Free Music Notes for Spider-Man: Music From And Inspired ByFree Music Review: Totally amazing! Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this CD two days after it was released, after much anticipation. The main reason I bought it was because of three of the songs, ("Hero" by Chad Kroeger and Josey Scott, "What We're All About" by Sum 41, and "Hate To Say I Told You So" by The Hives), but I fell in love with the rest of the album. The original cartoon theme is an excellent way to kick off the album, and the Aerosmith version is just as excellent a way to end it. I've loved "Hero" since the first time I heard it on one of the local alternative radio stations, 94.7 The Zone in Chicago, and the same goes for Sum 41 and The Hives. Black Lab's "Learn To Crawl" is just amazing, as is Bleu's "Somebody Else". The latter really describes a lot of my friends, and myself, in some ways. The Alien Ant Farm song, "Bug Bytes", was also excellent. I've heard Default before, and "Blind" was quite a change of pace from their single, "Wasting My Time". And, like everyone else, I was amazed that Corey Taylor of Slipknot could sing so beautifully! I'm used to him screaming into the mic, not crooning. Anyway, "Bother" is also a wonderful song. Greenwheel's "Shelter" is awesome, as is The Stroke's "When It Started". "Invisible Man" by Theory of a Dead Man is excellent. I don't really like Pete Yorn, but "Undercover" was pretty good. I was totally surprised to find Macy Gray on this album. I'm mostly into alternative, not rap or R&B, but it was a pretty good song, just the same. I probably liked it because Tom Morello did the mix, but you never know. "I-IV-V" by Injected also was an excellent song. Jerry Cantrell's "She Was My Girl" was great, and the two tracks from Danny Elfman, (who I think is one of the greatest film score composers of all time), were amazing! Then this brings me back to the them, done by Aerosmith, which, (as I said above), was awesome. I would recommend this album to just about anyone I know, (which I actually did the day after I bought it). It's that good of an album.
Free Music Review: Hard, pounding music makes for a fun ride... Hit: 5 Stars
Although many of the songs are heavier than what I would normally listen to, I do enjoy this cd. I have been a long-time fan of Spider-man (both the movie and the comic book character in general), but I will try to keep my bias to a minimum while writing. Anyway, like I said, many of these songs are very heavy, with loud guitars and rich, deep vocals. In fact, when you watch the movie, you don't really get the impression of the songs being so heavy. Still, whether you enjoy heavier, borderline metal music or not, this cd will definitely pump you up. The theme from the 1960s Spider-man cartoon starts off the cd, and it is a nice little treat. Aerosmith closes out the cd with their own version of the cartoon theme song. I must admit that I enjoyed the Ramones remake of that theme a little better (unfortunately it does not appear on this cd), but Aerosmith gives a valiant effort and still manages to do that classic song justice. The more symphonic music by Danny Elffman is brief, but enjoyable. His two songs are instrumental, and rather dark as well. They do maintain the pounding rhythm, however. Basically, you can just imagine Spidey swinging from building to building with every track. Peter Parker's (Spider-man's alter ego) teen angst/frustration/confusion meshes appropriately with most of the songs heavier, at times more angry tones. If you liked the movie, give the cd a try. It may take a little getting used to (it did for me), but you may open yourself up to some new music. And, if you don't like the cd after all, just go watch the movie to put yourself back into a good mood!
Free Music Review: Great CD, solid rock roster. Hit: 5 Stars
After reading some reviews from other people and reading that some people don't see how the music ties into the movie.. well i just had to write something. This is a solid CD. Good strong rock songs. Everyone's fav song Hero is very strong, very well written and put together. The meshing of vocals from Nickelback's Chad Kroeger and Saliva's Josey Scott is very pleasing to the ears. At first the rest of the soundtrack i guess you could say "blurred by". nothing caught my attention. it was just solid stuff. however after a couple listens, bands like Greenwheel (sounds like matchbox twenty's rob thomas is singing this song, but he isn't) and Corey Taylor's SINGING... from SLIPNOT. on ACOUSTICS. and he has a great voice. perfect song. The messages of the songs tie into the movie well, but doesn't get tiresome. It is very well done, and Danny Elfman's two pieces are captivating. Great Stuff. Very great stuff. I highly recommend this CD. And i recommend looking into the "smaller" band's music, like Greenwheel (CD coming out end of June), Black Lab, Pete Yorn, Injected, Jerry Cantrell. All good bands, all good songs. every songs got a high point. I know i sound redundant, but it's a good CD. it's made me go out trying to buy the CDs of every band on this album. (except maybe macy gray). haha
Free Music Review: Excellent Music to Accompany An Awesome Movie Hit: 5 Stars
The Spiderman soundtrack is stellar in the choice of artists who are talented and not to overcommercialized by "popular" music. Though one reason enough to buy thi cd is the first (Theme from Spiderman) song a classic old-school rendition of an old favorite. Sum-41 is a great band but they feel out of place on soundtrack. Track 4, Black Lab, is a mellow song with a very spiderman feel, the song called "Learn to Crawl". With other artists ranging from the Strokes, Alien Ant Farm, and Pete Yorn, the cd shows various ranges of emotion, that could have easily been another collection of popular artists singing songs released on other albums. The music from Danny Elfman is very deep and makes me wish i could see the movie tomorrow to see how Raimi and Elfman work. The kicker of this whole cd is the Areosmith rendition of the Theme from spiderman, without making it sound like they just added rock music. Of the 19!! tracks on the soundtrack, only one seems out of place on an incredibly well rounded and presented cd. And if you bought the holographic collector card edition you can pretend you're watching spiderman swing. Wohoo!!
Free Music Review: Impressed Hit: 5 Stars
I was at first unsure of picking this disc up before seeing the film, but I had to when I saw the cover. The variety of genres on this disc is amazing (instrumental, rock, ballads, tv theme, etc.) I couldn't help but chuckle at the first track which was the original cartoon theme to the Spider-man series I grew up on that first aired in the 60's. Chad Kroeger's "HerO" was awesome. And I was really impressed with Bleu's "Somebody Else", which captures the dichotomy of the Peter Parker/Spider-Man identities and sums it up very well. I was surprised at how good Macy Gray sounded (Not normally a fan of hers), and the Theme from Spider-Man done by Aerosmith was fun, and campy and seemed to capture the whole fun "popcorn" feel that I know I will get when I see the movie Friday (I already have my tickets) Wasn't too impressed with the Danny Elfman musical score tracks, but you can't like everything, can ya'?
