Free Music Review: Staind's getting better with each CD
Hit: 5 Stars

With "14 Shades," Staind continues to grow and evolve as a band. It's interesting that some reviews are criticizing the growth of a band they supposedly like. They're not getting more commercial, they're getting more mature. Of course they're not going to stray too far from songs like "It's Been Awhile," that's what made them a hit. But this is an honest, terrific band whose writing keeps getting better.

My personal favorites after a week's worth of listening are: 1. "Price to Play," a great radio rock song, with a message, unlike 99% of the other radio songs; "Zoe Jane," a beautiful song about Lewis' daughter, "Fray," "Blown Away," and "Layne," a great tribute to the frontman of the 90s most underrated band, Layne Staley of Alice in Chains. The song is even in a Alice style, which Staind pulls off well. People unfamiliar with AIC should definitely check them out. Songs like "Down in a Hole" and "Angry Chair" will give an idea of what older Staind fans, like myself at the old age of 25, were listening to ten years ago.

If you want to feel yourself evolve with one of the best bands of today, give "14 Shades of Grey" a try. It's the best disc of 2003 so far.

Free Music Review: Once Again, Staind delivers a Brilliant Album
Hit: 5 Stars

Staind is my favorite band for the very reasons that stand out in 14 Shades of Grey. Break the Cycle was my favorite album I've ever listened to. I could relate to almost all of the songs perfectly, which really enhanced the greatness of an already incredible album. Dysfunction, although not as relatable, gave some awesome heavy metal songs (a lot more than Break the Cycle)with teriffic catches. In 14 Shades of Grey, Staind seems to have done away with heavy metalsongs, such as Mudshovel, Can't Believe, and Spleen. This new album focuses more on emotion and mood in more mellow songs, but there are still a good amount of fast paced and loud songs (Price to Play, Yesterday.) This album, emotion-wise, tops its predecessor. My favorite on the album, Falling Down, I can relate to with EVERY WORD. If you are into serious and relatable songs with brilliantly composed melodic vocals, go buy this album right now, its everything you'd ever want from an album. However, if you are expecting another Dysfunction with heavy guitars and lots of adrenaline, then I'd suggest you look elsewhere. Overrall, I'd say that Break the Cycle was better, but 14 Shades of Grey is right up there with my favorite album ever, and has certainly earned it's place in my album Hall of Fame.

Free Music Review: This is Stainds best cd hands down!!!!!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Look i know your probaly all thinking whats this moron thinking?!?! Break the cycle was the best hello!!! But if u listen closley and look for clues in aaron's amazing voice, u can tell that this band has definetly matured for the better. For one Aaron Lewis is no longer Aaron Lewis; he's a whole different person! The expressions and metaphors he uses in his lyrics are just such a step up from all the depressing incidents in his life he always used to sing about. for example in track 3 "so far away" he says "this is my life, its not what it was before all these new feelings inside these are my dreams ive never lived before somebody shake me cuz i, i must be sleeping" and in "tonight" track 11 he says "I no longer relate to this world of hate thats forced upon my plate." Aaron is no longer the self-hating, gloomy, sad man he once was. Probaly, because of the recent birth of his baby daughter Zoe, his life has changed in a miraculus way. And it's not just Aaron's great change in his attitude its the bands music; it sounds so much better!!Mushoks guitar solos are mezmerizing, and old school and Jon never miss a beat. Trust me, even if u are a new fan of Staind now and have never bought any of their cds, buy 14 shades of grey. I promise you its worth every pennie.

Free Music Review: Staind sucessfully follows up Break the Cycle!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Since I consider "Break the Cycle" to be one of the best overall rock albums in the last 10 years or so, I'm afraid I was a little skeptical at the ability of Aaron and the boys to provide a follow that would be even close to the same caliber. But having listened to 14 Shades of Grey nearly constantly for the past several days, I've realized that I was wrong. These guys DO have the talent, energy and brilliance to pull it off. This album is going to be a masterpiece. In my humble opinion "Price to Play" was the wrong song to put out as the first single, since there are so many stronger pieces on this album. I'd have probably gone with "Fray" (My favorite so far). I look at this as a CD of realized potential. Staind know their strengths, and have used them to incredible benefit here on the treasure trove of heavy thought and lyrics blended with music which is always appropriate to the emotion or thought being expressed. "So far Away" "Reality" and "Blow Away" are other very strong standouts. But if you're a Staind fan, or even just a rock fan, take comfort that like with Break the Cycle Staind has come up with another album you can just pop in and let play start to finish. And THAT, is really saying something these days. Long live Staind.

Free Music Review: 14 Shades of Artwork
Hit: 5 Stars

What do you get when you mix Dysfunction, Tormented, Break The Cycle, Evolution, 4 talented artists, and a passion for music= 14 Shades of Grey.
Don't buy this thinking your getting the same anger on previous Staind albums. This album still displays Aarons powerful lyrics, love and passion for music. Aaron is not as hateful to the world, but don't say Staind is a bunch of sellouts in the crowd. This album has been an ongoing evolution to all the members of Staind. They have always produced strong mellow songs, such as Four Walls (Tormented) Excess Baggage (Dysfunction) It's been A While (Break The Cycle), and Outside. (Family Values)
So if your looking for a good solid album that your can drop in your deck, and let it play completely through without skipping a track 14 Shades of Grey definitely fits this category.
The entire album has an amazingly beautiful sound it. The drums, bass, and guitar, are very well done! For yet another album I will stand behind Staind. This album is exactly what I anticipated. I'm thankful Staind didn't let their fame get over their heads. Again they produced the music they wanted to produce. They've successfully put together a collection to satify my every mood. WELL DONE STAIND!!!
