Free Music Review: Simply beautiful
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is simply beautiful. IMO, Smashing Pumpkins is one of the great bands that came out of the 90s and honestly, no band today can compare to what Smashing Pumpkins was able to do. Their music is so distinctive and unique that you know when it's a Smashing Pumpkins song you're listening to.

Some of the songs on this album: Disarm, Today, Rocket, Cherub Rock, and Mayonaise. Frankly, the entire album is awesome, you can't go wrong buying this album as all the songs are incredible. I'll just give a few thoughts of a few of the songs I mentioned.

I think Disarm has a pensive and somber tone, with the strings giving an almost bittersweet sound, and of course Billy Corgan's unmistakable voice that just makes the song perfect.

Rocket has a weird, odd rhythm to it, seems appropriate to the song, flying free. It sounds out there and surreal, but in a good way.LOL. I love the guitar riffs that accompany this song.

Today seems to strike a very nostalgic chord, a lot of yearning and wistful. Again, Billy Corgan's singing voice really captures this feeling quite well.

Cherub Rock is loud and will blow you away with its catchy guitar riffs.

Mayonaise is my favorite song on the entire album. I can listen to this song over and over again without getting bored of it. The beginning guitar solo is haunting, exquisite, and so mesmerizing. It's about a 45 second guitar solo and I think it's the best part. The best part because it sets up the mood of the song so well, of an almost dreamy contemplation tinged with melancholiness.

I highly recommend this album, heck you can't go wrong with Smashing Pumpkins, also check out their other albums, in particular Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

Free Music Review: Forget "Ten" and "Nevermind" for now..."Siamese Dream" is really the unsung hero of the early 90s!
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is quite a tough one for me to judge. Upon my first listen, I was not that impressed as I was completely captivated in Nirvana's albums and Smashing Pumpkins other masterpiece "Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness".
Little did I know this was actually a really really really shining part of the Pumpkins catalogue.
This has to be one of the 90s greatest albums. It doesnt sound dated like "Ten" or other alt. rock albums.
It bugs me that no one ever really acknowledges this album when referring to the 90s or the Pumpkins.
It is a fantastically produced, quiet/loud, layered big album!
I still count "Mellon Collie" as their best album for its sheer adventurous genre hopping sound, but this album, (for only 1 disc!!) is early 90s music at its pinnacle!
The Best songs here are:
Cherub Rock (Great opener, big rocker track, fantastic sound!)
Quiet (The distorted Pumpkins sounds awesome on this other rocking track)
Disarm (One of my all time favourites..absolutely incredible sounding song)
Today (Classic)
Soma (I loved the layered sound, also the gradual peak from quiet to loud to quiet...awesome)
Mayonaise (I love Mayonaise so much..The live acoustic version from Earphoria is another must hear song!!)
Spaceboy (Another absolute favourite..it proves The Pumpkins were from a different type of genre when compared to heavyweights Nirvana and Pearl Jam)

All in all, I really recommend this album..its right up there with the all time great albums and all these 5-star reviews arent for nothing...it really is a genuine 5 star masterpiece which evolved from their 1st album "Gish" and really helped them establish their own sound. Buy this now!!! You are missing out!

Free Music Review: THIS TOOK A LONG TIME TO GROW ON ME - & NOW I LOVE IT..
Hit: 5 Stars

It's funny to think I've owned this album over 2 years, but only recently I decided to give it a honest chance by listening to it straight through instead of the singles & songs I've become more familiar with

At first.. I thought this album was a bit over rated & didn't deserve the 5 star rating it gets from amazon reviewers... boy, was I wrong, & I'll admit it.. I think something that held me back from giving this album the proper chance was Billy's ego.. it was a bit too much for me to look past that & acknowledge his music, but I finally did

'Siamese Dream' shows the Smashing Pumpkins & Billy Corgan at their prime, & most infuriated... driven by raw, 'My Bloody Valentine' type guitar streams of distortion, & Jimmy's excellent drumming, it comes in a beautiful & concentrated format... somewhat of an organized chaos

