Free Music Notes for SpiceFree Music Review: The girl-pop with seasoning Hit: 5 Stars
It's not hard to see why the Spice Girls were so successful with their debut SPICE. Still to this day I think it remains a classic in the realm of pop. The mega-hit "wannabe" was instantly catchy. I still find myself humming along to it sometimes. SPICE is still one of my favorite CDs ever. The Spice Girls were at the top of their game with this one. Mel B and Geri's sultry vocals, Emma's sweet-chirpy voice, Mel C's big-gritty squeals and Victoria's posh attitude were perfectly matched. There's no buts about it that this CD was aimed at pre-teen girls that wanted a sassy role model to look up to. But, it's accsesable to everyone. I didn't really fit into that category but I really enjoyed SPICE. Besides the mega hit "wannabe" other tracks that stand out are "say you'll be there", "2 become 1", "love thing", and others. Geri even did a little Spanish rap on "if you can't dance." That's another thing - the Spice Girls had personality. Each one unique and they blended well together. I think SPICE was a perfect blend of pop and R&B. It was sweet but not too sweet. Just the right `spice' with a little attitude. I became a fan with this CD and it's still one of those albums that you can still play again years later. How rare is that for a pop CD? If you had your inhibitions about this, drop it and pick SPICE up. It's one of those awesome pop CDs that you will want to play time and time again. I still whip it out occasionally and it doesn't sound dated. It's also a great reminder of great pop music. Sassy, up-beat, bubbly fun. SPICE has got it all.
Free Music Review: Spice is Nice Hit: 5 Stars
Back in the late 90's if you didn't own this cd, you just weren't hip. Now in 2003, you if you still have it, well, you just aren't. The five spices came to America to conquer and they did. From 1996-1998, the Spice Girls ruled the world, selling out concerts and racking up #1 albums and singles. Then, the spice wasn't right for, "Ginger," Geri Halliwell quit the band. This album will go down in history for being one the most sold albums by a female group ever, and it is a shame the spice isn't going strong. But, here is a more in depth look at the songs and what I rate them out of five stars.1.Wannabe - ***** -If you have not heard this song yet, you do not derserve to know what it is like. 2.Say You'll Be There - ***** - Great up tempo pop. 3.2 Become 1 - ***** - A winter ballad, it sold over 5 million copies worldwide. 4.Love Thing - **** - First of the fillers, hip hop song. 5.Last Time Lover - **** - Another filler, not much going on here, the same as before. 6.Mama - **** - Title says it all, ode to yo mama. Slow ballad. 7.Who Do You Think You Are? - ***** - Another fast pop song, like something Christina Aguilera or Britney would sing back in '99. 8.Something Kinda Funny - **** - Not much of a difference than tracks 4 & 5. 9.Naked - ***** - More of a seductive, dirty song. Slow. 10.If U Can't Dance - ***** - Easily one of the best tracks on the album.
Free Music Review: Wow Hit: 5 Stars
The Spice Girls have produced a brilliant album featuring the hit singles 'Wannabe,' 'Say You'll Be There,' '2 Become 1,' 'Mama,' and 'Who Do You Think You Are.' "Wannabe" is their first single and a bouncy Grrrl-Power song. The voices come together great on this track. "Say You'll Be There" is another grrl-power anthem, with sexy lines from Victoria and Geri to match. "2 Become 1" is definatley a safe sex ballad and is very slow and sexy. "Love Thing" is a bouncy, fun song and the teenyboppers'll love it. "Last Time Lover" is an x-rated song with deep sultry vocals from Mel B and a great rap by Geri. "Mama" is undoubtedly, the most thoughtful song o the album. It was obviously dedicated to their 'mums.' "Who Do You Think You Are" is a disco-era upbeat power song with multitudes of GIRL POWER! "Something Kinda Funny' was the Spice Girls' demo song, and goes to show how they got signed to Virgin. "Naked" is another x-rated sex song, with Mel B and Geri doing most vocals, Emma on the phone, Victoria backups, and Mel C screaming. "If U Can't Dance" is an upbeat hip-hop song with Mel B rapping and Geri rapping in Spanish. This song is my personal favorite on the album. Over all, this album is a great buy and you will love it to bits! :)
Free Music Review: This music defines my childhood Hit: 5 Stars
The first real cd I ever got was "Spice" by the Spice Girls. You don't ever forget your first cd because it's just the start of your whole music taste. Although I have rather different taste now (see my other reviews), this cd just holds strong memories for me. From "Wannabe" to "2 Become 1," all the way to "Mama" and other lesser known songs, this stuff never gets old. I can't find one bad track on this cd because it's all just amazing.
Sure, it's not original, but the sound is more innocent than most "girl power" bands of today. These 5 girls are better role models than the Pussycat Dolls and other decrepid artists who call themselves "true to themselves". There's a lot of trash that little kids get exposed to and I wish the Spice Girls cds would make a comeback. Perhaps then the younger set would grow up listening to quality pop music, better than the likes of Ashlee Simpson. Even if they don't know the true meaning of some of the lyrics(2 Become 1's meaning never became apparant until a few years ago; little kids don't pick up on that stuff), none of it's blatantly raunchy like the R&B and (C)Rap songs of 50 Cent, etc. Listening to the Spice Girls makes me feel like a kid again, giddy and alive. So definitely, this music is worth it, much more than what is on the whole seen today.
Free Music Review: The Legacy of Spice Hit: 5 Stars
With all the girl bands that are popping out in the scene from the Pussycat Dolls to Destiny's Child, no one could quite ever fill the shoes of the Spice Girls. The Spice Girls were different--they were a character--full of life, vibrant and most of all fun without all the gloss and pretense. They are naturally sexy, entertaining and appealing. The Spice Girls burst into the scene with 'Spice' a collection of 10 devilish pop ditties that's packed with punch and rhythm that's hard to resist.
All the songs from the album couldve been #1 if they were released. Aside from the 4 singles released, the original 'Hollaback Girl', 'Wannabe', the ultra-sexy groove of 'Say You'll Be There', the lush ballad '2 Become 1' and the double a-side 'Mama/Who Do You Think You Are', 'Love Thing' and 'Naked' couldve easily become hits--these songs were even released to radio (not commericially) in some parts of the world and became hits! 'If U Cant Dance' is floorfiller, while 'Something Kinda Funny' just oozes with sex appeal and good melody. After more than 10 years of release it goes to say that 'SPICE' still sounds fierce today as it was. I recommend this album to everyone -- the perfect soundtrack to youth and fun! 20 million people can't be wrong.
