Free Music Notes for Spring Awakening (2006 Original Broadway Cast)Free Music Review: Awake and Sing! Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of those rare situations when we need to know what the book/lyric writer and the music writer had for breakfast the day they collaborated on this brilliant piece of work. The vocals are as frank and real as the lyrics themselves. The performances are exceptional as are the musicality and etherial vocal arrangements. This could have been just another sob story about teen angst, but this show expresses maturity and intelligence about the subjects and never talks down to the audience. Come Tony Time, this is the show to be reckoned with.
Free Music Review: Go get lost in... Hit: 5 Stars
I had the priviledge of seeing this show and I immediately ran to get the CD in hopes that I would be able to relive the beauty of every moment of this stunning show. The CD provided just what I needed and I am thrilled to finally see new and fresh work on Broadway. Pop musicians penning Broadway musicals don't have to produce trite pieces or ones that lack focus--we've been waiting for the right voice, and Duncan Sheik may be him.
It is rare that I am haunted by a piece of theatre anymore, and I'm grateful for Spring Awakening.
Free Music Review: Not your average showtunes Hit: 5 Stars
I purchased the soundtrack to Spring Awakening less than a week after seeing this Broadway show--I hadn't been able to stop thinking about it, which I took to be a sign that I needed to own this CD. I absolutely love it--the music is entirely unique for the Broadway stage, incredibly emotional, extremely relate-able, all the while entirely addictive and catchy. I've been listening to it on repeat ever since receiving it. Highly recommended to anyone who still remembers what it feels like to be a teenager and/or occasionally still feels like one.
Free Music Review: This is a MUST HAVE Hit: 5 Stars
I loved everything about this album! It is set in Germany in 1891 but the songs have modern lyrics and a modern style. The characters are teenagers dealing with the frustration of teenage life. The story covers social problems ranging from suicide, molestation, teenagers exploring and experimenting with their sexuality, teenage pregnancy, abortion, & homosexuality. It is a powerful, passionate, enlightening, and moving story. The ending is surprisingly inspiring. All of the songs are terrific but my favorite song is "Purple Summer".
Free Music Review: Not just a musical... Hit: 5 Stars
I saw the show performed in NYC and then decided to purchase the album because I liked what I heard. The CD is wonderful because not only is it the soundtrack to a musical, but some of the songs individually sound like indie/pop rock at it's best. Notable tracks on the album are 'Touch Me', 'The Bitch of Living', 'My Junk' and 'Left Behind'. If you appreciate musical theater and love rock music this is a tremendous album. If you're looking for a more a-typical musical soundtrack I would check out 'The Drowsy Chaperone'.
