Free Music Notes for SpiceFree Music Review: The Best of the Mid 90s Hit: 5 Stars
This album brings me back then when my sister who is now 14 going on 15 was in kindergarden and back then when Rossler, mike, joey, mike and joey, Bruce, Yugo, Junior, Petey Pablo McNabb, Jason, were listening to spice girls and we even used to buy the lolipops. those were the days. My favorite spice girl was baby spice because she is cute as hell. the thing about back then was when i said, damn posh is hott, people were making fun of me and saying, hahaha you like girls. and i said no i do i hate them. but back then i wasnt like rossler or mike, [...]. thats right they dropped at age 9. thats how i had the early jump off and all of you were making fun of me for something that you were gonna like in the future. i was like man i like posh damn she is soo sexy. and then rossler admitted he liked posh. but to the public he hated girls and he said he would beat up a girl in real life. and mike said he liked baby spice and we used to make fun of him. and he would be like noooo i dont. shut up. and then "Bogus" mikes brother would be like, "WTF are you listening to" he was like man yall some punk A$$ bustas. and he told me he was down with queensbridge and down with the hood and he said he used to hustle in the streets and he wanted to be in the rap game. but unfotunately Eminem beat him in a Freestyle battle. but now all of them backstabbed me. then all are Non virgins and im the only one whos a virgin. look what happened to the world. then they wonder why i went berserk and outta control. Ive learned a valuable lesson in life. "take control of them while they are young, when they are older, they will not obey you anymore." because i tried to help rossler. i tried to guide him and show him the truth and the leadership of me. but then i failed. someone took over and "Commander & Cheif" that man was Jason X. he then dethrone me and took over and changed rossler in his own image. and its all my fault. come to think of it, damn, what would have ever happend if i never ever merged with ETW and HCW? wouldnt i be a non virgin by then? wouldnt rossler be down with my crew? matter of fact. wouldnt feliks still be best friends with jason??? damn all because of that rossler, feliks, jason. all changed chose there own path. followed there way into the tunnel. wow all because of that one time in March of 2002. damn if i never tried to merge with etw rossler could have been a football fan like me. he could have been a hip hop head like me. rossler could have stayed a video game fanatic like me. but all because of that disatrose incident. and whats bad about that is i cant even try changing rossler or convincing him to get his head straight because he refuse to listen to me or see me as a leader. i was dethrone and the only person who has his future in hand is jason and his band. basically rosslers life is in jasons hands. he must decide what rossler will do. hey i guess its right what they say. you hang out with nerds you become a nerds, you hang out with crackheads you become a crackhead, you hang out with pot heads you become a pothead, you hang out with drunk F*cks you become a drunk F*ck. you hang out with smokers, you become a smoker and thats what happen to rossler. never could resist the temptations. its a sad sad world we live Music Review: You Gotta Get With The Spices Hit: 5 Stars
1996 was a year I remember as not a particularly great one culturally,at least from where I stood. There'd been too many self important years where it seemed that the backstory and historical credibility of a group or soloist mattered a lot more than the music itself. Right around the same time Ginger,Posh,Sporty,Baby and Scary Spice entered my life this group seemed caught up in the same situation. So many people caught up in modern rock really liked them a lot but never wanted to admit to it publically. The result is the exact same thing that happened to The Carpenters and ABBA before them: The Spice Girls got caught in the whole "pop is evil" syndrome that sometimes afflicts many artists. Either way I don't care who did or didn't write, produce or developed this group in the first place-all that mattered and still does to me is on a personal level how this helped me enjoy new music again,at least for awhile and on a related matter how high a quality the writing and the music is on this album.
Take away all the karate kicks, sloganeering and such away this is for all intents and purposes a late 90's pop/R&B/funk/disco album with a lot of sleek production elements, some very distinct and unique singing and a decidedly retro flavor. The album,in true pop music form begins in the best way possible with it's three biggest hits.At it's time "Wannabe" is the more commercial of the hits off this album and the only one that might actually qualify as bubblegum. Next is the song that hooked me-the shiny funk/disco stylings of "Say You'll Be There",complete with a great harmonica solo, phat synth bass line and one of the most complex constructed melodies I'd heard in a pop record in a long time. "2 Become One" and "Mama" are two more hit's,both equally well crafted especially with their actually mildly jazzy harmonies. Aside from the kicking, faced paced retro disco of "Who Do You Think You Are" this album is rounded out with some surprisingly streetwise and funky hip-hop/R&B grooves such as "Love Thing","Last Time Lover","Something Kinda Funny","If You Can't Dance" and especially "Naked",which is very slinkly and seductive.
