Free Music Notes for 14 Shades of Grey (with Limited Edition Bonus DVD)Free Music Review: 14 Shades of Grey Hit: 5 Stars
I'd just like to start off by saying this is an excellent CD. I'm not just sticking up for Aaron and crew either. There's not a day that goes by that I don't enjoy this CD. Is it the same Aaron on Dsyfunction? No. Did Aaron sell out? No. People are criticizing this band for selling out because his lyrics are "happy" now. Heaven forbid the man actually be happy at least once in his life. Maybe everyones gotten so caught in what they want they don't look at the man behind the mike. Yes, I do understand there is quite the jump between Dysfunction and 14 Shades of Grey not only lyrically but the music has changed just a bit. Of course some people will be disapointed, you can't make everyone happy. I think Staind realized that when they made this CD and thought about what THEY wanted to do, not what everyone else wants. I don't mean to make this conversation one sided b/c believe me I do understand that such a change is kinda disapointing if you're expecting something and get something totally different. That being one of the reasons I think so many people dog this CD. Had they not had the name STAIND tied onto this CD, more people probably would of liked it. Do I support bands selling out? No. As I said before Staind didn't sell out they just tuned it down a bit. Do I despise metal? No. I love Slipknot so it's not like I like all things mellow and sweet. If you don't like this CD that's great and that's your business, but seriously don't dog out people for their opinions just b/c you feel as if yours is higher up there. Great job Aaron keep up the good work.
Free Music Review: Very good album Hit: 5 Stars
With this album i think Staind has really found themselves. The music is very well done and the lyrics are amazing. Here's what i feel about each song:Price to Play 3.5/5 - Decent song but it doesnt really fit with the rest of the album How About You 4.5/5 - Took me awhile to get to like this song. But, it is a very good song. So Far Away 5/5 - AWESOME song. This should have been their first single off this album. Great beginning to this song and great lyrics. Yesterday 7/5 - My second favorite song on this album. This song is so well done. Great guitars, great vocals, great lyrics, great message all rolled into one song. Fray 100/5 - My favorite song on this album and quite possibly my favorite Staind song of all time. Awesome awesome lyrics and amazing music. This is an extremely good song. I cant say enough about this song. Zoe Jane 5/5 - Very emotional song dedicated to Aaron's daughter. Good lyrics. Fill Me Up 4/5 - I like the lyrics and the music to this song, but i dont really like the way the vocals are done. Still a good song though. Layne 2/5 - This is the only bad song on this cd. Falling Down 4/5 - Pretty good song. Doesnt really live up to the rest of the album, but still a good song. Reality 5/5 - This is another [good] song. Tonight 5/5 - Follows in the footsteps of Reality. Could It Be 4.5/5 - Good song, like it alot, but not as much as Fray or Yesterday. Blow Away 10/5 - Amazing song. I love the lyrics and the music on this song. Intro 4/5 - Interesting little thing to end the album.
Free Music Review: amazing songwriting and music Hit: 5 Stars
First of all i want to say im not some 12 year old kid that thinks linkin park and POD are metal. Im 17 and listen to everything from Pantera and Slayer to Shadows Fall and Soilwork to Staind and Sevendust. I know that this album is not as heavy as their other albums. I bought this album because I know that Aaron Lewis has an amazing voice and great songwriting abilities. I dont judge bands by their heavyness, i judge them by their songwriting abilities and musicianship and staind exceeds my expectations on this album. I like every song on this album but some more than others. "Price To Play" is a good song but it shouldnt have been a single as many people have said. Many people say that "How About You" is the best song and i disagree but it is decent. "So Far Away" is my second favorite song on the album and the one that made me pick up Staind's new release. "Fray" is another one where the great songwriting shows and Aaron's voice stands out. Track 6 is "Zoe Jane" and is my favorite song on the album. It's tied as the most emotional song on the album along side "Layne", which is another favorite. In conclusion, i just want to say stop labeling Staind as sell-outs and bashing them because theyve gone soft. If you want heavy music go listen to Pantera or Slayer. Also if you listen to Linkin Park or POD or Trust Company, dont post anything about Staind because the band has more talent than all three of them put together times 10. This album is great and if you appreciate "music" pick it up.
Free Music Review: Best....Staind CD...Ever Hit: 5 Stars
I love this album. On Dysfunction, Staind had a raw heavy energy that meant a lot of the songs were filled with yelling and screaming. Good stuff, but somehow it didn't feel right. Break the Cycle was an improvement, a mixture of great heavy yet melodoc songs and out and out ballads. This album just improves on that, with a few lighter, happier songs that give some variety. 1-Price to Play-Great song, typical Staind, melodic yet heavy and angsty 10/10 2-How About You-Even better song, great vocals and lyrics, lighter music 10/10 3-So Far Away-Another great song, softer and slower with an acoustic backing (until the chorus) and great vocals. A song about finding happiness 9/10 4-Yesterday-Again, this is typical Staind, heavy, melodic and angsty with great vocals and lyrics 10/10 5-Fray-Good song, heavier and angstier than most on the album, similar to Suffer or Change 8/10 6-Zoe Jane-Beautiful, slow song dedicated to his daughter 9/10 7-Fill Me Up-Love song 8/10 8-Layne-I'm not a huge fan 5/10 9-Falling Down-Good song, fairly heavy at times and soft at others 9/10 10-Reality-GREAT SONG, great music, lyrics, vocals, the works 11/10 11-Tonight-Another great song, great vocals, mix of heavy and soft music 10/10 12-Could It Be-This song changes tone a bit, from seemingly downcast to fairly upbeat, but still good 8/10 13-Blow Away-Reasonable song-7.5/10 14-Intro-Thanks all the fans and everyone in his life, but not a song i like 5/10
Free Music Review: This is a GREAT album Hit: 5 Stars
At first I didnt like Staind, and when a friend let me listen to Break The Cycle, I was blown away because this album made me listen to the lyrics because Aaron wanted to say something and he did with Break The Cycle. 14 Shades of Grey is a softer side of Staind, I will admit that. Still the songs are good on this album, and the lyrics make you look at what he is saying and think. I cannot say this is the best Staind album since I didnt listen to dysfunction, but then since I have both Staind albums, it is great. 14 Shades of Grey is not for everyone, lets get that straight. 14 Shades of Grey only has one hard track 'Price to Play', and the rest of the songs are kind of slow, but they have hard chourses with hard drums and gultar rifts. If you like Staind, like myself, then this album is for you, but if like the likes of Slipknot, Mudvayne, Cannibal Corpse, Slayer, then this album is not for you. Some of the best songs on the album are: Price To Play, Yesterday, Zoe Jane, Falling Down, Reality, Tonight, Could it Be, Blown Away, and Intro; his thank you song to the people in Aarons life, and f*ck you to the jaded and the fake; Aarons own words, not mine. If you are someone who likes some hard rock, and a little soft side, then this album is for you, but it takes time to get into it, trust me I brought this album the second week it came out, and I still listen to it, but I still love it for what the album is and what it represents.
