Free Music Review: a new sound that appeals to all ages

My wife and I are avid theater lovers and fortunate enought to expericene many Broadway shows, including this one. Although the music is reflective of the latest rock sounds, the songs are melodic enough to appeal to our generation who grew up with Rogers and Hammerstein. We bought the CD after seeing the show, but the music and the amazing lyrics convey thoughts and dreams that cross all ages. One note of caution: Some of the more graphic language may not be suitable for young children.Free Music Review: This one makes my top 10 list for musicals!

Just got back from Broadway and thought it was one of the best shows I've seen in a while. Even after listening to the OBCR, the show proved to surprise me in a very good way. Energetic cast, great direction, wonderful rock score, and it transfers well from stage to CD.
It still doesn't surpass the brilliant Sweeney Todd, but if you liked RENT, you'll love Spring Awakening. It's one of those scores you can listen to almost every track as it's own single.

I am very much enjoying Spring Awakening. This musical seems very fresh as new, as the cast is appropriately aged for their parts - read young. While the music will definitely appeal to fans of Rent as many have already mentioned, Spring Awakening is definitely more melodic and less rock than Rent. The songs are very catchy, in a good way. The CD is one that you will want to listen to many time over. This album, although fairly specific to the show, has some of the most inventive, clever, poignant and lyrical, music you will find in the contemporary modern American musical theater. The actors, young, spirited and dynamic, give perfomances that will raise your blood pressure, tear your heart out and bring tears to your eyes. Yes it is refreshing, vibrant and very energetic but it is by no means breaking ground. Having characters sing their thought rather than the plot has been a employed in most conceptual musicals i.e. Company. Rock, true rock has been on Broadway successfully many times, Hair, Rent, The Me Nobody Knows, Runaways. I must admit the ego and vicious contempt the authors show for mainstream Broadway might cloud my judgement, but there is truly nothing new here!
