Free Music Notes for DysfunctionFree Music Review: TIGHT! Hit: 5 Stars
This is such a sic CD! Aaron does not have an annoying whiney voice as i have read in some of the reviews. He is a very good singer. This is one of the best new metal/hard rock bands around. This CD is easily up there with SLIPKNOT for best CD of '99. The guitars are pounding, the bass is thumping, and the drums are brutal. I saw them live at FAMILY VALUES and they were the ones who made the concert worth the $35.00 ticket. Here are my individual ratings for each of the songs:1. Suffocate-5/5 Great opener to the CD. 2. Just Go- 4/5 Good follow up to Suffocate, was the first single of DYSFUNCTION. 3. Me- 3/5 Song really doesn't fit...too soft 4. Raw- 5/5 awesome song second hardest on the CD really gets you going after ME 5. Mudshovel- 5/5 Song that got them popular, but it still is a cool song, love the bass intro. 6. Home- 4/5 Good Song but again they get softer. 7. A Flat- 5/5 again good song to get the listener goin again. 8. Crawl- 6/5 BEST/HARDEST/MOST ENERGIZING song on the CD. the bridge in this song is awesome. 9. Spleen- 5/5 Great closer to the CD. Another hard song. THERE IS ALSO A HIDDEN SONG ABOUT EIGHT MINUTES AFTER THIS ONE IS OVER. Another thing if STAIND ever comes to your town, go see them live! They are SOOOOOOO kick a** in concert. You won't regret seeing them. BUY THIS!
Free Music Review: All songs show emotion, but "Mudshovel" doesn't NEED that. Hit: 5 Stars
As I stated above, this music has a lot of emotion in it. "Suffocate" is a 10/10 song, with a great emotional example. Even so, this is a very angry song in which Aaron Lewis DOES NOT sound like himself AT ALL. "Just Go" is an interesting song with an interesting sound. Most people think it's a big standout, but me, it's a 7/10 sounding song. The most emotional song, yet the worst song, which is a pretty good song, would definatly be "Me." By far the angriest song and the 2nd best is "Raw." As it's name states, it uses very RAW(LOL!)and powerful riffs. The 2 best songs are "Mudshovel" and "Home," which is why I think they put them next to eachother. "Mudshovel" is a very pop-sounding song(which is very unusual for Staind) and is very I mean VERY populer. "Home" is one of my favorites because it is a slower song(a break from all that anger) and I think it should be made into a single. "A Flat" has nothing very good-sounding whatsoever. "Crawl" is a great song which is a lot like "Raw," just a lot less angry. The last song is 20:01 which is very long. Even for Staind. "Spleen" is sort of like "A Flat", to the fact that it's not too good. It doesn't sound like it, but, THE END!!!
Free Music Review: Metal at it's best Hit: 5 Stars
1st of all, whow, this album is heavy, dark, painful, and definitely not your typical association with punk rock, aka L.B. This is heavy metal at it's best. This is what makes a person want to go back to being a metal head and forget all them nu metal acts. THe lyrics by Aron Lewis on Dysfunction is compelling, poetic, and hard to swallow while the guitar, bass, and drums are all excellent. Every single track is not just exceptional, but brilliant, each and everyone of them deservingly could have been made into singles. But of course, mud shovel, is the big radio hit, and deservedly should be so. Other definite stand out include raw, me, and spleen. Only tracks on dysfunciton that could be considered as ballads are me, just go, and home while the rest are just hard banging straight up metal that would make you want to bang your head after each listen. Again,no fillers on this one, although only with 9 tracks, the whole listening experience is just phenominal, I still haven't gotten tired of the CD at all. Therfore, Dysfunction is more than just a debut, it's one of the best metal CD of all time. I liked Break the cycle as well, but definitely Break was not as hard as this. Two different styles. And I prefer this one, much more head banging and much harder, something all metal heads would love.
Free Music Review: Get yer blenders out...this ROCKS Hit: 5 Stars
I'm laughing right now at the "korn-ripoff" reviews...so totally ignore those, please. The more I hear this cd, the more I like it. And YES, they are a FAR better, more talented band than Korn or Limp Bizkit for these reasons...better singer for sure, & the rest of the band is tight too. I first saw "Just Go" on MTV2 this past summer, & fell in luv. Then I heard "Mudshovel" on the radio & had to get it, & was not disappointed. It sounds like a blend of Alice in Chains, Pantera, Tool, & even a little Korn, so if you like those bands, then you'll most likely like this album. But they have their own sound too, so they're not a "clone" band. It's taken me a couple of months to get IN to this cd, but now I can hardly keep myself from wanting to hear it again & again. And if you listen past the cool sound of the band (which is what I tend to listen to first), the lyrics mean something too. Ok, so the lead singer doesn't have much self-esteem saying "And I hate myself", but maybe he doesn't now, hopefully? Along with the songs I heard before, #4 "Raw" is awesome & 1 of my favorites, & "Suffocate" really sets of the album well. Just a warning though...make sure you listen to it LOUD!!
Free Music Review: A new twist in the modern Rock era... Hit: 5 Stars
I had never even heard of this band until I heard Fred Durst had signed them. I figured what the heck, if Fred is down with it then it HAS to be good. Good? I don't think that word remotely describes this talented foursome from springfield Mass. Powerful and addictive, Staind well surpassed my expectations when I first heard this killer album. The Lyrics are emotional and raw, the music is driving and energetic. I don't know why everyone thinks they sound like Korn's first album cause I don't see much similarity in the music, although the same PASSION is shared by Jon and Aaron. An essential album to any modern rock fan, dysfunction is an excellent album with quite a bit of variety...from ME to SPLEEN to the "secret song" after it. I think Godsmack have best new rock group locked but they've already hit mainstream fame, which undoubtedly will happen for Staind within the coming year. If you get a chance, it is imperitive that you see them live. Their show which is not center around a bunch of stupid props is what hard rock is all about--the music and the fans. Their show blew away the sorry performance I saw by the deftones at Chicago stop of OZZFEST. I sure hope fred brings them aboard family values, cause right now Im kind of disappointed with the shotty line-up.
