IMHO this is the best Smashing Pumpkins album - I listen to it more than any of their other albums, all of which I like too (except for Adore and on). Recorded very early in their career, it's a little raw, edgy, and just pure Smashing Pumpkins experimenting with their trademark sounds. It's almost like the sketchbook for Siamese Dream, so if you like that album I would buy this one, too! A must for any Smashing Pumpkins fan! And look - Billy Corgan had hair - that tells you how old it is!Free Music Review: Great start for the Chcago based giants.

This album shows there grunge side as well as their creative side. On I am one everything stands out. same goes for tristessa. all the songs on this album are great to listen to over and over again. This is what I would call Jimmy Chamberlins best days. Lots of creative original sounding work on the drums that no one has tried to repeat. In comparison to Nirvana, this is a way better first album than bleach, but bleach also had some killer tunes. Gish had such an impression on all of us especially the kids who were losers like me. The kids who had taste and personality were the ones with this tape in thier car or at home in thier parents boombox. I personally had to toss out the guns n roses tape that my dad whould always blast. But honestly this cd is worth the price. Such feeling and a sense of power put into the music. There is just something special about this album in comparison to other work from Pumpkins. This web site considers "Gish" just as essential as "Simease Dream" and "Mellon Collie..." I think it may be even more essential. This is by far the best debut album I have ever heard. The lyrics and music always come across as significant. Some people say this is grungy, yet it still sounds like a timeless classic to me.Free Music Review: Amazing debut album

I absolutely agree with everyone who says this is a great album. Is it better than Siamese Dream? I think so, and I believe this because this is a much more raw, less-polished Pumpkins. Far better than when they reached their commericial success zenith.
