothing touches me emotionally like this album does. i don't even know how corgan made this masterpiece. i don't know what powers of the universe came together to form this album. especially after the classic mellon collie album. i don't think anybody ever expected corgan to be able to top that album. when you make an album as awesome as mellon collie, you're supposed to be at the top of your career. from there on, it *has* to be downhill. but corgan somehow brought the music to an even higher level, a level higher than _any_ music has ever been before.

nope, there has never been any music created before this album that is as good as the songs on this album. of course, maybe there has and i haven't heard it, but i've heard all of the popular oldies; i've heard all of popular classic rock and pop music; and i've heard hundreds of albums from the 90's; and i've never heard any music that is as mellow, beautiful, perfect, and emotionally powerful as this music.

i didn't even like this album at first. in fact, i didn't even like the pumpkins. i always hated corgan's voice. i heard this album for two years (my sister had it, and played it a lot), and one day when i heard it, i was totally amazed. it just hit me one day. and from there, i listened to the other pumpkins albums, and the next thing i knew, they were my favorite band ever.

and now, i don't care how much music a person has heard in their life. i say, you haven't heard music, if you haven't heard this album.

Free Music Review: The beginning of the end is the beginning
Hit: 5 Stars

I must be one of the very few Smashing Pumpkins fans who prefers Adore/Machina over earlier efforts such as Gish and Siamese Dream. Adore is the sound of a man (Corgan) at his creative peak, his most inspired. It was a blatant refusal of the popular music climate of the time. But then again, the Pumpkins are renowned for that- who would release a sprawling 28 song 2 cd album when all the market really called for was Siamese Dream part II?

This album emphasises keyboards, electronic drums and guitars used to compliment songs rather than dominate them. In fact the album shares more in common with such bands as The Cure than any of the Pumpkin's grunge peers. Gone are the self-loathing stadium filling rockers, replaced with toned down, sweet, soothing harmonies. The album has it's dark moments (Tear, Crestfallen, For Martha, Behold! The Night Mare), it's gorgeous little lullabies (To Shiela, Once Upon A Time), and other catchy, electronic drum-driven songs (Daphne Descends, Appels + Oranjes)...Not to mention (no Pumpkins album would be complete without) the radio-friendly songs such as Ava Adore and Perfect.

As an album, it flows perfectly. To my ear, there are no weak tracks at all (hence 5 stars). Not a dull moment to be heard. Some would refer to this as the beginning of the end for the Smashing Pumpkins, which is perhaps true COMMERCIALLY. However, for Billy's maturity and inspiration as a songwriter, it was just the start. If Billy has released this as a solo-album (after all, it was primarily HIS work) it would have fared better and been far more respected. Fans such as myself hope for a solo effort from Corgan resembling this one day. Zwan is okay, but Corgan is capable of so much more, as shown on this album.
