Free Music Notes for Primitive
Free Music Review: Probably the most commercial Soulfly album.

First of all, if you are new to Soulfly, this would be the album I would suggest to start with. It offers the most variety out of any of their first five albums, ranging from heavy rock to full-on heavy metal assault, as well as some of Max's ethnic music finding it's way in here and there.
This is my favorite Soulfly album, because this was the one I started with, and it has the best set of guest musicians/vocalists on it. Chino Moreno from Deftones sings on "Pain". Corey Taylor from Slipknot sings on "Jumpdaf##kup". Sean Lennon sings on "Son Song". Those are three of the best songs on the cd, which is very solid throughout. Tom Arraya from Slayer also makes an appearance. Very cool. I enjoy it when artists from different bands get together. It usually ends up being very fresh and exciting. Unless, of course, you're washed up, like many of the current "Super-groups" out there. For this album, it works very well.
Many people are Soulfly haters for no other reason than that Max Cavelera left Sepultura. I suggest giving Soulfly a fair chance, and I think you'll see that they are making quality music.
For me, this is the most fun Soulfly album and I always go "Back to the Primitive" when I am in the mood for this band. If you enjoy all the guests on this album, I'd get their self-titled debut next. It is the most like this one. If you really like the heavier side of Soulfly, "3", "Prophecy" and "Dark Ages" are all heavier albums, with "Dark Ages" being the best of the three, but there are fewer guests.
Soulfly is one of the premier heavy metal bands out there right now.
