These songs seem to recall accurately life long ago when music was an important part of story telling and an extension of everyday life. It was an important element of expressing oneself; even more so than today, I think. This music strikes you in your soul and leaves a wistful feeling that makes you want more.

Because of this CD, I will probably also purchase a CD or two recorded by Iris Dement. It is my understanding that Emmy Rossum has no other recordings. I'll continue to look for any in the future. I had heard the song "Moonshiner" played live by a local Bluegrass band and am not a fan of this slower version on the CD. The version I am used to is much faster and belies the humor in the words. I felt the slow version did not do this piece the justice it deserved. That said, Allison Moorer's singing had nothing to do with my feeling about this song. Her voice is wonderful, just didn't like the tempo of this song. Otherwise, superb music!
