Free Music Notes for DysfunctionFree Music Review: True Staind Hit: 5 Stars
I first discovered this band when "Outside" was a huge radio hit. I ran out and purchased this album. At first, I wasn't too impressed. I kept listening however and this is my favorite Staind CD (Staind is also my favorite band). Aaron Lewis's lyrics are obviously very personal, which is the appeal to the CD. You can feel the lyrics in your soul, even if you don't identify with them all.... "A Flat" is by far my favorite track on the album. Lewis sings about trying to prove himself to the rest of the world, yet no one will accept him. Other songs have Aaron singing about his horrid childhood, and the problems he used to have with hard drugs (he still smokes marijuanna). If you are considering buying a Staind album, start with this one. Tormented, their 1996 indie album is great, but much harder, it's obvious that this is their first CD and the band was not the polished package you see today. Tormented takes the listener on a suicidal journey that ends with a gunshot. Break the Cycle is much more commercialized, it is obvious that Aaron and the boys made the songs on the album to please the "Outside" loving public, but it's still decent, and there are a few songs on it that are remniscent of the emotion on Dysfunction. Dysfunction however is Staind at it's best, Aaron's lyrics are the most powerful on this CD. The rest of the band is awesome also, the music behind the voice is solid. If you purchase CD's for all around content, Dysfunction is a great one to try.
Free Music Review: Dysfunction: Pure Functionality Hit: 5 Stars
I have fairly recently become a steadfast fan of Staind. After hearing a number of tracks from '14 Shades', I decided that this band's other albums were worth purchasing. 'Dysfunction' is Stainds second album however it was this album that got them notice from the music community.
Staind's debut album was 'Tormented' released in 1997. This album I purchased on Ebay as Amazon seems to not sell this album no longer. (See my upcoming Private Review for the Tormented Album)
Dysfunction consists of 9 tracks with a 10th that is hidden called 'Excess Baggage'. It is this album that we get a glimpse of how good Staind as a band and as individuals will become. I enjoyed, actually loved this album. This is Staind letting their hair down and strumming out hard rock beats in Suffocate, Mudshovel and Crawl whilst an almost melodious soft vesper in Home and Excess Baggage. Aaron Lewis on vocals is brilliant. He carries emotion and intensity and tone throughout the song and his voice is just made for this style of music.
If I could I would give this album a 9/10 rating. The song Mudshovel and Me are great songs and really I can relate to many and most songs by Staind. The lyrics to the songs are borne from the band member's own life experiences and their view on the world today as it stands. I can see why Staind has become so popular and if you can get a copy of the Mudshovel video clip, watch and enjoy it.
Free Music Review: incredible Hit: 5 Stars
staind is the greatest band of all time. period. from the moment i first popped "tormented" into my cd player, i have been absolutely hooked. i know that, being a 17-year-old guy, i'm more apt to like your heavy metal genre, but this is something like you've never heard before. the lyrics show a different side to life- the dark one. aaron lewis (staind's lead singer) throws out the most beautiful lyrics, describing the impossibly pained. after buying "tormented" (of which i eventually bought 4 copies), i put it in my cd player as soon as i got home. i let it play all the way through, and i was honestly in tears by the end of it. when all was said and done, i waited and waited for a new album to be released, and they have not disappointed at all. this album has a slightly different sound to it than "tormented", but that does not in any way take away from its quality. it is a cd that you will find yourself listening to endlessly, and never tiring of. every bit as good as their first, staind's second album is a work of art. if you like rock, metal, grunge, or even poetry and expression, this is the album- and the band- for you. even if you are only curious, buy this cd. you can't go wrong. put it in, let it play through once, and i guarantee that nothing will ever sound the same again. this is the greatest band of all time, and if you give them a chance, you'll see why.
Free Music Review: Best Album I've Heard In My Life. Hit: 5 Stars
I know alot of people may stay clear and say these guys are just like Limp Bizkit but the truth is they are absolutely NOTHING like them. My friend told me to download Home and I immediately realized this is the best song I've heard in my life. I went and picked up the album not really knowing if it'd be all like Home but I knew this guys voice was amazing. Then I put it in the album that completely changed my mind about music.I was losing faith in music and hadn't really listened for years but was starting to get back into listening to rock like Godsmack. This album blew my mind right away from the amazing vocals and emotion by Aaron Lewis in Suffocate then I was right there with every track afterwards from the emotion to the hard riffs in the amazing tracks like Just Go, Me, Raw, Mudshovel, Home, Crawl. I am really in awe of this music that changed my whole opinion about what music should be. Total twists of emotions and pain while speaking to you and what you think inside. I have listened to this album everyday for a month or so (yeah seems crazy I know but seems fresh and new everytime.) I simply cannot put every song into words because this is the greatest music I have ever heard in my life and I really hope you guys who read this give it a chance. Even though Break The Cycle is coming out soon I really hope you pick this one up it will change your aspect on music.
Free Music Review: A Work Of Art Hit: 5 Stars
Staind's second outting is genius. I've been searching for their first indie cd (Tormented) for a while but I can't really find it newhere. Let me start off and say that Mike Mushok is one of the best if not the best nu-metal guitarists out there (maybe aside from Daron Malakian of System of a Down). Now their newest release, Break the Cycle is a little more commercial but still good. Aaron Lewis can get a little whiny and annoying but he has an excellent voice nonetheless. I am looking forward to their soon to be released "14 Shades of Grey". Back to Dysfunction. This CD is as heavy as you can get without venturing into death or speed metal. My favorite tracks are Raw, Mudshovel, and Crawl. Incidentally, these are the three heaviest. Despite being only 9 tracks this CD clocks in at just under an hour, with the hidden track spleen. I have no idea what happened in Aarons life except that he is one sad dude. Drumming and Basswork are your average nu-metal fare. Mike Mushok definetely steals this disc with his stellar riffage. With lyrics ranging from broken homes to degradation, the writing is fairly well done. Despite Fred Durst's awful band Limp Bizkit, he really does know how to sign good bands. Also Check out Durst Prodigies Puddle of Mudd and Taproot, who as of late have fallen out of favor with the frontman. Staind rocks f'in hard!
