Free Music Notes for ZeitgeistFree Music Review: Forget the bias Hit: 5 Stars
I really wish people would (inevitably) stop comparing it to their older material.. in my opinion it was a different era of (far, far better) music, which i'm not sure the Pumpkins would fit into if they released it now. Zeitgeist is, to me, an amazing and diverse album, and while it doesn't give the same 'feel' as previous albums, if you give it a chance without throwing it off as a sub-par CD and let it grow, it will be one of your favorite albums for a while to come in a time of fairly tragic music everywhere else.
People forget your bias to the 'older' Pumpkins and pick up a copy, you won't regret it.
Free Music Review: Corgan's best since "Adore" Hit: 5 Stars
SP has always been about Billy Corgan. I simply think this is his best work since "Adore" which was probably overlooked by all but the most ardent SP fans-- it was too different from other work and had no "1979" or "Today". "Adore" has some great songs and beautiful guitar work. It seems that after "Adore" Billy went off into sonics, as witness Zwan (just a lot of noise to me) and his solo work. On "Zeitgeist" I declare that Billy the genius guitar hero is back. Here the sonics work! Do yourself a favor and get a copy of Adore, though, for the beauty Billy's capable of producing.
Free Music Review: FLAT OUT ROCKS! Hit: 5 Stars
I was never a huge pumpkins fan, I liked their singles but never owned any albums. Plus I could care less who is in the band, I care only about whether or not the songs affect me. Having said that, I think this album is fantastic. I am a hard rock fan, always have been, and this album takes me back to some of the best rock albums I have heard. The guitars and drums just pound. 'Starz' is brilliant, I havent heard a track that rocks this hard in a long time, the splash cymbals over the bashing drums and roaring guitars are brilliant. STRONGLY recommended to hard rock fans.
Free Music Review: book by its cover Hit: 5 Stars
Honestly, I couldn't be more annoyed by the people who continue to say that this is not a Smashing Pumpkins album. Who wrote all the lyrics for the previous 5 albums except for like 5 songs? Billy Corgan. Who wrote all the music? Billy Corgan. Interestingly enough Iha and Darcy weren't even that big of a part of the Pumpkins in the first place. Yes the band isn't the same without them, but seriously...Billy is the mastermind behind the band, there is no arguing that fact. Seriously, judge the album by the music not its name or authors.
Free Music Review: Great Comeback! Hit: 5 Stars
As someone who grew up listening to SP, I must admit I was somehow cautious when I heard of the new album coming out. Somehow after I listened to Zeitgeist for the first time, I was impressed! The Pumpkins are back... regardless of the line up, they are back! Happy to say that this album reminded me of songs from the now classic era of MCIS like Where the boys fear to tread, one of my personal favourites. Yet the only thing I miss is the sound of piano based songs from the Adore era, but nevertheless, Zeitgeist is a great album.
