Free Music Review: The Ultimate Edition, Is it Worth it?

I was very excited to hear about SonyClassical releasing the Complete Score to Star Wars The Phantom Menace. Before I Give my Review Let me tell you about somethings I have heard. I have seen a few Web Site who claim this is not a "Complete" Score to the film. They go on to tell you that this is nothing, but a hatchet job on a wonderful score full of repeats and bad edits that distorts the beautiful score John Williams created and produced. The 1st release was composed of Material which were mainly suites/ Concert pieces. (like Duel of the Fates.) The rest were just partially of what was in the film, in its original form which was later edited down to fit the emotion of the film. Then they compare this release to the previous "Special Edition" Soundtracks which included every piece of score that was in the film including some that wasn't. As well as a Booklet that gives you info about the cue and which sceen its in and anything else like cut scenes and what ever. If this is what your expecting than I guess you shouldn't buy this Album. This Album is what it is, The Score that you hear in The film in its entirety cue for cue. If your expecting Bonus Tracks, yes there are 2 of them 1 is a piece that was composed for, but was never incorperated and the other is "The Duel of the Fates" that is basically the audio from the music video. I would say that The Ultimate Edition should have included all whats on the first and whats they have now and anything else that was made for the film, but if this is what they can release then I am happy. Thanks to a friend, I recieved a copy of the new CD Set and listened to it and from what I said above about the horrible edits, Loops of music and misplaced Cues. I found this to be an exageration. It seems many feel the need to complain since its not up to their expectations. Anyway, many films do repeat certain pieces, mostly themes which this Film is filled with. The sound quality is better than the 1st release and the packaging is nice. I do wish the 62 page booklet had info on the cues and tracks, but instead its mostly pictures. Thats one of my only disapointments. What I am also pleased with is that I now have the music that I heard in the film that I loved that wasn't on the original EP1 Soundtrack. In all We get about 72 minutes out of 124 minutes of music. Other than That. I find this Album worth the money since above all else it is totally John Williams and Star Wars. I know many people who would love to own this Album and would love to recieve this as a gift for a birthday or Christmas present. Which I have a few in mind for.
