Free Music Notes for ZeitgeistFree Music Review: Angels watching over 2007 Hit: 5 Stars
Billy Corgan has been the primary song writer for the Smashing Pumpkins from the very beginning. With that said, its unfair to call this a glorified solo album. Smashing Pumpkins are no different than bands such as Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle, Marilyn Manson, etc. Darcy left on her own terms for motherhood with the full support of the band. Iha had the opportunity to revive the legacy and play very influential songs under the monicre they all created, but chose not to reunite. So we have Chamberlin and Corgan, and in 2007 have been able to finally create an album that captures both their youthish Gish with the later and more darker toned Machina... Jimmy's drumming is amazing with some interesting "sound capture" techniques that far surpass previous efforts even though they still rocked! If anything this album sounds more like the Pumpkins since MCIS and any true fan should embrace and be thankful for a new Pumpkins record!
Free Music Review: I will never listen to another review again. Hit: 5 Stars
About three days ago, I went to Wikipedia to see how well Zeitgeist was doing with "professional" critics. Unfortunately, Zeitgeist was getting mixed reviews. All-Music gave the album a two star out of five claiming that the "album sucked because some of the original members weren't participating in the reunion". Terrible reviews. Other reviews hailed Zeitgeist as a wonderful comeback album and I'd have to agree completely.
Zeitgeist shows the harder rocking Billy Corgan, there aren't any soft songs in this album. That was the earlier Smashing Pumpkins, and that's the exactly the reason why I love this album. It's something new and fresh.
I've learned that reviews are a waste of time. Everybody's different and it's impossible to have an album that EVERYBODY enjoys. Do yourself a favor and listen to the album yourself, make your own judgments.
Free Music Review: apparently amazon critics get it Hit: 5 Stars
i swear the majority of the 'music critics' out there just get off on bashing billy...i've loved the pumpkins for so long, i grew up with them, and at the same time, i wasnt big on zwan and billy's solo stuff didnt really grab me so i'd like to think i can be objective...as much as i was hoping this album would be good i was still caught off guard by how much it grabs you by the cojones and doesnt let go...this album ROCKS hard..i love adore and their quieter stuff but i wanted a harder album so bad and i got it...jimmy's drumming in particular is just fantastic, he shows why he is one of the best drummers playing and he stays locked into the song, pushing the raging guitars and driving the beat...the last 30 seconds of Starz alone is enough to make your head explode...love it love it love it
Free Music Review: ignore the controvesy, enjoy the music Hit: 5 Stars
There seems to be a lot of focus on Billy's use of the name Smashing Pumpkins, when its only half of the original band. I say who cares? This IS a Smashing Pumpkins record because, with this release, you realize that their signature sound came from Billy's buzzing guitar and one of the best drummers in rock today, Jimmy Chamberlain. This is a beautifully produced, majestic and searing album. Lyrically, it is a reflection of (and on)these turbulent times. The guitar solos have even more bite to them than the original band, and it sounds way better than Zwan, which I wasn't thrilled with. Albums should be evaluated on the quality of the music on the disc. Other considerations are secondary. Don't let the arguments over Billy's band name stop you from enjoying this fine release.
Free Music Review: Great Album by the SP! Hit: 5 Stars
First off, those who say "Its not really Smashing Pumpkins becasue D'arcy and James Iha aren't in the lineup anymore" do not know what they are talking about. Why? Because its known that for the most Part, Billy Corgan recorded most of the guitar and bass parts for all their past albums. James Iha and D'arcy played very little on the albums, mainly because they could never really get their parts sounding right. It was almost all Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain. So Iha's and D'arcy's are a dime a dozen...Doesnt matter who plays bass or rhythm guitar for the SP, because Billy and Jimmy are the Smashing Pumpkins.
That said, I think this album is a great return after 7 years! A nice anthemic heavy rocker...Awesome album, dont miss out!!!
