Free Music Notes for 14 Shades of Grey (with Limited Edition Bonus DVD)Free Music Review: Best album since their 2nd album Dysfunction!! Hit: 5 Stars
1. Price to Play (5/5)- their first single for 14 Shades Of Grey very heavy, heaviest first single on their album since Mudshovel on Dysfunction I'm very happy with this song as every Staind fan should be.2. How About You (4/5)- this song is great also I think this song is hard just how Staind fans like it good job Aaron!! 3. So Far Away (5/5)- one of their mellow songs on this album and this is one of my favorite songs. Very good melody I can listen to this song over and over again. I would think that this will be their next single to hit all over the radio. 4. Yesterday (5/5)- this is by far my favorite song on the album!! This song is the most heaviest song on this album. 5. Fray (4/5)- another good song just like every track of this album believe me you will not be disappointed. 6- Zoe Jane (4/5)- this is probably my 2nd favorite song on this album! Why? Just listen to the lyrics? He put his whole heart into this song because it was about his new baby daughter. I rate this 4 out of 5 because I thought this song should've been done in acoustic it would've sound so much better with just acoustic. Can't wait to hear this song in acoustic!! 7- Fill Me Up (4/5)- Another heavy song I'm starting to dig the change in Aaron! He's no longer depressed it's good to hear his lyrics that's different that we never thought we would see out of him. 8- Layne (5/5)- Oh god this is again one of my favorite songs on this album just listen to the lyrics of this song. It's about Stanley Layne who was the lead singer of Alice In Chains R.I.P. Telling everybody that if it wasn't for Layne then he wouldn't be here today. This song got me tearing a little bit. 9. Falling Down (5/5)- another great heavy song on this album when I hear the lyrics it reminds me of myself years ago when I was dealing with problems. This song gives me memories for me. This song also sounds similar to Can't Believe from Break the Cycle. 10. Reality (4/5)- this is a good song probably for most people but this is one of the songs that I'm not too crazy about on this album. 11. Tonight (4/5)- very good song my only problem with this song is that Aaron sang the chorus too many times in this one which I'm always interested to hear more lyrics out of him. 12. Could It Be (5/5)- a lot of Staind fans are into this song and I can see why? This is a good melody song and that is why Staind is one of my favorite bands of all time. 13. Blow Away (4/5)- this is a very good and long song about over 6 minutes long I would never expect something like that out of Staind. That gave me a surprise which I love surprises and see something new. 14. Intro (5/5)- great way to end an amazing album for him to say thank you to everybody that made him bring his life together. That's all I have to say about this one. Overall excellent album!! Way better than Break The Cycle because I thought Break The Cycle was too soft for me. Even though Aaron Lewis's lyrics have changed on 14 Shades Of Grey it's still their heaviest album since Dysfunction.

I was waiting months for this CD to come out.. and it does not disappoint. This truly shows the evolution of Staind. First Let me say that if you only like Staind for the hard songs.. Then I would think twice about buying this CD. The only reason I say this is that there are not many hard songs like in the past. It is kind of mellow but still very good. The lyrics on this CD are great.., very deep, like on most other Staind CDs.I will run through the songs now.. Price To Play: 5/5: Great song.. one of the harder songs on the CD, a great opener. How About You: 5/5: this song is soo good. The chorus is sung impeccably. A good meaning to the song too, its kind of uplifting.. Which is odd from Staind. So Far Away: 4/5: A very nice song. I really like it, again, its kind of up lifting, but.. Truly touching. Yesterday: 5/5: Fast and very energetic, a great song all-together, the song is sung incredibly. Fray: 5+/5: My favorite song on the entire CD. It's absolutely flawless in my opinion. Great singing, and music. I love the meaning of the song as well. Zoe Jane: 4/5: I would imagine that this song is about Aaron's daughter.. That would make sense. A slow song.. but very good, very touching. Fill Me Up: 5/5: Has a hard intro and parts, but this song is truly amazing. The emotion pours from this song, it weeps love. All I can say is exquisite. Layne: 2.5-3/5: Not a favorite of mine. I don't like the vocals or the music in the song.. It's not that great. Falling Down: 5/5: A harder song. Nice meaning to the whole thing. Good music itself with the vocals blending in good. I love the ending lines. They are very true.. Reality: 4/5: A Good song altogether. The only thing is it sounds kind of like some other songs on the CD, but its very good. Tonight: 4/5: Another good song, great music, and great vocals, a nice meaning behind the song too, its a nice listen. Could It Be: 5/5: A nice song about truth. It's really a good song, which captured a lot of emotion in it. It's very enjoyable. Blow Away: 5/5: A little depressing song, but none the less it's good. It has a calming effect to it, with out being boring. A nice into brings in the full force of the song. Intro: 4-5/5: Um... what can I say.. This is so very weird. If you are a Korn fan and have the CD issues, you will know the song Dead. Well, the in the beginning sound like that. And a bass instead of bagpipes. An eerie song, that. Just odd. Now, as for the DVD, it's a short one, about 45 Minutes, it basically shows that the band does backstage and in the tour bus/van. Some shots of them recoding, and brief concert footage. The audio is that good. It's worth watching once, maybe twice, but that's it. Well, those are my opinions, and well, I hope that if you do get the CD you like it, and that my opinion mattered.

