Free Music Notes for 14 Shades of Grey (with Limited Edition Bonus DVD)Free Music Review: Very good change.... Hit: 5 Stars
This CD has a very different approach to it then the other cds. I think they have finally found what they should be doing...Here is a Track By Track...1.Price To Play - Hardest song on the cd, not a good song. 3/10 2.How About You - Best song on the cd (or at least my favorite) Better opener for the cd, really introduces you to the CD with the new style of music and singing.10/10 3.So Far Away - Single #2 ...Very good song, has a really upbeat but depressing rhythm. Will probably overplay soon though.9/10 4.Yesterday - This song kind of takes you back to the old style of music but with the new style of vocals which kind of take over the song.8/10 5.Fray - Slows things up and depresses you like the old days.8/10 6.Zoe Jane - Very Different for Staind to do. But great song.10/10 7.Fill Me Up - The only song i dont really like on the cd other than Price To Play.Corny Guitar Work.3/10 8.Layne - Decent song about the Layne Stanley.8/10 9.Falling Down - Song that reminds me of Break The Cycle, but its a good song. 9/10 10.Reality - Depressing again, good song to chill to. 8.5/10 11.Tonight - Great Opening Guitar Riff, GOOD song.9/10 12.Could It Be - Decent song. Great singing.7.5/10 13.Blow Away - Dont really like this one. But its ok.5/10 14.Intro - Very good closing out of the cd...cant wait till another cd. Good Job Staind.
Free Music Review: Staind returns :) Hit: 5 Stars
Well I was very surprised when I heard 'Price to Play' on the radio. Very good and heavy song, but something I didn't expect to be released as the first single since Staind had hit it big on such great songs as 'Outside', 'It's Been Awhile', and 'Fade'.One thing I noticed right off with this album is that Staind is mixing more and more melody with their songs. The soft parts are much more interesting to listen to. It makes the music much more interesting and not as repetitive. Staind hasn't lost their edge yet and can still slug it out, although those moments are slowly fading away. It is when those moments appear that it makes you smile and get lost in the distortion. Not too much but not too little, just right. I can't believe no one has really mentioned the song "Fill Me Up". The riff in this song is absolutely sick and it fits perfectly with the deep "soft" areas of this song. The lyrics are so great, you can tell they are about his wife ("You fill me up, you're in my veins / A look could take my breath away / And all these things, you give away / Sometimes I take for granted" and "It's just like poetry inside / To hear you breathing by my side / Like I'm in heaven and I've died / So glad you're with me for this ride") Good songs include: Price to Play, How About You, So Far Away, Fill Me Up, and Falling Down.
Free Music Review: Keep it up Staind Hit: 5 Stars
Listening to Dysfunction and now 14 shades, it is clear that Staind has come a long way. Many miss the head banging, neck breaking jams of Staind, but Staind has gotten a lot better musically and Aaron is a much better writer now. Why would a band stay the same, it would become redundant wouldn't it? Aaron Lewis is writing a lot better now and Mike's becoming a much better guitarist. Why would you waste your time just playing heavy riffs all the time and not experiment and create beautiful music and meaningful lyrics? All of you that do not like how Staind has evolved and do not appreciate the music, are really missing out on a lot. I used to be the type that wanted heavy metal all the time, but there came a time when that all stopped and I started appreciating the music and lyrics. Imagine if Staind kept playing heavy all the time, then you would find the same people saying "It's repitive, the same old Staind." By the way this album does have heavy songs, but this time around Staind focuses on showing off their true musical talents. Staind keep it up, you did a hell of a job with this album! Aaron Lewis I feel your pain, happiness, and sadness. So go to the store, trust me, you will not be disappointed. Try to get the Staind album that has the DVD "Homegrown." The DVD will show the band's past and present through home videos.
Free Music Review: They're back...better than ever!! Hit: 5 Stars
After i got this cd, i immediately thought it was better than the "Break the Cycle" and "Dysfunction", although each album has it's own qualities. They've increased the overall melody in each song making it sound easier to listen to and decreased the emotions, but there are still emotional feelings in some of the songs.I heard the single "Price To Play" on air in HMV, that was when i knew staind had something new to show us, so i got this cd. "Price To Play" is slightly heavy tune which displays a bit of break the cycle in my opinion. "How About You" is a much more melodic song and it's also THE VERY BEST ON THE CD(well, in my opinion), it's the best song i've ever heard with an amazing chorus, a pity it didn't come out as a single. All the other songs sound pretty similar, "Yesterday" would sound a bit like "How About You", except with the effects at the beginning making it sound different from other songs. "Zoe Jane", the most unique song on the album, it's also the sweetest and the softest. This song was dedicated to vocalist Aaron Lewis's daughter, it's a very moving song. The second half of the album contains a mixture of slightly heavy and love tunes(well, not really love as in i love you), which i thought was pretty kickass. So what are you waiting for? Go for it!
Free Music Review: for any shade Hit: 5 Stars
Well, many reviews have been written so far regarding this album. I bet that by now you all have a pretty good idea regarding the track list, and prehaps even the moods of the songs. But let me tell you, there are really no appropriate words to describe the quality and emotions that this album contains. Obviously I am a great fan of all the Staind music, but this album had made me realize how they truely evolved as a band. They have matured in this album, and for those of you who seek to dismiss the album imediatly as "the same old staind", you are grievly mistaken. The gentele sounds of "so far away" and "zoe jane", will make you feel as though you know these people and they are talking to you. The beautiful words reflected in every singe song, just paint a very vivid picture to those who listen to this album. There are meanings to these songs that hold much more to them than many artists bother to even put in their music today. There is so much dedication to this album, so much work was put in it, that you can feel it in every sound, and every word. In conclusion, my fellow listeners, grab a the new "14 Shades of Gray", and let this music affect you the way it will after you listen to it. If you had to buy three CDs this summer, put this one on the top of your list, it doesn't get any better than this.
