If you don't own this album you really ought to get with it - a majority of the songs on this singles collection are absolutely essential, and most all of the songs are entertaining, endearing, intelligent, and brilliant. The Smiths really were a great band - I wish I could have enjoyed them live back in the 80's but unfortunately I was just a young unaware boy then - I must mention, I love their album covers - I've been collecting the vinyl singles, to listen to of course, but also because of the beautiful potraits that Morrissey choose to put on the sleaves. You will never in your life buy a better album(oops, CD!...I'm dating myself!), so get this now if you're second guessing yourself. I bought this on album when it came out, and again on CD when I converted to that medium. I now have to re- buy this because my husband has "discovered" the Smiths, and was less than gentle with my copy. I knew that I couldn't do the recording justice by trying to fix the scratches, so I am buying it again. I need this CD to live, for life simply is not complete without it. This time, though, I will hide it from my husband! He can buy his own!Free Music Review: Thank God for The Smiths!

I can't even begin to explain to you how much I LOVE The Smiths. Louder Than Bombs has been a life-changer and a life-saver for me. The songs are so unfathomably BEAUTIFUL and BRILLIANT, yet so incredibly accessible. You don't have to be a rock snob to find yourself singing along. And Louder Than Bombs is probably to best of The Smiths' work for a listener to begin with, because it contains such a wide variety of their songs and gives you the most for your money (24 tracks!). It was my first Smiths CD, and I am so eternally glad that I got it. You MUST own this.Free Music Review: overwhelmed

Looking at the list of songs on this album, I am overwhelmed at their brilliance. I don't know how they did it, but Morrissey and Marr had some connection that allowed them to create some of the most magnificent songs ever written. The Smiths are comparable to U2 in talent and song-writing ability, they just were never quite as popular because they never sold out to the mainstream. Although Morrissey can be a bit pompous at times, he has always stayed true to his art.
