Free Music Review: Actually the best tribute album I've heard Period

I've heard a bunch of tributes and most are basically the original songs done as if it were a cover band in a bar, trying to be very true to the original (why not just listen to the original then, right?). Many cuts on this disc bring some nice changes that make the songs interesting. So here's my quick rundown of what really makes this disc work.
1. Detroit Rock City. The trick here is Doug Aldrich, who twists and turns the basic riffs in the song into some cool new stuff.
2. Love Gun. Here you've got Steve Lukather tearing up the whole thing with some very cool riffs, again taking the original and doing something with it.
3. Cold Gin. Another nice tune with strong leads from Robben Ford (who busts out some serious chops that you might not expect).
4. King of the Nightime World. Good, but not great.
5. I Want You. Here, Kip Winger and Paul Gilbert really do their own thing and it works at times and not at others. Paul really shreds too hard on the break. Overall good, but lots of credit for taking a chance.
6. Calling Dr. Love. Good solid redo.
7. God of Thunder. Bruce Kulick, who must have "covered" this tune a zillion times playing with KISS, gets a chance to do his own thing with it and it works out pretty well. Paige Hamilton on vocals does a meanass Gene.
8. Shout it Out Loud. I've never been a huge fan of this song and Lemmy doesn't help.
9. Parasite. Again, not one of my favorites and it didn't get better here.
10. Strutter. Love Phil Lewis on this tune. He totally nails the vocals, but it's still clearly Phil.
11. I Stole Your Love. I've always loved this song and I love Robin McAuley (so my cards are on the table now). This version absolutely smokes the original. I just re-listened to the original and it isn't even close. Robin is so hot on this song it's crazy. He really does the tune all out and with real originality.
If you like KISS, this is the tribute you should pick (plus the chick on the cover is so hot it's criminal!). Enjoy.
