Free Music Notes for The Illusion Of ProgressFree Music Review: 4.5 stars from Staind Hit: 4 Stars
It's been 3 years since Staind put out an album and they return with another 4.5 star album, probably my 3rd favorite of the 5 albums I own ("Break the Cycle" 5 stars and "Chapter V" 4.5 stars). The sound is like most of their albums, not as many of the slower tempo songs though. Of the 13 new songs onhere (there 3 live versions of older songs at the end of the cd), 1 I skip, 2 ar eok, the other 10 are good and mostly real good song. For fans of theirs I'd pick this one up.

Free Music Review: Still not exactly "Break the Cycle" Hit: 4 Stars
First of all: This album is GREAT, don't get me wrong.
I've been a Staind fan since Break the Cycle, and though I like every album they've ever made, I long for an album like Break the Cycle. Hopefully they will go a little harder on the next.
People that think their best album ever was Dysfunctional will not like this album, and I think that will cause a lot of "angry" reviews in here.
All this aside, the album is very good. Songs like Pardon Me, This is it, the way I am and the corner are currently my favorites. More will come I'm sure :)
Any staind fan will not be disappointed I think, but there will be a lot of people out there (me inclusive) that will look forward to a harder stile.
Free Music Review: Illusion of Progress - Chapter V.V? Hit: 4 Stars
There is clearly no mistaking this for anything other than Staind. It sounds like an extension of the last album so if you liked the last one, you'll probably like this one too. If you were looking for a new direction or a return to the old days, you won't find either here. To me, this vein of Staind is laid back and it flows so smoothly that I find it sort of entrancing, and oddly calming, yet still powerful. Don't get me wrong; it's not background music at all. And the vocals - I just love Aaron's voice! My only objection is the track "The Corner." It's a bit odd for me with the choral background vocals - almost has a gospel vibe or an American Idol finale.
Free Music Review: Not what I was expecting... Hit: 4 Stars
Originally, I heard this CD was going to be a return to Staind's original hard sound. Then, I heard it was going in more of a bluesy direction. After getting the album, it definitely not that hard and has a more pop rock sound. It's not totally poppy because of Aaron Lewis's amazing voice. Listen to Tangled Up (Track 9) and you'll understand what I'm talking about.
I'm a little disappointed that the CD is not harder, but I think the band members are just happier people and can't really pull out the anger they originally captured in song.
Very Good CD, but not a very hard one.
Free Music Review: Staind is BACK - almost! Hit: 4 Stars
I agree with other reviewers that Aaron Lewis is one of the best songwriters alive today. I loved the early Staind albums and thought they went too soft and too shallow with 15 Shadews of Gray. The singles on this album (eg; All I Want) are not my favorite and seems a bit of a sellout, but there are otherwise some amazing tracks on here (Tangled Up In you, Raining Again). There may never be another song like "It's Been Awhile" (Break the Cycle), but I am enjoying this album thoroughly.
