Free Music Notes for Louder Than BombsFree Music Review: Whether you're a fan of the Smiths or not, this one's great Hit: 5 Stars
Something of a classic among punk fans, Louder than Bombs is the Smiths at their best. Some really great tunes are on this album including Is it really so Strange, Girl Afraid, Heaven Knows I'm miserable now (gotta appreciate the optimism that is Morrissey's trademark eh?), Oscillate Wildly, and many others. Combining music that set the trend for other would-be alternative bands, the Smiths reached their apogee with this album and with a combination of insightful lyrics that are both seemingly bleak and realistic as well as music that will make you move with its rocking sounds, this album is definitely worth owning especially because some of the songs on this album aren't found on the greatest hits cds which I also own. Much as I still like Morrissey, I prefer him with Johnny Marr and the Smiths. Anyway, for all you would-be retro music enthusiasts, goths, and other youngsters, go get this album and satiate that longing within you to be melancholy with style!
Free Music Review: The real singles Hit: 5 Stars
I remember when Louder Than Bombs came out my friend who had been collecting the 45's with a hefty Import price threw a hissy fit. He blamed Morrissey. But can you trust a guy who wrote Pack them up in different sleeves, buy both and feel deceived. A quote that almost predicts the substandard hits and singles collections to come years later. If you're looking for the real singles, here they are! Throw your homework onto the fire- come out and find the one that you love Morrissey sings in Sheila Take a Bow. This collection is a great mix of the Morrissey-Marr song pairing. It contains one of their greatest love songs Ask. The rocking squeal of London is one of my favorites. While other softer songs Back to the Old House and Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want remain some of their poignant best material. If you are looking for an essential singles collection- this is it.
Free Music Review: The Place Between Hit: 5 Stars
The Smiths are one of the most original of Rock bands and most unimitatable and because of this, like The Doors, requires a few listens to truly appriciate them. Like The Doors, The Smiths are a philosophy as well as a music, a between philosphy, a philosphy that is neither good or evil, but in the "Nietzschian" sense, beyond it - nihilistic. Shoplifters of the world Unite is one my favorites, but do shoplifters really have the moral fortitude to unite, would they trust each other, I doubt beyond the mayhem of a day. Although shoplifting can be fun, especially for smokes or alchohol. The lyrics are beautifully sung and contain double meanings and much inuendo as Morrissey's vocals hover over a second rate band trying to find it's voice. It doesn't matter that they are second rate, like The Doors, the singer's ego is something of a puppet master over a seeking sound.

No ones 80's record collection is really complete unless it contains a Smiths album, and if you are still a little unsure then this compilation is a really great place to start, before trying their proper albums
(in particular "The Queen is Dead" & "Strangeways Here We Come".)
With Morrissey's poetic lyrics and Johnney Marr's great guitar playing,
your in for a treat whenever you listen to a Smiths song.
And if your still hungry for more after those albums check out Morrissey's solo stuff like "Bona Drag" and "Your Arsenal".
All those people who dismiss the lyrics as "Whiny" really haven't LISTENED to them nor understood the amusing and witty remarks that lie within them.
"I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour but heaven knows I'm miserable now"
Most of us have been there, thanks Morrissey.

Free Music Review: Is i Really So Strange? Hit: 5 Stars
I read this book in which the song "Asleep" is a focus. I bought this cd to listen to Asleep, and I must say, that at first I just listened to Asleep, because it was too long to sit through to hear all of it. But I just left it in my cd player, and kept playing it. The more I listened, the more I loved it. Its just great, kind of odd sounding songs. It is an acquired taste, but you'll like it, but if you aren't gonna give it time to get under your skin, you'll not like it. For fans of bands like Radiohead, R.E.M., Oasis, and Blur. Some good "sonic experimentation", some songs that somebody who likes good musicality will enjoy, nothing that will sound like you would hear on the radio, some songs even stick in your head. Very excellent, way long, longest cd I own! 24 frikin' tracks, didn't think that many songs fit on a cd!