'Silver-' & 'Mayonaise' are the best songs on the album in my opinion, & shows the technical ability of the band working together to create very emotionally intense songs... the end of 'Silver-' when it slows down & Billy sings, "I feel no pain" with the bassline beating like a heart is absolutely breathtaking

This is the type of album that deserves a listen straight through.. no skipping tracks, none of that, don't do what I did, because I made a mistake... I now question anyone's judgement who feels this album is over rated.. it's not, it's under rated, & 'Siamese Dream' is one of the greatest albums of the 90's... alongside any album made by Pearl Jam in the 90's - 'The Bends' & 'Ok Computer' by Radiohead, 'Dirt' by AIC, & 'Superunknown' by Soundgarden.

This is their masterpiece, & proved them to be one of the more complex bands of their generation.

Free Music Review: An absolute necessity
Hit: 5 Stars

With the release of the incredibly underrated Gish, The Smashing Pumpkins instantly became one of the most fascinating indie acts to emerge from the late 80s. However, while the debut LP succeeded in delicately crafting a unique blend of grungy guitars and MBV dream pop aspirations, Gish still barely scratched the surface of the Pumpkins' wildly ambitious core. It wasn't until the band's following LP, Siamese Dream, that the Pumpkins' amazing potential fully gave way to an aural avalanche of achievement. With Butch Vig at the production console and group tensions running at an all time high, the gushing torrents of emotions and talent struck a perfect, hypnotizing harmony. The guitars flow with staggering might, the drums pound with menacing precision, and Billy Corgan's voice rings out in a shrill, sweet angst ridden declaration. And yet somehow, all the dozens of layered riffs and piles of synthesized distortion manage to create something supremely beautiful at the heart of their frenzy, channeling despair and anguish into hopeful introspection instead of direction-less aggression. This unnatural blend of hope and despair, beauty and power is idyllic to the point of surrealism, soothing the senses in a way that defies description. The songs contained within this single disc symbolize a dawning of acceptance and a realization of emotional equilibrium, but most important of all, Siamese Dream marked the point when The Smashing Pumpkins changed from being great to truly awe inspiring. Still the single greatest triumph of Corgan's tortured adolescent soul, Siamese Dream will forever stand as one of Indie Rock's most inspiring masterpieces, destined to prod the imaginations and massage the souls of countless generations to come.

Free Music Review: The Pinnacle Of Alternative Rock
Hit: 5 Stars

Out of every great album to come out of the "grunge era" in music, none has touched the ethereal beauty of Siamese Dream. It's interesting to note that this was only the second major-label album by the Smashing Pumpkins, and it delivers so much more than Gish does that it is mind-blowing. Simply calling it an improvement would be a grave understatement because the album delivers on so many levels. It's a shame I wasn't at the proper age in 1993 when this came out. I wish I could have enjoyed it.

I digress. The 250 or so other reviews have pretty much delivered the message. Siamese Dream is a masterpiece. "Cherub Rock" opens the album with a large, sweeping, sound; heavy guitars augment Chamberlain's intricate drumming as Corgan delivers cryptic lyrics in his thin whine of a voice(which is NOT annoying--in fact it is different from the sound of any vocalist from any other grunge band). "Today" delivers its dark melodicism, beginning with the 'ice cream truck' guitar plucking. "Rocket" and "Disarm" reflect each other as opposites, one being a guitar-heavy rock tune, the other an orchestral acoustic ballad. "Mayonaise" is a long, beautiful, softer arrangement--with very honest lyrics. "Silverf**k" is a 7-minute rocker with quiet midsections interspersed with the heavy rock. Throughout the remaining gems on Siamese Dream, solos blaze, lyrics begin journeys in the mind, constant innovation appears, and uplifting, happy-sounding, music fills the ears and the soul.

A true masterpiece and milestone of what grunge was. It changed history and shined bright, making '93 the landmark year it was. In Utero could never do the same. The Pumpkins were one of a kind.
