Free Music Notes for DoggystyleFree Music Review: Snoop Dogg Hit: 5 Stars
Snoop's first (and I am just about sure the best selling) album. It is a masterpeice. Came out in the '93's and sold very well. Later Snoop did his 2nd album "Tha Doggfather" Once again, sold very well. Snoop was big, a real big rapper, like he still is this day, and always will be. On this album, CLASSIC song "Who Am I? (What's My Name)?" makes it's way to track 8, as one of the greatest hits on this album. Other hits include "Gin & Juice" "Ain't No Fun" "Doggy Dogg World" and some more but those are enough for you to get the idea that Snoop Dogg is such a great rapper. I mean, almost every song on this is a hit. That is why it sold so well. Mabey (but not sure) but just mabey, might of sold better than Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" I don't think so.... but just mabey. Track 6 "Murder Was The Case" didn't make it's way to a hit like it's remix did. But is still an awesome song. I think that the normal is better actually! "Tha Shiznit" is another very popular track. All are great though. Dre wasn't a guest really on this, which I was hoping to see. Dre and Snoop are good friends. On different Snoop Albums, and Dre albums, they sing ALOT together. I was watching on TV once that Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre sold an album together,in which they both made it. I have never seen it in real life, but on TV. Because once I tried to buy it, and I went to 7 different CD stores, but none of those I found this album. It must either be all sold out, or very rare. There are some things I have been wondering about snoop dogg and his changes. One is, this, and Tha Doggfather, his two oldest ones, he never said "FoShizzle" or "Fizzle" But from all of his new stuff, he says it alot. Was that a new line? I thought it was from the old snoop. I heard him say some thing like "Trizzey" but never foshizzle. huh. Another thing is, he sold a good two albums with Suge Knight's Death Row records. But in snoop's song Pimp Slapp'd, he all says bad stuff about Suge Knight and the record label. I do not get it. Well anyway, this is an awesome album. Awesome beats. But I think i need to shut up now. Bye the way, if you don't have this, then buy it now! This album really starts the perfect CD collection!! 10 out of 10! more awesome Snoop albums to come!~ Makaveli tha don
Free Music Review: Seriously The Best Album Hit: 5 Stars
I'm completely into gangsta rap, i listen to the late 80s early 90s music, i have heard all of 2pac's(my favorite rapper), snoop doggs, dre's albums and other rappers like the doc, ice cube, nwa, comptons most wanted and above the law, As good as they all are as 2pac being the best rapper of all time, he has never made an album that can really compete with Doggystyle, no one has, this album is a classic top to bottom and i can't imagine any real gangsta rap fan hatin it.
Doggystyle is way better than any of the new s**t, 50 cent, g-unit and those other wankstas can suck it cause they have no talent compared to snoop let alone comparing themselves to people like 2pac, biggie, rakim, run dmc or the D.O.C., they're ruining rap and because of them it may soon die out, you need to hear this album and see what you're missing out on.
Some people complain about how snoop has bad vocals, has no talent and aint no gangsta because we wears pigtails and calls himself snoop dogg, i believe that he i one of the best in history, making his debut at 18 on DR DRE'S album, now dre is the finest producer that rap has to offer, he could not have made a bad decision on what rapper he thought could have made it, thus the success of eminem, snoop and would have been the D.O.C. had it been for that car accident.
Back to the album, and apart from the first two skits or g-funk intro or whatever, the songs are great, classic enjoyable, from gin and juice to pump pump, i rate them all 5 star because they all have great qualities, my favorite songs being Gin & Juice, Lodi Dodi, Murder Was The Case, Serial Killa and Ain't No Fun(best snoop song ever), they all show the best of the early 90s era and he could not be competed with.
No one can say that the beats suck because dr dre produced the whole album, enough said. If you think dre is a bad producer you need to lay off rap and listen to that rock s**t because you aint gonna find any better.
This album is a classic and should be appreciated by every rap fan out there, if you think there is anything wrong with it then maybe you dont like rap cause i cant believe anyone would say Doggystyle is a bad album.
Free Music Review: Back When Snoop Was One Of The Best West Coast Rappers (5 Stars) Hit: 5 Stars
Just about every legitamate review says, this is Snoop Dogg's best album and has yet to top this. Back in 1993/1994 Snoop Dogg was all about making party tracks with Dr. Dre and the Death Row Immates (RBX, Dogg Pound, Lady Of Rage, and Warren G.) Gangstafied tracks on drinking and smoking "Gin And Juice" couldn't have been a better 90's party track. "Ain't No Fun" and "Doggy Dogg World" Snoop Dogg gives listeners how he runs his well known game on the females (the latter would be lyrically less explicit). Some of my favorite tracks "Whats My Name" and "The Shiznit" are as lyrical as Snoop rides the beat perfectly (yes people, Snoop actually did have rhymes).
