Free Music Review: Another Great Pumpkin
Hit: 5 Stars

Hello,... This album is gold for all rock loving teens, it does not matter if you are a pumpkinhead or not, this album is a sure thing. Let's kick off with an opener Soothe...soothe, gentle, acoustic and sad, a great start to the album. Then we have frail and Bedazzeled, which get's us rocking, great song. Plume comes in number 3, but I can not realy make up my mind about it, so let's leave it alone (interesting riff). If you like James Iha's Let it come down, you will just adore Whir (Billy sings, but sounds like an Iha song) Blew away features Iha on vocals, it is mostly an acoustic song, accept it gets siamese dream kind of guitar distortion at the end. I can't decide on the next one... Pissant...Hmmm...Lyrics were wriiten in 10 minutes and that shows, nad Pissant was recorded live, all in all a cool punk song (I gues). Hello kity kat folowes Pissant punk orientation, but with great riffs, pasive-agresive lyrics, and a funny title comes close to perfection, but the mix isn't as good, but a great song anyways. Obscured is on number 8, it should be on Lull, but was droped and put here...an old pumpkin song, from there first days...pure gold for pumpkinheds. Obscured is folowed by another acoustic song Landslide...what to say? Simply beautiful song. At door number 10, it is .... Starla!!! By my judgement the best song on the album, one of pumpkins best work. It goes on for 11 minutes and leaves you dazzeled at the end of a 5 min guitar solo. Next one is another old song from Lull, Blue... it has a great bass intro, and i love it, as i love Girl named Sandoz. There is something about this song that remindes me on John Spencers sound, it is diffrent and great. We are closing in on the album, it is not over yet. La dolly vita is another great song, that sounds, like Gish album songs, and Jimmy realy puts a alot of effort on it. After that there is a weird finnish to the album with Spaced, which is to weird to review. Well, friends it seems that this is it, buy the album, rock your house with it.... till next time... rock on
S.J.

Free Music Review: Songs besides "Landslide" should have been on the Greatest Hits
Hit: 5 Stars

It's the truth...this album is amazing...I listened to The Greatest Hits first, and when I listened to Pisces Iscariot, I was somewhat surprised that great songs such as "Obscured" and "Starla" were not on the Greatest Hits. Those were two of my favorites on this album.

Anyway....I think Pisces Iscariot is not as heavy as the other Pumpkins albums. I got this feeling from songs like Soothe, Whir, Blew Away, Obscured, and La Dolly Vita. However, songs such as Frail & Bedazzled, Pissant, and Hello Kitty Kat are there to offer more variety besides the softness of most of the tracks.

Soothe and Frail & Bedazzled are great opening songs...Soothe is an amazing solo, and Frail & Bedazzled is a great song to bring the listener out of the daydream-like softness of Soothe. I think Plume is a great song because it describes a day full of boredom...and the tone of the guitars illustrates this too.

Now you're all probably wondering, "Why is Obscured your favorite song on the album?" I think it sounds great...I actually listen to Obscured when I'm tired...it's a great mellow song. And as for Starla, I love how it alternates between heavy and soft sounds over the course of 11 minutes. Girl Named Sandoz is actually a funny little story about a girl (named Sandoz, obviously...) that turns out to be a little too old...

Blue is another of those alternating songs (like Starla)...one thing I noticed about Spaced, however, was that it sounds exactly like a dream...an atmospheric background with ringing echoes...

Overall, the album was great. I highly recommend it.

Free Music Review: Most regular CDs aren't this consistently good
Hit: 5 Stars

The songs come from Gish and Siamese Dream era, so its of that pumpkin sound. What I like is that its not really a formal album, so it wasn't all finely chiseled. This format is one of its greatest strengths.

It grows on you.

1.Soothe - Nice little softie to begin it.

2.Frail and Bedazzled - A groover that with the speeding vocals seems almost out of control, but cool.

3.Plume - Slower rock piece, not the best on the album, but by no means bad. (Pumpkins are on a COMPLETELY different scale for rating songs)

4.Whir - One of my favorite pumpkin songs. So soothing, but you can really feel the melancholy sentiment behind the beautiful instrumentation.

5.Blew Away - So-so song out of the Iha library.

6.Pissant - Oh, ya gotta love it. It reflects the senseless rebel in all of us.

7.Hello Kitty Kat - This is definitely a rocker, but the best word to describe it is beautiful. It's so well done, and it grows on you.

8.Obscured - This grew on me perhaps the most. So relaxing, ahhhhhhh, I love it.

9.Landslide - Fleetwood Mac's was better

10.Starla - STARLA! The first five minutes aren't bad, but aren't really good. It's the six minute jam session that has brought this song a cult following and a website (starla.org). This song's rad.

11.Blue - Okay rocker

12.Girl Called Sandoz - Entertaining, yet less emotional and more straight-forward rock than most pumpkin songs.

13.La Dolly Vita - !Excellent! soft one that still shows some real Pumpkin Power at the end.

14.Spaced - Weird, but acceptable because of the format of this album.

Free Music Review: One of the best
Hit: 5 Stars

I ordered the CD form of this because was not on Smashing Pumpkins' vast Amazon MP3 catalog. I just got it today and I love it! If you're a collector of SP's material, this is a MUST, as it contains songs from the Siamese sessions that didn't make the final cut that weren't on any singles or anything, so this is pretty much the only way of accessing them. They are up to par with the album too! By the way, this album is also great for the casual fan because this is your usual early Pumpkins, very impressive. Anyway, the previously unavailable songs, in order, are "Frail and Bedazzled", "Whir" and "Spaced". Another song on here that's exclusive to this collection is "La Dolly Vita" on CD. "La Dolly Vita" was originally on the "Tristessa" single which was only available on vinyl, and it is available as a good CD-quality track here. So, after you reading this short review you can probably tell that it wasn't exactly for those who are totally new and unfamiliar to the Smashing Pumpkins, but more familiar fans and collectors. However, this CD is a must for those who are trying to collect all of their stuff, those who loved "Siamese Dream" (didn't we all???) and anyone who loves 90's alternative in general (check out "Frail and Bedazzled")! ATTENTION: There is a bonus single that came with the vinyl edition of Pisces that featured two old demos. They are available right here on Amazon MP3 under the album "Rarities and B-sides"; they are tracks 26 & 27. So, after you order this CD, snag those two MP3s so you'll have the [more interesting] expanded edition of Pisces!

Free Music Review: i am B-side myself
Hit: 5 Stars

If your just discovering the pumpkins then i reccomend keeping an eye out for billy corgan and company when it comes to b-sides. some of his b-sides are as good as any thing he releases, sometimes better. for example, i bought the single for the song ZERO and freequently play it as if it is an actual album.
this album was released after siamese dream and before mellon collie. it is amazing. i think his cover of stevie nicks landslide outshines the original (and buries the dixie chix version)
this album is filled with both electric and acoustic songs. another interesting note is that james iha sings on blew away. i love pissant, an angry less than two minute blasting rocker that scorches my ears. also girl named sandoz, plume and the 7 minute builidng beauty of starla which starts off acoustic but builds to electric with some great jazz drumming from drummer extraordinaire jimmy chamberlain.
all in all this is as good an album as any "official" release. sometimes when you hear b-side album, ytou think the material may be weaker but forget that idea when you speak of billy because when he writes, he really writes and not all his good songs are releases right away. i knew most of the songs here because i collected the singles from siamese dream. starla on the single i have is ten minutes plus where as on pisces it is chopped to 7 something.
