Alright it took me about a week or two to like this cd and after hearing it for a while i have began to really get into it. I know that staind has got lighter and will never be able to top break the cycle (one of the best rock records in my opion. I has more matures on this record like influences(alice in chains-Layne) and his daughter (zoe jane) altough they still have songs about Aaron's childhood like fray and yesterday. Free Music Review: Another Great Staind CD.... Hit: 5 Stars
Before I start...let me say I'm a 14 year old that doesnt think good charlotte is god and hate bands like the used.... blink 182, afi, etc. The only reasoning I'm saying this is because you people think that a review coming from me would be lame because i think the bands I mentioned above are God(just because of my age and the whole skater thing). Well they're not. Bands like Godsmack, AIC, STP, Pantera, Biohazard etc...are the bands that are good. Staind, like the rest is no different. I'm sick of people coming on here and bashing this album because it's "mellow" and staind's "selling out". Grow Up. I've been listening to Staind since the days of Dysfunction and they havnt gotten worse. Obviously Aarons gone though alot and it reflects in his music and the so called Staind fans can't take it. You may not like the change but you should at least try to respect it. This album just shows the softer side of staind. Now thats that's over with....about the album. Overall, it's amazing...the music only changed slighty but the lyrics are awesome. They're still the same old staind we used to know. The guitar riffs are still strong, Aarons singing still good. This CD is worth everything you pay for it. But if your still one of Stainds sell out fans and not sure if you wanna buy it or not...get some MP3's or something...you dont like it fine...but stop bashing Staind for trying to do something different then all these other bands out there are doing....everything out there sounds the same these days...we need something different...keep it up Staind. Also on another note....you people that come on here and bash it....I'd bet 10 bucks you havn't listend to the whole CD....just price to pay and a few others...not the actual whole thing....so if thats you and you said this cd's S**t then you have no right to.
Free Music Review: Great Album! Hit: 5 Stars
In Stainds new album "14 Shades of Grey", Staind has matured and found themselves more comfortable with their music. Yes, it is a small change from earlier albums, but it is a good change. Aaron Lewis's voice is too amazing to have a buch of tracks on an album full of anger and screaming. On the new record, Staind shows the agressive angry side with songs like "Yesterday", "Fray", and "Intro". These tracks are perfectly placed around more mellow songs like "So Far Away", "Zoe Jane", and "Layne". These hard and soft tracks mixed with other songs, such as "Price to Play", which throw in a spice of "Dysfunction" and "Break the Cycle" make a perfect album. There are even some not angry but not mellow songs that fit in perfectly such as "Fill Me Up" which has a great chours, "Could it Be" which has an excellent intro, and my personal favorite "Falling Down". The combination of these songs make "14 Shades of Grey" an outstanding record. Staind has shown that they can go anywhere they want with their music and make it great. Now don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan of Staind's really heavy stuff. The "Dysfunction" album turned me on to Staind and is still my favorite cd, but no longer will a listener put a Staind album in and expect every track to be angry or depressing. "14 Shades of Grey" is Staind at their best. All the songs are great for differnt reasons, and when put together they make a perfect album that I would recomend to anyone. Staind's music has always interested me. I can never wait to hear what's new, and what's new is always amazing. This new record "14 Shades of Grey" is a must buy. Great job with the new album Staind!
Free Music Review: A new side of Aaron Lewis & Co. Hit: 5 Stars
So just what was Staind frontman Aaron Lewis so angry and depressed about all this time? It doesn't matter. You see, being the singer for a multi-platinum rock band and having a new baby daughter tends to cheer anyone up. "14 Shades of Grey" is the antithesis of it's name. There is finally light at the end of the tunnel. Aside from the chugging first single 'Price To Play,' the album is full of mid-tempo, semi-power-ballads and extremely positive songwriting. Each song has a special and specific meaning, making this the most personal Staind album to date. 'Zoe Jane' is dedicated to Lewis' daughter, and although it is somewhat sappy, it is refreshing to see such passion and love put into Staind's songs. 'Layne' is a tribute to Alice In Chains frontman Layne Staley that intentionally cops the AIC style, and quite well. Other songs seem to be reflecting a coming-of-age: 'So Far Away' is the pinnacle of the album, with it's cathartic lyrics ("I can forgive, and I'm not ashamed to be the person that I am today"). The whole album is solid all the way through and completely refreshing, considering what is usually expected of Staind (angst, anger and depression) wasn't delivered this time around. Staind are a new band. They have been re-born, and some people might have a problem with that. However, if you open your mind to this album and just let it sink in, you will find it to one of the best rock albums released this year. The bonus DVD contained within makes this an exceptionally worthy pruchase. 'Homegrown' documents the band's life on the road and in the studio for the past 5 years or so. Not the cliche DVD-doc we come to expect with these packages, and comprised completely of home-video footage, the 45 minute DVD only lets you in closer to the band.
Free Music Review: Staind's finding its groove Hit: 5 Stars
This is the first review I've ever really done, but seeing as noone has reviewed this I figured I would give my .02. There's something about Staind that just makes me excited. To me they just keep making better and better songs and keep evolving into newer territory on each new album they put out. I have been a fan since their "Tormented" CD (their indy album) and I have since seen them go through "Dysfunction", "Break the Cycle" and now this masterpiece. The sound is noticeably different through each one. As you might have guessed, the sound on this album is much like "Break the Cycle". Long gone is the hardcore feel of the band. It's nice to see some of the old dropped tuned chugging riffs of the old days with choruses that light up your insides. Aaron Lewis has really gotten his voice perfected. He's found his nitch and so has the band. The musicianship is tight and some of the songs are nothing short of enlightening. There are some ballads like "Zoe Jane" which I absolutely love and a good example of the harder stuff is "Fill Me Up". The light hard mix shines on songs like "Tonight". Any rock fan will appreciate this 4th release by this popular rock band. 5 stars is the highest ranking you can give, but to me their sound just plain rocks... catchy hooks and melodic vocals get me every time and Staind more than serves their share. Beautiful music. Don't expect every song to sound like their first single "Price to Play"... although that's a sweet song too! This band is growing up and while their message may get old (the lyrics weren't always the most diversified), the way they deliver it is always exciting to my ears.