Looking back on what these times seemed to forcefeed us as having "relevence" and "integrity" the music The Spice Girls made has definately withstood the test of time and I will say I don't find them a guilty pleasure at all. I will always adore this album. It's completely non self conscious and basks in a playful and honest atmosphere. These are all wonderful songs that have an excellent mix of live and electronic instruments, have a human sounding production and look to the many funk and disco hybrids of the late 70's and early 80's for it's primary musical inspiration, apparently someone involved hoping that this once neglected sound would sweep the pop charts at this point if the Spices were promoted properly and in that case they were a big success. So keeping this in mind listen, dance, sing along and enjoy the music exactly for what it is as opposed to how your directed by the culture surrounding you. Good quality music of all sorts such as this will have a better effect on people if they did that a little more.
Free Music Review: OMG Nostalgia<3 Hit: 5 Stars
I have owned this album since I was a 5 year old girl. You might say this review is mostly out of nostalgia. I have to confess though. Well...I'm 19 now and still love every song on this albumXD YES! I said it! I still love this album and the Spice Girls. When I was younger the Spice Girls were the thing man. Today they have Hannah Montana, Bieber fever, Jonas Brothers, and other mainstream artist, but in the 90's one group (besides the Backstreet Boys) had girls everywhere blasting their boom boxes and that was the Spice Girls.
Let me just say that their songs are the very definition of earworms. Once you here "Wannabe" it will never leave your head! I haven't listened to the song in years, but still know every single word of that song. This song if you ask me is their trademark song. If I remember correctly its their very first song (correct me if I'm wrong) and is one of them songs that will send even people that hated the Spice Girls into a fit of 90's nostalgia.
Then there's "Say You'll Be There". This is another ear worm of a song that you'll find yourselves unexpectingly singing to yourself. I remember it was one of my favorite songs too. Now that I'm older this song doesn't really sound as good to me as it did when I was little, but I still love singing along to it.
Now one of my favorites songs; 2 become 1. OMG I still love this song. Anyone who listens to this song will tell you that the heart of this song is the vocals of Baby Spice, AKA, Emma Bunton. She is hands down the best singer of all the girls, and is able to hit a high note like its nothing. The same can be said about the second to last song "Naked". All she does throughout the entire song is shout "NAKED"!! Yet it sounds awesome. That leads me to something else. "Love thing", "Last Time Lover", and "Naked" itself were songs which meanings went way over my head when I was little. The fact that the Spice Girls actually did a concert movie where they sang the song "Naked" literally naked didn't send any "this is awkward" grown up thoughts through my mind. Sigh...how innocent and naive I wasXD "Who Do You Think You Are" is another song that will dig through you ears and never leave once you hear it. I think out of all their songs it rivals Wannabe when it comes to catchiness. When I was little I always thought "If U Can't Dance" was sampling Montell Williams "This Is How We Do It". Then I discovered Digital Undergrounds "Humpty Hump" (fricking love this song) when I was 13, which I think the Spice Girls originally sampled thier beat from now.
I can't forget "Mama". Oh man I really can't forget "Mama". The song is basically them telling their moms how much they love them. I don't want to sound like a wimp, but when I was little this song made me cry. It made me think of my own mom and how much I love her. If anything were to happen to her I don't know what I would do.
The Spice Girls are a huge part of the 90's pop culture. Their music was great, fun, and addictive. Writing this review has really brought me down memory lane. If you'll excuse me I'm going to go listen to "Too Much". Bye-Bye and enjoy this album with your kids.
