Free Music Notes for Machina: The Machines of GodFree Music Review: God I am insaine Hit: 5 Stars
You know i`m not dead, i'm just the tears inside your head. Billy man you said it... it is back too old school rocking for the Pumpkins.Music on the Machina album is art-metal, so if you like art metal, you will love the album.Art cover of the album is absolutly amazingly beautiful. Also producer Flood is back, so album sounds a bit like Mellon Collie.Machina starts powerfuly with the Everlasting Gaze (great video).Next one is Raindrops + Sunshowers which has fantastic drumming.Number 3 is the best song on the album Stand Inside Your Love (beautiful lyrics). It is folowed by I of the mourning, a powerfull song with a great riff.Next one is The Sacred and Profane, a song with a nice chorus.Number 6 Try Try Try a peacefull song, sounds something like the Adore songs. Then things move to high gear with Heavy Metal Machine, if you like Nine Inch Nails you will like the song.Number 8, This Time is a strong song, but a little too long.Next one Imploding Voice, hmmmm.... strange, then it gets even more strange with Glass and the Ghost Children, what to say, what to say?You have got to listen to the song, and you will see that it's hard to decribe it with words.Number 11 is a simple song called Wound (nothing special).12 is The Crying Three of Mercury. It's a very slow song, and maybe little boring.13 a bright song With Every Light, a good Pop song.Next one Blue Skies Bring Tears, has got realy special lyrics. The last one is pretty nice. What is wrong with the album? It is tooooo long, only 3 songs go under 4 minutes and Flood used to highly tuned keyboards, which reflects the confusion with the distortion (a lot of it).But all in all another under rateted masterpiece from Smashing Pumpkins; With Machina/ the Machines of God, they proff, that ROCK is not dead, it just smells funny... :) S.J.
Free Music Review: this is really good Hit: 5 Stars
this cd is really good. you might not think it's the best pumpkins album out there, but it's really not all that bad. here's the breakdown:everlasting gaze-it's on the radio, so it has to be good. and if you really like to hear jimmy do his thing really, really well. this is a good one. raindrops+sunshowers-could easily be played on the radio. it's a great follow up to the everlasting gaze. stand inside your love-it's their first single. it better be good. and it is. i of the mourning-i bet this'll be their next single. starts out kinda slow, but really gets going. great song. the sacred and profane-it dosen't have the push that the first four songs had, but parts'll get stuck in your head. try,try,try-one of the pumpkins lighter songs. not too great, but not too bad heavy metal machines-this one has the push that the first four did. title is self explanitory this time-best mediocre song on the cd the imploding voice-this was one of my favorite songs on the cd. not quite as great as stand inside your love, but it's up there. glass and the ghost children-it's 10 min. long. kinda like two songs in one with a lil' interlude in the middle wound-not bad at all. catchy i guess. the crying tree of mercury-the only song i didn't like on the cd. only song. with every light-very happy and very good. i really liked this one too. blue skies bring tears-hard to describe. similar to speed kills. 5 min. of squikey noises and distorted voices, but that dosen't make it bad. age of innocence-awesome. wonderful song to finish up a well done cd. that sounded really corny. go out and buy this. really. i would not waste my time to write a revew on a bad cd. unless it was really bad or something, but that's besides the point.
Free Music Review: A mature album for the mature music fan Hit: 5 Stars
When Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness emerged on the scene in 1995, it was an album for the masses, and the stellar record sales are highly indicative of that. But now, with the release of MACHINA, the Pumpkins have released an opus that transcends the "songs-for-the-masses" genre. While including songs that are ripe for radio "abuse", this album is more about musicality and growth, than about selling millions of records. It begins (somewhat deceivingly) with the familiar riff of "Everlasting Gaze", and sets the record off into the stratosphere, but quickly returns to earth with "Raindrops" and "Stand Inside Your Love" which probe the melodic abilities of Billy's voice. The album continues to amaze with the beautiful melodies contained within "I Of The Mourning" and "The Sacred and Profane", and just when the album appears to be falling asleep with "Try, Try, Try", it spiral back into the outer atmosphere with "Heavy Metal Machine", an ode to the power chord. The rest of the album effectively returns the listener to the ground softly, with songs that are ripe with mysterious lyrics and melody lines that are reminiscent of the "prog-rock" of the 1970s. But, before the album closes, "Age of Innocence" reasserts that the Pumpkins are still the monarchs of deep, dark, brooding rock. While this album will not necessarily appeal to the fanbase that is defined by the Mellon Collie period, it allows the band to flex a stylistic muscle and metamorphosize into an even better band, both musically and lyrically. A must have for anybody that is tired of the status quo that has so dominated the airwaves for the past few years.
Free Music Review: Best Album of the Year Hit: 5 Stars
It doesn't matter if this album is nominated or not for a grammy for best album of the year, because I know it is. I had to give "Machina/the machines of God" a really good listen before I finally decided to review it. I got it the day it came out, but if I had rushed to review it that same day, I'm sure I would have only given it a rating of three stars instead of the five I'm giving it today. It is a complete album; by that I mean it has a definite beginning and an end. It has its share of highs and lows. It has classic Pumpkins sound, along with new sounds that are important to keeping a band feeling inspired. Although, it's a shame that this might very well be the last new album from the Pumpkins, after their recent talks of breaking up at year's end.You won't find a re-do of "Siamese Dream," "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness," or "Adore" here; "Machina" is it's own album. It takes a while to get in to, but once you do, you can't even force yourself to take it out of your CD player. You'll go back and start to get into songs you used to pass by and then realize out of nowhere, "hey, that's a damn good song." In my case it took a while for me to get into this CD, seeing as how I waited from February 29 until now to review it. There's more to this CD than "The Everlasting Gaze," which is quite radio-friendly. And in a world right now where there are far too many Britneys and Boy Bands, it's nice to know there still are some albums that aren't manufactured only for the sake of money and actually carry a message. Hopefully this won't be the last Smashing Pumpkins album, but if it is, it's a great way to go: with the best album of the year.
Free Music Review: The Emaculate Ending to the Smashing Pumpkins Hit: 5 Stars
Simply stunning. With every album, i have been amazed with the Pumpkins raising the bar on Music in all sences of the word. Some people say that Siamese Dream was the best album they have ever released, i believe it was Machina. Boldly changing there style in the face of there rejection with Adore, The Smashing Pumpkins have moved even farther into a leage of there own. I dont believe that the Pumpkins have ever released a bad song, unless you compair it to a better song the pumpkins have done...Everyone folows the leader, and it has become a rarity to find good lyrics. The Smashing Pumpkins, for better or for worse, never became a leader. In my slightly biased opinion, i believe that is because there will never be another Smashing Pumpkins. Tough luck Nirvana fans, but you cant say that. But now about the album (lol). Pure beauty. Opening up with the feirce testimony of "The Everlasting Gaze", and ending with the moving and amazing "Age of Innocence", this is a cover to cover great album. There was a review on this site that use to be the top of the list (i think it should be right under mine here) that had a problem with some of the songs. Thats too bad. I dont think he gave the album the chance it needs. I admit, it is quite a change from the norm, and it can take a little bit of time to fully grasp. Unless you are into "electronic" sounding music that ranges from heavy to light, you might not want to start your Pumpkins Collection here, but if you have a love for the Pumpkins, there is no way to go wrong with this album. Also, if you loved Adore, you will REALLY LOVE this. Adore was phenominal as well, but even in its beauty, it seemed like a transition to the 'Machina Age' Pumpkins. Merry Mellodies folks!