Guest appearances come off as the smooth West Coast style. "For My N***z and B*****s" and "Serial Killa" would have vocals from The Dogg Pound and RBX or Lady Of Rage, quite possibly no let down guest wise. Dr. Dre didn't go wrong with the production on this either.
Thankfully this is reissued for young listeners like me, because I was too young to buy this back in '93. This is the top notch Snoop Dogg that we've paid to hear. Since this CD raised the bar for him, he has since had an uphill climb trying to pull off another classic like this (I believe Paid The Coast to Be the Boss is as close as it would ever come). If you do not own a copy of this classic, you have no idea what you are missing.
Lyrics: A-
Production: A
Guest Appearances: A+
Overall: A
Favorite Tracks: Gin & Juice, Tha Shiznit, Murder Was The Case, Who Am I (Whats My Name), For My N***z and B*****s, Ain't No Fun, Doggy Dog World
Honorable Mention Track: Gz and Hustlas
If you have a 1993 copy, you'd notice that this reissue is condensed to 13 tracks by putting all the skits at the beginning of the songs (the origonal had 18 I think) not that it really matters. Also the song "G'z Up, H**s Down" was removed when it was reissued for some reason, I haven't heard that track yet.
Free Music Review: Perfection Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of the best, if not the best, Hip hop album of all time. Snoop Dogg is only 19 on here, Produced by Dr. Dre, and features Tha Dogg Pound, Dramatics, Lady of Rage. There are 13 songs and almost all of them are classics.
1. Intro 3/5- Decent snoop talks about he wants to leave the game.
2. Gfunk Intro-4/5 snoop only raps a little bit at the end but says a classic line. Beat is killer.
3. Gin and Juice 5/5- Instant classic. Snoop raps 3 verses and everything flows very well.
4. Tha Shiznit 5/5- Another Classic. Snoop raps quickly and nonstop. Very catchy.
5. Lodi Dodi 5/5- A story about snoop dogg and this girl wanting drugs. His voice is just amazing on this one.
6. Murder Was the Case 5/5- Probably the best song on here. Lyrics are very good and beat is kind of scary almost. Gives you an erie feeling.
7. Serial Killer 3/5- The first misstep on the album, but its still a 3/5!
8. Whats my Name 5/5- Classic song with dre beat. Cant get enough snoop on this one.
9. For all my niggaz + bitches 4/5- Refrain is kind of repetitive and snoop only has one verse, but its pretty catchy and the others more than make up for it.
10. Aint no fun 5/5- Ft. Nate Dogg. Nates refrain is smooth and the others add a lot to this song. Wish it had more snoop though.
11. DoggyDogg World 5/5- Ft. Dramatics. Another classic. not much more to say.
12. Gz and Hustlaz 5/5- Keyboard beat and the intro is kind of funny too. Snoop raps 3 verses, he cant be controlled.
13. Pump Pump 4/5- Refrain is kind of clever. I think malik is in this one. Snoop makes of for the mediocre stuff.
This album is a must have for anyone. If you dont like this album then you just must hate rap music, because every song will have you bobbing your head and snoop doggs dreamy drawl will have you hitting repeat. Great for partys. After this snoop falls off a little bit. On paar with All Eyez on Me, Ready to Die, and Chronic.
Free Music Review: Snoop's Best and a G Funk Classic Hit: 5 Stars
Doggystyle, The Chronic, and All Eyez on Me are probably the most popular west coast rap albums of all time. Are they the best? Not in my opinion. But nevertheless, I have to give them props. Why? They paved the way, set the precedent from which everyone else built off of. Were it not for Dr. Dre and Snoop, my favorite style of rap, G Funk, never would've caught fire. Doggystyle is the best of the most popular, I think, improving where Dre fell short. Here we have an instance of the student surpassing his teacher. Snoop's just a better rapper. Dre is hard and serious. Snoop is jovial, funny and smooth...as smooth as the outstanding funk samples. The music and rapping come together seamlessly.
My favorite song on Doggystyle is "G Funk Intro." It's the best intro of any album of any genre I've ever heard. The 2nd classic is "Who Am I?" Both sample portions of George Clinton's "Not Just Knee Deep" and yet the two songs sound quite different. Just a testament to Dre's production skills. The third classic is "Doggy Dog World," featuring Tha Dogg Pound and The Dramatics doing the croon hook. Besides these 3, Gin and Juice of course is great, but slightly overrated. Ain't No Fun is the apex of pimp anthems and Gz and Hustlas has a thunderous baseline that few songs can match. Each of these near classics, I'd rank 8/10. The quality finally drops. "Pump Pump" and "Serial Killa" land under this category. But still, I'd hardly call them bad . The only song I never listen to on this album is "La Di Da Di." Just never liked it.
It's tough to write a review about something this hyped. Especially since, all in all, it delivers. You can always write more when something's bad, or disappoints. Unfortunately for this review, fortunately for those who buy this, Doggystyle is just that good. Dre made g funk. Snoop was made FOR g funk. Together, they churned out an album that stands as one of the greats in any category in which it falls.