In "Dysfunction" and "Break the Cycle", hope and happiness to Staind, especially Aaron Lewis (the lead singer) was like cuss words in Will Smith records: non-existent. The pain that marked Lewis' early life provided the inspiration and beauty as well as the pain and anger and hopelessness for Staind's first two records. I read advance reviews for "14 Shades of Grey" and was concerned. Since Break the Cycle, Lewis had had a child and his life had profoundly improved. I loved the first two albums. I am a lover of all music from 2Pac to James Taylor to Miles Davis, but Staind rates #1 in my mind because of raw emotion and pained beauty. "14..." would be an adjustment in the band's tone and mood, since Lewis' life had changed for the better. My question was: would a more positive-toned record have the same impact and deliver the same quality as the pervious two. The answer was a resounding yes. I can say that it does not match "Break..." or "Dysfunction" in musical achievement, but the margin between the old and new is closer than one would think. "Price to Pay" is the classic anger-filled, f**k the world song Staind fans have become accustomed to, but, taking a cue from the success of honest, heartfelt, almost soft songs like "It's Been Awhile" and "Epiphany," the strength of "14..." comes from "So Far Away" and "Zoe Jane." In the former, Lewis describes the satisfaction of finally being secure with one's self after 30 years of insecurity. If you listen to that song with your headphones on and your eyes closed, the tears will flow. They did for me, but more for the idea that I had accompanied Lewis through the first two albums, and his triumph over his personal demons brought about joy. It is a wonderful song, but even greater if you've passionately experienced the previous albums. "Zoe Jane" takes a different direction. Named after Lewis' newborn daughter, he speaks of his indescribable love for her, but at the same time is pained. He knows that she will experience the wretchedness of life like he did before. The song describes his love and his motivation for "preparing" Zoe for the challenges that lie in front of her. When interviewed about Eminem, Pharell said that his records were a long autobiography that the American public loved. While Staind hasn't reached the mainstream success that Slim Shady has, Staind's three albums are very much an autobiography of Aaron Lewis. They tell a disturbing, depressing story, but it contains an undeniable beauty that's like a Picasso painting or DiMaggio swinging a bat. And "14 Shades of Grey" is the next chapter in Lewis' journey to understanding.

Free Music Review: STAIND NEVER DISAPPOINTS! Hit: 5 Stars
Tormented had a few songs I liked. Dysfunction was a heavy/depressing album that you could play through and have the same feeling for. Very consistent. Break The Cycle was even more depressing, which was a good thing. If a person couldn't relate to every single song on BTC, then I'm not sure they have feelings. Amazing CD. And now we have 14 Shades of Grey, which I have had for about 5 days now and have been listening to nonstop. This CD, like the 2 before it, is just BRILLIANT. Again, like the previous 2, brings out certain emotions inside you. It's just beautiful music. Aaron has the best voice in rock today, by far. Nobody comes close. I'm going to put down my thoughts on each song, and none of that 10/10 garbage I see on here so much. They're all 10's, read on..Price To Play - First single I'm sure everyone has heard. This is a nice hard rock song that also has a great message. There's a price for everything you do in life. How About You - This song you can tell is not going to be heavy. It's basically about being yourself. So Far Away - By far, THE best song on the CD. It has a certain sound to it and the lyrics are brilliant. It is depressing in a happy upbeat kind of way. It could make me cry every time. I love it. This song should be the next single. Yesterday - Starts out a bit heavier. This song is about living for today. Great chorus. Fray - This song sort of reminds me of a BTC style song... I don't know why. It isn't very upbeat like some of the rest. Zoe Jane - Definitely the sofest song on the CD. Beautiful song about his daughter. Fill Me Up - Somewhat heavy love song. I like it. Layne - Song about Layne Stanley. Could be the next single. It's a very good song. Falling Down - This song has a certain catch to it. It's about being very high up in life, and having to come down. Nice message. Reality - This is one of my favorites. It's another dark song. I love the depressing ones. Tonight - Also one of my favorites. This one is rather sad too. Could It Be - This song starts off a bit different than your typical Staind song. Sort of has a happy tune to it. Very good song, though. Blow Away - Longest song on CD. Pretty dark song. It's very god, though. Intro - Nice name for the final song on CD. It's a nice finisher. Aaron's voice sounds a bit distant.. But it works. Good way to close the album. Dysfunction = Masterpiece. Break The Cycle = Masterpiece. 14 Shades of Grey = Masterpiece. I'm not suprised they pulled this off. Can't wait to see what's next from Staind. Thank you for another beautiful album.
