The carrer of Spriguns Of Tolgus started in 1971, when the married couple Mandy & Mike Morton started playing together in small locations in Cambridge. The became popular and made a poor demo tape, before recording their first LP in 1975. Later they would reform themselves Spriguns and take a more "rockish" approach to british folk. Before Spriguns would end as a backing band supporting Mandy in her future solo experiences.When this album was made it was still back to basics folk, very simple and very like early Steeleye Span meets Sandy Denny.
10 out of the 11 songs here are old Traditional tunes. The albums great force is it's power and that you can feel the musicians joy playing this music. Then it all gets perfect when you realise that all songs and tunes here are great, and they just keeps getting better and better. You cannot wear good songs out. And every time you hear the opening of the album, the first notes of Lambton Worm, you'll feel an inner joy.
