Hit: 5 Stars

SNOOP DOGG
DEATHROW GREATEST HITS

I like to do this track by track so hear we go.

1."Nuthin but a G Thang"-The classic cut off of Dr. Dre's "The Chronic". This classic has a fresh Snoop laying verses that made him famous. The beat is one of those few that will never be toped with its smooth feel and perfect blend of samples. Dre sounds great over this track as does Snoop who kills it.

2."Head Doctor"-This is a remade version but is bangin, Snoop comes correct on this one, as does a talented Swoop G. Kurt Kobane's excellent production on this track is outstanding and really makes this song a hit. Add in the very catchy chorus and you have all the makings of another Deathrow hit. Swoop G steals the show with his verse.

3."Gin & Juice"-This was actually the most played Snoop video to date, this video stays on count downs. Of course you all know this song and its very catchy hook, and the production on this one is flawless. Excellent track and a classic for sure.

4."Eastside Party"-At the beginning of this one you hear the great Tupac, then comes a nice hook from Nate Dogg, over all it is pretty good. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis did an excellent job with the production on this one right here. Plus Nate Dogg is the king of hooks and sounds great on this track. Snoop of course sounds great during his Deathrow days. Another excellent track added to the album, great unreleased track.

5."Murder Was the Case"-One of the greatest songs ever made. This is the remix that was on the soundtrack of the same name. The original version was on Snoop's debut album but this is the version most people know. Dre's production once again is flawless and adds so much to the storytelling of Snoop's verses. Great and classic song, excellent track.

6."Ain't no Fun"-My favorite track from "Doggystyle", Snoop does well, Nate is hot, Warren G is tight, but Kurupt rips it out of this song. Another classic from Snoop's debut album that features the greatest ever Kurupt who steals the show of course. But Snoop does his thing as does Warren g and Nate Dogg. Dre provides and excellent fun and energetic beat for this one.

7."Doggfather remix"-Timberland doesn't hit like he usually does but it is ok as far as his production on this one with Lonnie Simmons. Snoop sounds ok over this but this was not the right sound for Snoop. Probably my least favorite of the album.

8."Midnight Love"-This is the best song of the unreleased tracks. The beat by Snoop and Soopafly and verse by Daz make this a classic song, Raheal does a wonderful job on this with a haunting hook. Snoop sounds excellent on this track and the video for it is classic. Daz steals the show though with his closing verse.

9."Eastside"-This track features the original Eastsidaz over a nice LT Hutton production, Daz kicks it off with a nice verse. Snoop drops his verse next with a verse you may have heard him spit on another track. Tray Dee destroys the track next with a show stealing verse followed by Daz once again. A great addition to the album.

10."Who am I"-We all know about this one, CLASSIC. What else is there to say about the song that even your grandmother knows. Snoop sounds excellent over one of Dre's best productions.

11."Doggy Dogg World"-Another smooth ride by Tha Pound, this joint is banging for sure. The video for this one is classic and Snoop sounds great over another wonderful Dre track. Daz sounds great as well along side the great Kurupt as they steal the show once again.

12."Too High"-Another unreleased track right here with another smooth LT Hutton production, it reminds me of something but I can't think of what. Snoop starts it off with one of his best verses ever talking about his school days. The Twinz kick it off next like only they can with that G Funk sound that they are known for, I wish they would come with another album. Daz finishes off the song with another show stealer, this is another great addition to the album. Also the great Big Pimpin is on this track.

13."Vapors"-Another joint worth bumping right here as if you didn't know, this is Snoop's classic remake from Tha Doggfather album. DJ Pooh does a great job on the production and Snoop sounds flawless on this track.

14."Usal Suspects"-This joint is another banger and once again is another LT Hutton produced unreleased track. Threat starts things off over the sinister beat and sounds right at home. Snoop takes from his boy Bad Azz for the hook and then hits us with a great verse. Threat returns and drops another great verse followed by Snoop.

15."Keep it Real"-This is a east coast diss track with Snoop, Mack 10, Kurupt, Bad Azz, Techniec and Threat. Mack 10 kicks it off over this fly Soopafly instrumental taking shots at the East Coast during the infamous beef of the 90's. The excellent Bad Azz drops one of the best verses on the entire album and shows why he should be one of the highest selling ever. Techniec drops it next with an excellent verse and like Bad shows why he should get more respect and sells, love the shots at the other side. Kurupt does his thing next and of course rips it up with his lyrical mass destruction. Threat kills it next taking more shots at the East, Snoop though does not rap on this just talks and presents the other artists. One of the best on the album for sure.

16."Snoop Bounce"- I don't care what the others say, I like this joint it is a nice change in pace. Snoop, Charlie Wilson and Rage Against The Machine. Terry Date did a great job with this one, I kinda like Snoop over the rock sound.

Well that's it for now, stay up 1.

Death Row's Greatest Hits Poster

Chuck D of Public Enemy once prophesized that if artists didn't own their masters (tapes), the masters will own the artists. Well, hip-hop's fave gangster CEO Suge Knight owns most of his former high-profile label mates' master tapes and continues to issue collections of dated works by Tha Dogg Pound, Dr. Dre, and now Snoop. Originally entitled Dead Man Walking to scare the willies out of Snoop, this release comes with a big fat greasy caveat emptor. Sure, this is a ghetto fab collection of the Doggfather's finest pre-No Limit and Doggystyle Records moments dating back to his brilliant cover of Biz Markie's "Vapors" on Tha Doggfather album. That said, Snoop wants nothing to do with this release because he won't receive any proceeds from it and has urged his fans not to buy it. Contractual shenanigans aside, this release is off the hook and contains most of Snoop's finest career headbangers, from "Gin and Juice" to "Who Am I (What's My Name)." A great purchase if you can live with your conscience. --Dalton Higgins
