Free Music Notes for Somewhere In Time: Original Motion Picture SoundtrackFree Music Review: Enamored with Somewhere in Time Hit: 5 Stars
John Barry who had just loChances AreBid Time ReturnJust Like Heaven (Widescreen Edition)st his parents scored a magnificent piece that has moved my life. I have listened to the music in many settings. I even played the music at my own mother's funeral. She also had an uncanny love for this classical score. Although people who dislike the film seem to dismiss it as just a corny love story, for me, it was a turning point in my life. One of my friends who also loved the film mentioned the fact that "our friends" are the only people who can understand the nuances, and that the ones who do not understand will never be our true friends, for they do not share our same spirit. This film's romantic theme is certainly enhanced by the Grand Hotel, the actors, and its simplicity. Do not expect any spectacular time machines, but rather a change in lighting and endless scenes that mirror impressionistic paintings. Perhaps a trip to Mackinaw Island in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan might be in order for those on a honeymoon. Regardless, the music flows through the movie like another character and can be enjoyed at anytime. Love the music, and enjoy and give the film a fighting chance, if only to test the one you love.
Free Music Review: Haunting Hit: 5 Stars
In the Fall of 1980 my wife and I went to the theatre to see Somewhere in Time. I had no idea what the movie was about, but my wife was raving about it. This movie haunted me to the point where I went back and saw it another two times.
I also had no idea who Jane Seymour was or Christopher Reeves for that matter.
Just the idea of someone going back in time to find a true love was intirguing to me. It was also 1912 and the Hotel and the Island took on a personality of itself.
Everything about the movie was romantic. i still dont know if he gave the watch to her of if she gave it to him.
This movie in my mind is my favorite romance of all time.
This movie has the classic "Love at first sight" which, along with the method of time travel was a little hard to get by.
The key to this movie is to take it at face value and do not pick apart the flaws that it might have.
Jane Seymmour is perfect for the role and this is the performance of her life.
The ending will make you cry. You will not regret seeing this movie..
Free Music Review: The best score ever, for a motion picture Hit: 5 Stars
I consider this one of the best musical scores ever written for movies. The music is almost a part of that movie as is cinematography or costumes or acting. You cannot separate it from the movie. John Barry has written many great scores, and won the Oscar many times in the category. I was shocked that he was not even nominated for an Oscar this movie. It is a wonderful romantic story that is not only enhanced by the music but the score is an integral part of the story. With every piece of the score, I can remember the scene. I can visualize it, complete with the dialogue and how the music was used there. Rachmaninoff's rhapsody on a theme by Paganini is a perfect fit to the story, the setting and the mood of the movie. The main theme is beautiful. The music is powerful during the hypnosis scene, soft when old Elise returns to the hotel, when Richard sees the photograph, during Elise's impromptu monologue, always maintaining the mystical quality the movie has. It is a must have.
Free Music Review: Beautiful, Haunting Score To A Well-Written Romance. Hit: 5 Stars
The 1980 romance "Somewhere In Time" is a well-crafted and perfectly cast time travel romance that, sadly, didn't get the premiere it so richly deserved upon its release and as a result, went largely unseen. The score for this movie is every bit as magnificent, beautiful, haunting and timeless as the movie itself. John Barry, known for his scores of the James Bond movies up to "The Living Daylights," does a masterful job of composing a beautiful, haunting, magnificent and timeless music to this movie. Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour (a Bond Girl; she asked John Barry if he would write the music for this film and he agreed, when the director said he didn't know if they could afford to ask him because of their budget, as Ms. Seymour wanted Barry to write the music) nd Christopher Plummer star. "Beyond obsession, beyond time itself...he will find her."
Free Music Review: Still stands the test of time, and always will. Hit: 5 Stars
Simply put, this is some of most beautifully crafted music you will ever find. From the original "Somewhere In Time" theme, to the rendition of the Rhapsody, to the beautiful track "A Day Together," one can hardly feel unsatisfied by the emotion that pours out in this music. An even bigger treat is to actually watch the film and see how the pieces of music are so brilliantly married to their corresponding scenes. I was fortunate enough to pick up the Gold Masterdisc version of this years back. Unfortunately it's now out of print but I highly recommend to lovers of this soundtrack that you search for it on Ebay because the transfer and sound quality is magnificent. How powerful is this music? To me, it almost sounds at times that it came down from heaven itself. It's more than music. It's a journey into the soul.
