Free Music Review: was I surprised? not really.

Well, it's been a long wait and to say that this album was "Worth the wait" would be an understatement and just wouldn't do this one justice. On "Sex, Love, and Rock and Roll", Social D deliver their first album of new material in eight years (!) and I would go so far to say that this is their strongest album to date.
First off, there is NO filler. The album may only be ten tracks long, but what is here in the 37 minute running time is serious, hard-pounding, rock that could only be done by Mike Ness and Co. In short, this album is about quality, not quanity and it is a rare thing to find an album with such playability. This one sounds just as good cranked up amongst your drunken buddies as it does when you're all alone, driving down the freeway. Every track is just as good as the one before and if all albums were this great, a skip button wouldn't be necessary.
There has been much said about the evolutionary growth of the band and the maturity of the lyrics and I'm certainly not going to argue with that. With tracks like "Don't Take Me For Granted" and the AMAZING "Footprints on My Ceiling" (love the inclusion of the B3 organ, by the way) Mike Ness shows once again, what it is that seperates him from all the pretenders. I've been over this before when reviewing some of his other works, but it's his authenticity and honesty that set him apart from the others. He IS the Hank Williams of this generation and "Sex, Love, and Rock and Roll" just hammers that point home even further. Seriously, this guy never fails to amaze me.
I try to shy away from the term "instant classic" (kind of an oxymoron, don't ya think?) but I will say that this one certainly has my vote for album of the year and as with all their previous efforts, I see myself spinning this one for years to come. If it's pop-punk you're looking for, well...go get something else, cause' you aint gonna find it here. If it's REAL music you want, that defies genres and even inspires your life, then you've found exactly what you're looking for. If you're not a Social D fan by now, congrats, you're about to become one. Simple as that...
