Free Music Review: Why have I not heard of Stars before?
Hit: 5 Stars

In my quest to drag my music collection out of the 80's and into the latter half of this decade, Stars is one of the bands I've recently got my hands on. I bought Heart, Do You Trust Your Friends?, Set Yourself on Fire and In Our Bedroom After the War in one fell swoop.

With no preconceived ideas of "what they should sound like", "what they used to sound like", or how long-time fans judge album x versus album y, "In Our Bedroom..." rises to the top for me.

Stars flirt with electronic pop a tad more than lovers of the garden variety four piece indie bands will feel comfortable with, but beautifully blend their sometimes dark, sometimes conversational, lyrics with bright sounds ... violins, synths and very catchy indie hooks.

Perhaps the final dollop of freshness this album offers me over others in my collection is the use of two lead singers, Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan. The dialog between Campbell and Millan in "Personal" for example is sad yet brilliantly put together.

If you're thinking of a Stars starting point, "In Our Bedroom After the War" is bit different and very addictive.

Free Music Review: Best of 2007, building up on Set Yourself On Fire
Hit: 5 Stars

Stars was a band that I loved at first listen. It was pure coincidence: they were opening for Death Cab For Cutie in Orlando and only later did I learn that they were a spinoff of Broken Social Scene (one of my favorite bands today).

With "In Our Bedroom After the War" they build up on the brilliance of "Set Yourself on Fire," delivering a solid album that keeps you engaged with the smooth vocals where male and female almost play with each other, alongside with the fantastic arrangements that depart from what you may be more used to listening these days.

There is practically no weak moments in the entire album, making it easily one of the best ones to be published in 2007. Also highly recommendable is their 2008 EP, "Sad Robots."

Free Music Review: A wonderful album.
Hit: 5 Stars

i own all of Star's albums, including Sad Robots EP. This is one of my favourite albums by them. Amy Millan's breathy voice enchants the mind in My Favourite Book. Torquil's dramatic voice in Meet Me at The Barricade is exciting and exihiliarating. Personal shows the charm of Amy and Torquil in this sad and haunting song. In Our Bedroom After the War is my favourite song on this album. Its full of promise and suprise.
This Montreal chamber pop band shows that albums don't have to have the sophomore or junior slump. They continue to create great albums every time the hit the recording studio. Overall this album is catchy, yet dark and haunting. Each song tells a story whether it be heartbreak, a veterans ghost or celebrating that a war is over, this album won't disappoint. Its well worth the money.

Free Music Review: Top notch!
Hit: 5 Stars

The stars lyrical quality is hypnotic. If you are a fan, this album does not disappoint, although the continuity between songs isn't quite as consistent as previous albums. If you are new to them then start with the earlier albums to get a better sense of where their electro-pop influences have come from. Great lyrics and narrative basis to the songs. Easy on the ears!

Hit: 5 Stars

i've been a fan of this band since i heard of them from a friend. their melodic voices and intelligent lyrics from their previous albums have always been my weakness, but this album ascended my love for them to all new heights. the album has a soundtrack feel, and as you listen to it all the way through, the characters are brought to life by the music.