Free Music Review: I love this album! Hit: 5 Stars
It's been 7 years & this album is still being played in my CD player. When I was 9, I listened to this...it brings back alot of memories. The Spice Girls used to be so strong. Back in 1996-98 they basically ruled the music world. They were the best-selling group since the Beatles. That's a huge accomplishment. Back when they came out there was nothing else like them around. No Britney, no Nsync, no Backstreet Boys...it was new, fresh, fun, and it was awesome. Here are my reviews on the tracks featured on the Spice Girls debut album "Spice".01 - Wannabe (10/10) This is the song that started it all. Who hasn't heard it? It's got catchy lyrics, and it's alot of fun to dance to. A great song. 02 - Say You'll Be There (10/10) The 2nd single the girls released. A wonderful song about telling someone that in order to have you completely, they have to promise to stick around. 03 - 2 Become 1 (10/10) My favorite Spice Girls song ever...no wait, my favorite song ever. This song is so beautiful, and the lyrics are amazing. I could never get tired of it. This single sold 4 million copies worldwide alone. 04 - Love Thing (7/10) A fun song, but it's nothing very special. It does have catchy lyrics though, and the verses are really fun. 05 - Last Time Lover (10/10) One of my favorites on this CD. A very fun, upbeat song. It's got a more edgy, raw sound to it. Very creative. 06 - Mama (10/10) This song is for all the mothers out there. I know I dedicate it to mine. Beautiful lyrics. Just a nice, slow ballad. 07 - Who Do You Think You Are? (10/10) I love this song!! It's alot of fun & the girls always performed this song so well! Definetly a song to dance to! 08 - Something Kinda Funny (8/10) Very simple & kinda slow, but overall it's nice. Very creative lyrics, and the girls sound amazing on it. 09 - Naked (10/10) A very, very good song. Again, very creative lyrics. These girls can write! I love Geri's vocals on this one as well as Emma's. The verses are amazing! 10 - If U Can't Dance (9/10) A great song, but the verses can get kinda boring. Emma's verse which is the b-section is very fun though & she sounds really sexy in it. I loved it when they performed this song! So as you can see, overall the "Spice" album would probably be a 9/10 if not a 10/10. There's 10 songs, it's short, but it's an awesome album with great songs that have very creative & thoughtful lyrics. The vocals are great. This album has sold over 30 million copies worldwide, and that is a record. They are the reason pop music is around today. It's just sad that the genre was ruined with so many artists coming out imitating. This is the kind of pop music that I will always remember. The Spice Girls are a musical legend in their own right. They accomplished alot in 2 very short years & though it ended quickly, the fans will never forget. Don't miss out on this album if you don't have it already. It's a true delight & alot of fun!
Free Music Review: The Best Spice Girls CD Hit: 5 Stars
I was a huge Spice Girls fan back in 1996/1997/1998. Then Geri quit the group and I lost faith in them. Spiceworld is brilliant too, but their debut album has to be the best. Rundown:1. Wannabe Need I say much? EVERYONE knows this song. It was the girls first single, and a brill one at that. I'm sick of it now, but the chorus is very catchy. 5/5 2. Say You'll Be There I LOVE this live. It sounds so great. It was the Spice Girls' second single. I love Mel C's backings at the end, and Emma's first verse. The video is funny and overall the song is very cool. 5/5 3. 2 Become 1 The first ballad you encounter on the CD. It was the Christmas #1 in 1996, and it's sweet. Emma sounds excellent on this song, taking over the bridges. I like Mel B's catchy little thing on the end of the choruses, and the music at the end. Great. 5/5 4. Love Thing The first non single track you come across. This is a cute, catchy little song, where the girls tell their men "i don't want no pushing and shoving, don't wanna know about that love thing". Very singable. 5/5 5. Last Time Lover This is my favourite song on the album tied with "Naked". This is sexy, smooth and brill. Emma sounds AWESOME on the choruses, and Mel B does a great job on the verses. And Geri... sounds EXCELLENT. I LOVE THIS SONG, I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! Mama This song is the girls' fourth single. It's all about their mothers, and the girls' mums feature in the video. I don't really like this song much, it's too slow for me. But I like the end with the cool choir chorus. 4/5 7. Who Do You Think You Are Comic Relief single, which means it has extra credit for being for charity. This is dancy, bouncy and upbeat, a massive change from the guitars and balladness of the last track. It has a great video too. 5/5 8. Something Kinda Funny This song gets boring if you listen to it too much. It has cool music and great bridges from Emma. The performance live is brill (especially the performance in Live At Wembley with the dancers), and overall it's a great song. 5/5 9. Naked My favourite song tied with "Last Time Lover". This has creepy music and great vocals. Mel C and Victoria sound awesome on the chorus, and Emma sounds good too. I adore the live performance of this. I LOVE THIS SONG, I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! If U Can't Dance A great way to end the album. This song is upbeat and makes you want to dance. Mel B sounds great, and I love the music. 5/5 If you couldn't guess, Emma is my favourite Spice Girl. This album is brilliant. It's a shame the girls have given up on the Spice Girls, since they were a remarkable band. This CD is firmly lodged in my CD collection.
