Free Music Review: Singing Nuns Rock!
Hit: 5 Stars

The reason I decided to purchase this DVD is because when I was a young girl in New Orleans, I played this album every night as I drifted off to sleep. Only the title song, "Dominique," hit the charts at #4, I believe, but every single song they recorded was divinely beautiful. The words, melodies, concepts, their wonderful voices - it was all like a dream.

I experienced some trepidation before playing it when it first arrived, though. I thought, are my memories of those beautiful songs more lyrical than they actually were, in reality? But from the moment the music began, it all came rushing back to me - many passages in French, which was astounding - and I play it all the time now. Even my daughter, Grace, is walking around the house singing little snippets of these lovely songs praising God. The Singing Nun is a joyful album and if you want your spirits to rise, put it on and you'll see what I mean!

Long live Belgium!

Free Music Review: Anthem for the 60's Nun Craze!
Hit: 5 Stars

Like another reviewer, I was a little kid when 'Dominique' first hit the radio, and like so many others I nagged my parents into buying the album for me (...). My sister and I played that one into dust, then bought another on cut-out, and another. The purity and beauty of the singing on this album is quite unique; I've never heard anything else quite like it. It is one of the few LP's I've kept over the years. I think every little girl who could, performed this at school recitals. (...)

Regardless of the tangents that Hollywood took us on, though, this album remains pure and whole. As another reviewer has noted, it is French at its most accessible and beautiful. I can easily date my love of French music to listening to this album as a child, and my sister loved it so much she got a degree in it! (...)

This album is timeless and unique, and will sound as beautiful in another forty years.

The Singing Nun has been charming people for years now.... I began enjoying her pure and angelic voice long ago when this recording first came out..And it still represents to me such enjoyable little songs written by the French nun herself who fashioned and sang them in a wonderful little folk-like style...She sang them to the chidren with whom she worked and cared for in her village convent...I'm certain that these children will never forget all the joy this gifted woman with her pure and simple voice provided for them..Now, as before, she brings back memories and MORE JOY for Me each time I listen to her refreshingly pure voice and her melodic and ditinctively FRENCH songs..

Free Music Review: This is Wonderful Music
Hit: 5 Stars

As a little girl, I listened to this album (vinyl -- original release)almost every day. I had no idea that it was famous, or the story of "Sister Smile", just that I loved the comforting beauty of the music. Being born in 1974, I don't recall much in the way of music that existed specifically for kids -- I listened to my parents' old 45's (Beatles and R&B) and Dave Brubeck. Anyway, this music was like that for me; soothing and uplifting, and innocent. I had NO idea that it is available on CD, and I am thrilled. I thought I was going to have to search through my parents' house to find it for my children -- you can never be exposed to a foreign language too early!

Free Music Review: Exquisite

Every now and then I will read a derogatory remark about "The Singing Nun" and her music. I wonder if those folks ever actually listened to this music?? These are such beautiful, lucid songs. I play them whenever I want a spiritual lift! I am looking forward to the biography of her life that is apparently in the works. I understand that it was apparently a tragedy; after she left the religious life, the government hounded her for back taxes, even though she had given all the $$ to her religious order at the time. Whatever happened to her, however, nothing can take away the beauty of her gift of music.
