Free Music Review: Spineshank's best by far...don't quickly dismiss as Nu Metal
Hit: 5 Stars

I recently read a really bad and unfair review on a certain website that would probably rather go unnamed, regardless of how much I love em I just highly disagree with the review written on this incredible album, and I think the guy just listened to the album through once and quickly dismissed it as Nu Metal which it is NOT by all means. Spineshank are still as heavy as ever, but they are getting more in touch with their melodic side, and true, some songs are more radio-friendly but boo-f*cking-hoo, just skip the song! Here's a little track by track review...

1. Violent Mood Swings (10/10) Great Way to start the album, very heavy, traditional Spineshank stuff with a very catchy chorus, which you will find it practically all the songs throughout and it IS a good thing, mind you.

2. Slavery (9/10) Another great, heavy, perfect mosh pit song, with good lyrics but they kinda seem a little too simple. There's actually some blast-beat type drumming going on in this one.

3. Smothered (10/10) First single, great catchy chorus, majority of the song is singing except for Jon screaming "SMOTHERED!!" at the end. Great stuff. Be sure to check out the video too!

4. Consumed (Obsessive-Compulsive) (10/10) One of my favorite songs on this album, just listen and you'll see why. Very reminiscent of older Spineshank (H.O.C.) not to mention another song that features some pretty sweet blast-beat-ish drumming in the middle.

5. Beginning of The End (8/10) I first heard this one on the Freddy VS. Jason soundtrack and wasn't too crazy about it, yet another pretty much all-singing song as awesome as Jon's voice is...and of course a very catchy chorus to top it off. They could have put a better song on that soundtrack, as this isn't a very fair representation of the band. Could be the next single. Not one of my favorites.

6. Forgotten (8/10) Another experimental, radio-friendly tune that could be the next single, who knows? This song may turn some heads of the old-school fans but of course it's good nonetheless. More on the melodic side. Great, but still not one of my favorites.

7. Self-Destructive Pattern (10+/10) This song, to me defines the whole album. It's just such a great, fast, heavy song, with a sweet catchy melodic chorus that you just cannot top. If I had to pick a favorite song off this album, it would most definitely be this one.

8. Tear Me Down (8/10) I don't really listen to this song that much, but it's still good. I dunno just check it out.

9. Stillborn (10/10) Another awesome defining moment of the album. Another track somewhat similar to H.O.C. and once again, a really sweet catchy chorus. This whole song is basically Jon doing his thing with that throat-mutilating scream of his. One of the heavier tracks, not to mention the great drumwork.

10. Falls Apart (9/10) Another song I don't listen to a whole lot but great nonetheless. Can't really say it's a filler....but I just often skip this one.

11. Fallback (10/10) Another song more on the experimental side, with some great guitar playing. Another melodic and catchy chorus haha but I personally couldn't get sick of that.

12. Dead To Me (10/10) Another really heavy song, great way to close the album, really intense and all around bad-a$$.

Do yourself a favor and just check this album out. If you're a hardcore Spineshank fan you should just love this cd to death. I know I do. Sure there are songs I usually skip, but this is definitely an album that delivers and will never fail to satisfy any fan of heavy music. If you're new to Spineshank I would highly recommend this or Height Of Callousness. But you may want to buy H.O.C. first...I don't know it varies I suppose. Nonetheless, this is definitely a cd you should check out before you dismiss these guys as just another Nu-Metal band.
