Free Music Notes for Spring Awakening (2006 Original Broadway Cast)Free Music Review: I Love Phoebe Strole's as Ilse! Hit: 5 Stars
I finally got this extraordinary soundtrack and I love it! The CD soundtrack is true to the play, with one exception. I saw "Spring Awakening" back in February and was blown away by the production and by the cast's incredible talent! That night I was also introduced to Phoebe Strole who played the part of Ilse. I will never forget how beautiful her voice was, especially on the song "Blue Wind". When I purchased the CD I was anticipating hearing Stole sing this beautiful song. And instead they used Lauren Pritchard's vocals for the soundtrack. Pritchard has a nice voice but I liked Strole's rendition better. I wish they would have put Strole's version as an alternate on this soundtrack recording. Other than that, this cast album is a must for your Broadway collection!
Free Music Review: Amazing Show - Amazing Soundtrack Hit: 5 Stars
The reviews say this show is the best thing since RENT. Others say is 'revolutionary'. That kind of hype usually is reserved for shows that need to be hyped because they stink. Finally, here is a show that lives up to the hype. I bought the soundtrack in anticipation of seeing the show in January. It is an absolutely amazing soundtrack. Its a beautiful show about growing up, struggling with parents, sexual urges and discovering yourself. The "B*&tch of Living" is the BEST musical theatre song in at least a decade. Then seeing it live instantly brought tears to my eyes. I love this show and strongly suggest you discover it for yourself. Key tracks - The B*tch of Living, I Believe & Totally F*ucked.
Buy the soundtrack - and see it live if you can.
Free Music Review: So happy for you, Duncan Hit: 5 Stars
My God, this music is beautiful! Thanks to the Tony Awards Show Sunday night I found out about this show and I have been immersed in the music ever since. I can recognize the beautiful harmonies of Duncan Sheik's music a mile away and I am so, so happy, Duncan, that the whole world will hear you now. I remember 12 years ago listening to your haunting "She Runs Away" cd and thinking, my god, how is it that this was coming written by a 28 year old? You have your finger on the deep, eternal aching inside us all, which fits so perfectly with "Spring Awakening." Do yourself a favor everyone, go check out his previous music, and congratulations Duncan. (No, this is not his mother)
Free Music Review: Wow!! Hit: 5 Stars
I have one word for this musical, wow. After seeing this musical in New York, at the Eugene O'Neil theatre, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I am 17 and I can't even believe this play was written so long ago. It connects so accurately with teenage passion and despair. I've only seen two other musicals in my life (Hairspray and White Christmas) and I only wish that more teenagers my age could be exposed to this musical. I know that teenagers have begun to have less appreciation for theater these days but if this musical were to be free I think it would ignite a new wave of theater appreciation among young audiences everywhere. Can you say Rent all over again?
Free Music Review: Powerful Stuff Hit: 5 Stars
I recently saw the show on Broadway and was more than impressed. This show flows with energy and is incredibly relevant. The original play, which this musical is based upon, was written a century ago and the story is just as fresh and biting as it was so long ago. It may sound cliche, but this truly is a RENT for this generation. The heavy topics of sexual discovery and its effects on the lives of both youth and adults is handled with a mature wisdom for such as youthful show. This CD really captures the wonderful talent of the young cast, allowing the casts' wonderful vocals and personality to reign. Buy the soundtrack but by all means see the show!
