Free Music Review: Surprisingly Moving and Original

I've heard so much buzz about Spring Awakening, so it was a little difficult to believe all the the rave reviews before I bought the album. All those reviews are right though! It should be a discordant mixture - a 19th century German setting and a pop-rock musical score, but Sheik pulled it off perfectly. Spring Awakening has a soundtrack that will hold both angst-ridden MTV watchers and hardened Broadway buffs enthralled. It is slightly reminiscent of previous musicals, such as Rent and Bare, but it has a spirit and vibrancy all its own. I strongly recommend this! Definitely a highlight of the last few years of Broadway cast recordings!Free Music Review: something I can relate to

I haven't seen the show. And unless it comes to California (again) or clips are released on youtube I never will.
But with out seeing the show the music has made a deep impact in my life. Even though I haven't gone through anything these teens have I can still relate to the song lyrics.
I love the rock and roll style of the show, if teens were to break out into song I don't think it would be a la Sound of Music or West Side Story. It would be in the tones found here.
There are a few songs I didn't care for (Purple Summer and Mirror Blue Night) but everything else has been on repeat on my iPod.
Free Music Review: One of my all time favorite musicals

Up until now, my favorite musicals have been Chorus Line, Jesus Christ Superstar and Hair. This is the best show I have seen -- hands down.
I was lucky enough to see the show twice on Broadway -- both times with John Gallegher, Jr. as Moritz. He was simply fantastic and is on this CD.
I really can't speak highly enough about it. My favorite songs: Bitch of Living and I don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind -- with the latter absolutely electrical to see in person with John Gallegher, Jr. and Lauren Pritchard.
And, as others have written, I can't stop thinking about it or playing it. Really great!
Free Music Review: The new face of musical theatre

This is a wonderful recording of this superb new musical. Its success will now change the face of musical theatre and hopefully end the era of jukebox and made-by-corporate committee film-to-musical shows. It is fresh, original and has a wonderful book, score and lyrics. Its direction is gimmick-free, crisp and tight.
While listening to the CD is no substitute for seeing the show, it stands beautifully on its own as an album of songs. I urge you to go out and see the show with its original cast. The replacement and tour casts that will follow will not be able to fully duplicate the magic of the original cast.

I saw the musical on Broadway in February. I love all musicals past and present. Each era seems to have there own musical that stands out, they speak for their generation. Two such musicals of the past were Hair and Rent. Spring Awakening though timeless in it's message, will be remembered as the musical of today's generation. Having seen the show the CD was something I had to get to enjoy and relive the experiences I felt while watching it performed on the stage. I also recommend it to everyone else because the music and lyrics are great. Checkout the Spring Awakening website and YouTube for a few samples.
