Thunder is one of the best CDs ever composed. I had an idea of what I was buying because I went to see S.M.V. live at the Paramount in Charlottesville, Virginia. These three masters of bass-playing put on a wonderful show. The entire audience gave standing ovations galore. Several songs from that performance are on this CD.
The CD starts with the first track, Maestros De Las Frecuencias Bajas, setting the tone. What follows is pure, low frequency sounds that boggle the mind - three bass harmony. Who would have thought bass playing could compliment another bass, or two in this case. This CD will have songs with lead bass playing along with rhythm bass, plus thunder low-bass-just flat out awesome. All of the tracks are great, but the true meat of this CD is with track 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 13. These tracks display S.M.V.'s individual talents yet blends them together for our musical delight. Again, don't get me wrong, they are all great tracks but the brilliance of what this CD represents is displayed on the tracks I mentioned. Track 7 is Stanley playing the upright bass. It will sound like several instruments are playing but believe me, most of what you will be hearing is Mr. Clarke playing by himself. Track 9 has Marcus Miller playing the clarinette to perfection. Of course, it is a "bass" clarinette. Definitely purchase this CD. It is a five star CD or none exists anywhere for any artist.
