Free Music Review: Very Underrated - An Excellent Album
Hit: 5 Stars

A lot of people jumped on the Soundgarden bandwagon when Superunknown came out, and it's those newcomers or casual fans that were disappointed with this one. Mainly they were disappointed because this album had a lot of hard-and-heavy songs ala Louder Than Love and Badmotorfinger. Most older Soundgarden fans recognize this album as the excellent hard rock album that it is. Another reviewer complained that the second half of the album is weak, but songs like "Never the Machine Forever" and "No Attention" have that classic thick, chunky Soundgarden sound, and "Tighter and Tighter" "Switch Opens" and "Overfloater" build on the kind of groove the band had going with Superunknown. "Unkind" is another rocker, kind of a mix between Superunknown and Badmotorfinger. The only complaint I can think of is that there are several slow, stoner rock songs, but they are all cool songs so no complaint from me!

Free Music Review: A real ROCK band
Hit: 4 Stars

The acid sound of Soundgarden , combined with heavyness and direct guitar riffs, along with the judgemental and almost intellectual words by Mr Cornell, equals = Down on the upside , last deliver from this Seattle band , end on an era, a great era, good music made in the 90s, maybe one of the best

Free Music Review: SOUNDGARDEN IS THE MASTER OF ALL CRAZY SKEEBYS
Hit: 5 Stars

Soundgarden last albums were all great, but I love this one almost as much as Superunknown. This album has some of their old hard heavy metalness to it, but also has songs with softer verses like Burden In My Hand. Pretty Noose, and Blow Up the Outside World, two hits, are on this as well. I would definitly recommend this to any Soundgarden, Audioslave, or any rock or metal fan. Chris Cornell has a very soulful voice with a nice roughness to it which makes him an ultimate rock singer.

Free Music Review: The end of grunge.
Hit: 4 Stars

I'm a huge fan of "Soundgarden", but I have to admit, this does take a few spins to get into, and it's also their only album that I often skip a few tracks on. Not to say anything here is bad, it's just not front to back flawless like some of their others. Of course besides those few weak points, "Down On The Upside" rocks like you would expect it to. It includes "Pretty Noose", "Blow Up The Outside World", and the excellent "Burden In My Hand". Other tracks that I love just as much would be the aggressive "No Attention", "Switch Opens", and the closer "Boot Camp". While some of their other albums were big parts punk, metal, and psychedelia, this one seems to be all of it together, and possibly the album they always wanted to make. Any real fan of the band should get this, whether as an import or used. Casual fans might just want to get "A-Sides".

Free Music Review: The End Of An Era
Hit: 5 Stars

Soundgarden was the best and brightest band to garner mainstream success in the 1990s. That's all there is to it. Normally, that might sound (coming from me) like I'm saying "The 90s music sucked and this is the best that the decade had to offer." and; in fact, that is exactly what I am saying. Rock music in the 90s was horendous but unlike saying "this is the best they had and it's barely passable", what I mean by my statement is that "because the 90s music was so bad, Soundgarden earned the crown unopposed.". Not that Soundgarden wouldn't be capable of claiming the throne with a plethora of competition but with only Alice In Chains being worthy of being mentioned in the same breath, Soundgarden edges AIC out of the top spot with no one else daring to try.

"Superunknown" was Soundgarden's crown jewel, in terms of popularity. It was a spectacular success in that it was not only a popular slab of rock gems, but it was also one hell of a good album. Coming off of such an outstanding achievement, "Down On The Upside" would be in for a challenge and the boys of Soundgarden proved that they were most certainly up to he challenge.

"Down On The Upside"; contrary to some of the reviews I've read here, is actually less radio-friendly than its predecessor and sometimes even more deeply rooted in 70s rock than ever before. Once again, every song stands tall on its own and delivers a different, yet equally orgasmic vibe. One thing that made Soundgarden so unique and likable was their tone. Not always harsh, not always relaxed but always worthy of your attention was Soundgarden's way on conveying every possible emotion with resounding excellence.

A lot of bands disband, only to return years later expecting a hero's welcome and receiving only a moderate nod. After seeing the crowd response to Audioslave and more specifically Chris Cornell, it's plain to see that many still hold a large place in their hearts for Soundgarden. They created memorable songs and left the world with an album that ensured that they left this world in grand fashion. A hero's welcome would most certainly be in order.
