Free Music Review: One of my favorites of all time
Hit: 5 Stars

Something Corporate is unlike all those other bands you're probably listening to right now. They've got a piano and even though it seems like that wouldn't "fit", it's awesome. At least to me, the fact that Something Corporate sounds "different" is refreshing. In a music industry dominated by bands that are easily grouped together and classified into genres, Something Corporate just won't lump in with a few counterparts. I've heard a lot of people call it emo, or punk, or what have you, but truthfully I don't really think it fits into any of those categories. I think their sound is really something you have to hear for yourself to be able to understand.

Of course there will be people who won't like Something Corporate, but I would have to say that "Leaving Through the Window" is one of my favorite CDs in my collection. I could listen to it every day without getting sick of it. No skipping tracks, every song is great...not to mention the singer has a really hot voice (LOL). Anyway, I would defnitely reccomend giving Something Corporate a try. If you haven't heard them before, you should try "Leaving Through the Window" first. It's more "pop"py than their second album, which (in my opinion) takes a while to grow on you. Just give them a listen. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Free Music Review: Unique Style and UNIQUE SOUND
Hit: 5 Stars

I purchased Something Corporate about a year ago because I thought this was going to be another punk-pop CD. That was not the case when I put the CD in, and listened to from beginning to end. "Leaving Through The Window" is a unique album mixed with piano ballads, pure punk, and strong emotional emo-type lyrics. "I Want to Save You" is the first track on the album. It's a great opener because when you listen to it, you automatically think, "WOW this song is Redunkulous!!" (Redunkulous means - Absolutely Ridiculous) Another strong track is " I Woke Up in A Car." This song makes me want to get into a car and take a long road trip in the summer months. "Cavanaugh Park" stands out also, because it is so different from the other songs. It's a straight piano ballad, but don't worry, the song isn't corny or cheesy. The song that stood out the most was "You're Gone." I happened to buy this CD right after I broke up with my ex-girlfriend, and this song isn't recommended if you're trying to get over someone, because it won't help at all. It'll only make you even more sad or depressed. But anyway, back to the album. Overall, this CD deserves to be bought, and it also deserves to be listened to. Something Corporate just released their sophomore album entitled, "North." I don't think it's as strong as "Leaving Through The Window," but it's still a great album, and I also recommend picking that up also.

"she wrote me a letter from san Diego
to qualify her luck
these flights connect through Arizona
but I think I'll stay stuck" - "I Woke Up in a Car."

Free Music Review: Intellipunk? Piano Rock? Pop Punk? Pop?
Hit: 5 Stars

What, exactly, are they? Well, truth be told, "Leaving Through the Window" is a CD coming from a band you just can't classify. No matter what genre you stick them under, they are still amazing and know how to play. And how to write. And how to look insanely gorgeous while doing those other two things, but that's beside the point. "Leaving Through the Window" is an album that some have even called a work of genius, especially considering how young all the band members were (and still are) when creating it. Now, below is my track-by-track review:

1. "I Want to Save You"- a nice opener, with a solid beat and sweet lyrics. Nothing too special, but not shabby. It also contains the line that inspired the title and almost theme. See if you can guess which it is.
2. "Punk Rock Princess"- I personally prefer the "Heroin" version of this song better, but it's a fun tribute to all those girls/guys you keep making excuses not to date, because you're too afraid.
3. "I Woke up in a Car"- This song is just awesome, really. A great song about being on the road, with really great guitar riffs.
4. "iF U C Jordan"- Get the capitalization technique there? A very cute anthem song about a high school bully, but don't you dare write-off the band because of this song. It's not one of their stronger tracks, believe me.
5. "The Astronaut"- Simply gorgeous, and there's not much else to say about it. Soothing music, inspiring vocals, thoughtful lyrics- it's all there.

6. "(Hurricane) The Formal Weather Pattern"- Josh rocks. I love Josh. He wrote this song. This sock...just plain rocks. You can not dislike this song. End of story.
7. "Cavanaugh Park"- Man, oh man. Is this song beautiful or what. No, it's beautiful. The piano, I think, really adds the greatest effect on this one out of all the songs on the CD.
8. "Fall"- Great rock sound, good lyrics. Josh really rules my world on this album, more than "North".
9. "Straw Dog"- A really well-crafted song about the double standards placed on teenagers in the modern day, this song could not ask for more. Songs like this one really show off a paradox about this band- their age is obvious, but they seem to be so much more mature than their years would have you believe.
10. "Good News"- This song truly is good news. I think it gets a lot less love than it deserves, but it's another one of those that makes you realize how much more than just a "punk rawk" band Something Corporate is.
11. "Drunk Girl"- A little bit more immature, but still a great song. Hilariously embarrassing lyrics that manage to be touching in a sense, nonetheless.
12. "Not What it Seems"- A somewhat depressing track that still manages to rock out a bit. However, this is a more forgettable song for me.
13. "You're Gone"- Have I mentioned I love Josh? I may love Andrew more, but Josh is way up there on the list.
14. "Globes and Maps"- Such a heartbreaking goodbye to love that is slipping away. A beautifully written, beautifully played song. However, it is sometimes hard to ignore the feeling that this is somewhat of an emulation of "Kosntantine" or "Walking By". Regardless, it's a lovely song.

Final words: "Leaving Through the Window" is a wonderful incorporation of piano and driving guitar sound. None of the songs are too hardcore and none of them fall into the danger of being too wussy. Something Corporate is truly a unique band (as one would not expect from their ironic name), and this album showcases their talents fantastically. They are no particular genre, but instead are just plain good music.

Free Music Review: I know I'm siding with the masses
Hit: 5 Stars

(...) It's a great alternative rock CD, and I must've listened to it a million times. Most of the album is wonderful, but "If U C Jordan," "Punk Rock Princess," and "Drunk Girl" are the epitome of generic pointless-lyrically pop-punk. It's a shame that those are the most popularly played and advertised songs.

But the other songs are amazing, especially "Hurricane," "I Want to Save You," "Fall," and "You're Gone." The piano riffs are something you don't hear everywhere, and they're a welcome departure from pounding drums and screaming guitars. I've been listening to this album ever since it came out, and I still haven't gotten tired of it.

Many people can't stand the lead singer's voice, but I think it just takes some getting used to. It's only then that you can fully appreciate the awesome lyrics and melodies. After a while, his voice gets to be so much a part of the music, it's amazing. Besides, his voice is definitely better than bands like... Yellowcard, Taking Back Sunday, Dashboard, Starting Line... I think you know what I mean.

It's worth every penny, and I strongly recommend it if you like artists such as Jimmy Eat World, Mae, and Ben Folds. You might like it if you like Dashboard Confessional, but I personally despise Dashboard so I couldn't say for sure (...)
