This recording first came out in 1998 in Europe, and it is the best of this work I know. A lively, swinging interpretation that does nevertheless not loose the dramatic character of the work. Fantastic, very precise choir, excellent soloists. Especially Nico van der Meel as Evangelist is absolutely wonderful if you like clear, very bright tenors; he sings the part with an unusual rhetoricity that is very convincing and appropriate. This recording is excellent value at an amazingly low price.
