Free Music Review: Great Album
Hit: 5 Stars

I pre-ordered this album a while ago and received it yesterday. I absolutely recommend it to every fan of Stanley, Marcus and Victor. This is to my opinion the Jazz album of year. S,M & V show here why they are the best at what they are doing. There is no showing off as pretends one of the reviewers; S, M & V just have uncommon technical skills with their instrument. There are Great compositions, great arrangements and great a sound; in summary, this is great music! The leading and supporting roles are appropriately shared. I find the first song of the album ("Maestros de las Frecuencias Bajas") outstanding. The rhythm used in "Mongoose Walk" is similar to what can be found in some of Richard Bona's albums, a typical central African rhythm: this was perhaps a little salute to Richard. "Los Tres Hermanos" and "Milano" just melt you down, Waooooo!! The harmonies from the basses don't make you feel like you are missing the presence of an electric guitar. The re-arrangement of "Tutu" is outstanding: Stanley's line on the acoustic bass is awesome. Butterscotch does a cool vocal beat box in "Pendulum".

This album is simply GREAT!!!

Free Music Review: SMV THE MASTERS
Hit: 5 Stars

I downloaded the Thunder CD, and I really enjoyed listening to this CD. I like the whole CD. I found myself trying to distinguish who was playing what part. I must certainly know Stanley's playing but trying to figure when Marcus or Victor is playing is hard to do. Man what a collaboration. So when SMV perform in Durham NC, what a treat. I was seated in third row from the stage, and I was flawed by the playing and sound of the three basses. Seeing them live gives you the opportunity to see who is playing what parts. Stanley still have it, Marcus if full of energy and is very talented, Victor is a Monster on the bass. I have seen Stanley perform before, but it was first time seeing Marcus and Victor perform. What a pair; outstanding musicians. The three received several standing ovations. What a show. My tickets also included a meet the performers, autograph signings, and picture taking before the show. Man what an experience. All three performers was very polite and cooperative with the autograph seekers. The CD is great but you must see them live. Peace out. Ty

Free Music Review: Live in Barcelona
Hit: 5 Stars

This something to behold. The album is fantastic; and live is even better. Believe it or not, these are the short versions of this material. Unlike some instrumentals which are sharp and ear piercing, this is more reminiscent seeing Yo-yo Ma on steroids. There are sweet tones that are both warm and exciting.
The amazing thing about this CD is that each musician finds his own place and there is no clash between the multiple basses. They listen to each other and expand on each other. I would list my favorite songs, but each time I listen to the CD I develop a new "favorite". These musicians truly are the Masters of the Bass Frequencies.
We saw them at a club called Razz Ma Tazz in Barcelona and it was fantastic! The encore was an incredible rendition of School Daze that featured solos and a collaboration by the three best bass players alive today. Buy this disc and see this band. It is a once in a life time opportunity.

Free Music Review: Thunder and Lightening
Hit: 5 Stars

I cannot agree more with those who say this is a great album. I have been a Stanley Clark fan since I first heard him play with Return to Forever back in the '80s. I think I have (hope I have)
every album he has done and when I saw that he had teamed up to create this album, I "Jumped" on it. Marcus and Victor are fantastic as is the Masterpiece they, together, created. More. More. More. As for why I called my review thunder and lightening, I can definitely hear the thunder in some of the cuts and it "sounds" as if they are playing as fast as lightening sometimes.

I am looking forward to the nest iteration of SMV. Make it soon, y'all.

Free Music Review: Go out and get it . . . NOW!! :)
Hit: 5 Stars

I had this on pre-order as well and was very happy when this arrived in the mail. It went straight into the CD player and just dropped me. If you love the sound of bass, the sound of three of the best players coming at you is just tremendous. The beautiful thing about this is, while the technical skills and musicianship are outstanding, it also resonates on other levels. There are some grooves and melodies that just grab you -- even my 2 and 4 year old are dancing to it. It's downloaded onto my Tascam MP-BT1 headphone amp now -- by no means can I play along to it at this point but it's inspiring and enjoyable to listen to nonetheless. Highly recommended.
